Yodasnews:
How did you manage to get hooked up with Lucasfilm and get approval for
this project? Did it involve signing your souls over to George?
SENREICH: Lucasfilm had liked a few of our previous "Star Wars"
sketches and it led to us having a casual meeting with them that turned
business very quickly. Our souls now exist in the "Star Wars" universe and
it's awesome.
GREEN: I not only had to sign away my first born, but had to give
George my soul in a metal briefcase. From what I understand, it's in a
storage facility somewhere in SanFrancisco. I didn't even negotiate
visitation.
Yodasnews:
Did they impose
very specific limits on what you could do with the characters, or were
they liberal?
SENREICH: It was pretty much free reign. We wrote our hearts out and
they had only four notes. It was a creative environment to play in..
GREEN: I think both fans of Star Wars & Robot Chicken, as well as
people who've never seen either will be entertained. It's a lot of very
silly sketches and jokes.
Yodasnews:
So, is everyone on
the Robot Chicken writing crew a Star Wars fan, or was this more of a
special project for one or two of you?
SENREICH: No, it's pretty much everyone that's geeking out.
GREEN: Every person in the cast and crew seemed to have a "Wow-I'm
really doing this" kind of moment.
Yodasnews:
Will the special
parody events be from the films, or will the script consist of entirely new
material?
SENREICH: Both. Can't say too much as it's still early..
GREEN: Sorry to be so top secret, but you'll have to tune in.
Yodasnews:
How much time is
involved in the production of this special, from the writing stage, to the
voice work, to the animation?
SENREICH: All in all, it took about 14 weeks. From writing to
completed episode.
Yodasnews:
I know you’ve had
Mark Hamill on the show in the past. Did you reach out to any of the
talent from the films to provide their voices for this historic Robot
Chicken event?
SENREICH: We had Ahmed Best come in and reprise his role in a classic
Jar Jar moment. Otherwise, we mostly used the "Robot Chicken"
interpretations of these characters like Seth MacFarlane as the Emperor.
Yodasnews:
We heard a rumor
that
there will be a Yodasnews.com poster in the backdrop in a future episode
of Robot Chicken, any truth to that :)
GREEN: I have not heard that rumor.
Yodasnews:
What can we
expect in the future for Robot Chicken, or any other projects that you
guys might have going?
SENREICH: We're currently writing our third season of "Robot Chicken"
which is tentatively scheduled to debut in the Fall sometime.
GREEN: We have our hands in many things, all of which have yet to
be announced.
