Strictly for eyes only, Disney has devised a set of whimsical "backstage" posters
to promote awareness of 2009's Star Wars Weekends event
among employees, images not generally made available to
the public (such a shame!). We think we recognize the Ewoks
poster below from a SWW airport promo campaign a couple
years ago (see slideshow at bottom), but the others appear
all-new!

Star
Wars Action News Update!
In recent Hasbro Star Wars Q&As, Hasbro has stated
the collector base has depleated, and they postulate some
reasons for this, and say some things will change in the
Hasbro Star Wars line due to this. While we see as many
Yarna's on pegs as anyone else, we take some time this
week to really evaluate Hasbro's statements and debate
why this might be.
Also this week, we round up news of latest releases from
Gentle Giant and Sideshow, and talk about what new Star
Wars product is hitting pegs and shelves near you.
And finally we pay tribute to a Golden Star Wars actress
who is no longer with us. All this and more on this week's

Party
Like It's 1999: Celebrating Star Wars Celebration!
It's hard to believe, but it has been 10 years since
the first Star Wars Celebration, held on April 30 through
May 2 in 1999 in Denver, Colorado. The reason for this
first party was obvious -- the impending release of Star
Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. But in retrospect,
that first Celebration has come to embody more than a single
film's release.
It was the start of a resurgence of Star Wars fandom, a perfect storm
of passionate fans and burgeoning technology that allowed Star Wars
enthusiasts worldwide to connect and share in celebrating the saga.
Because it took place in 1999, during the Jurassic-era
of the Internet, the first Star Wars Celebration remains
the least documented of the official Lucasfilm conventions
(at least, as far as online coverage goes). Many fans were
still lugging around film cameras to events rather than
digital ones, and no one was podcasting or live-blogging
the festivities.
Rather than let the first Celebration be forgotten, StarWars.com
will be dedicating this week to coverage on this party:
from reprinted archival articles to newly discovered media
of the event.
So turn back the clock ten years and blast off to the
rain-soaked but fun-packed memories of the so-called "Star
Wars Woodstock" starting today on StarWars.com.
First appearing as a playable vehicle in the 2002 video
game Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the TX-130 Saber-class fighter
tank is the Republic’s ground version of the Delta-7
Aethersprite-class Jedi Starfighter. In fact, its first appearance
in the game was as Mace Windu’s transportation across
the sands of Geonosis. The vehicle proved popular enough
among gamers and fans that LucasArts brought the TX-130 back
into action for the highly-successful Star Wars: Battlefront
games, and it found further exposure in the Revenge of the
Sith novelization and Dark Horse Comics’ Star Wars:
Republic series.
Now, nearly seven years after its debut, the TX-130 has
entered the pantheon of Hasbro’s Star Wars toy universe
as one of the newest entries in the die-cast Titanium Series
vehicle line. In short, it is quite a dynamic entry in the
line, the reasons for which will become clear as we move
through today’s review.

Good Luck, Have Fun and BE SAFE in taking your pictures!
By most standards, I am considered something of a Star
Wars die-hard, and my record of franchise loyalty - including
home-made Jedi robes worn in high school, choreographed
light saber battles, full-scale cardboard stand-ups of
Boba Fett in the bedroom, and ownership of most every Star
Wars novel, comic book, and video game released up until
2004 - proudly affirms this reputation. Yet something about
the upcoming Star Trek reboot has really tickled my Wookie.
Although I never got into the original 1960s series -
I was more of a Buck Rogers in the 21st Century kind of
8-year-old - I did go through my own Trek phase. (Hey,
a kid could only watch The Empire Strikes Back so many
times before the VHS tape wore out.) To date, my longest-running
committed relationship has been with Seven of Nine from
the Voyager series, and I've seen The Next Generation enough
times to know that Deep Space 9 was no good. But as the
times changed, this paradigm of cheesy science fiction
lost its hold, and I realized that my heart was only big
enough for one galactic saga. (After all, playing with
plastic lightsabers is so much more fun than playing with
phasers ... and unlike Trekkies, Jedi Knights don't need
to use a holo-deck to get a date.)
Star Wars fans and skateboard art aficionados
can duel it out for three very cool hand-illustrated skateboard
decks donated by Lucasfilm Animation to benefit the Burbank
Arts Educational Foundation. The three decks, which are part
of a group of over 50 that have been donated by various artists
for the benefit, will be on display at the Burbank Fine Arts
Festival on April 25th & 26th.
Below are descriptions of each board being offered along
with links to their eBay auctions:
* Size: 8"x32" (standard skateboard size)
* Mediums: Sharpie markers & mixed mediums on North American Maple
skateboard deck, provided by CreateAskate.org.
This is a one of a kind collaboration between members of
the design crew of Lucasfilm Animation's smash hit Star Wars:
The Clone Wars animated series. The original artwork features
drawings of six popular characters: the cunning bounty hunter,
Cade Bane, brave clone trooper Captain Rex, Anakin's padawan
learner, Ahsoka Tano, Sith assassin, Asajj Ventress, Jedi
Master Yoda and the villainous commander of the droid army,
General Grievous. Artwork is signed by all the artists.

* Size: 8"x32" (standard skateboard

This one of a kind original painting by Clone
Wars supervising director Dave Filoni features characters
from the smash hit animated series seen on Cartoon Network.

of Republic gunships against the enemies of the Jedi amidst
stylized explosions. Artwork is signed by Dave Filoni.

This early prototype for the 1979 Dewback
toy became widely known to Star Wars fans who eagerly viewed
the first images of upcoming Star Wars action figure toys
shown on the 20-back action figure cards. Much of the information
about the Kenner Star Wars line available to kids at the
time was via Kenner's small catalogs and toy packaging
photography.
The Dewback creature, which is only seen briefly in a
couple of scenes in the original Star Wars: A New Hope,
enabled Kenner to introduce mid-range price point accessories
for the extremely popular Star Wars small action figure
line. This original prototype has distinctive features
missing from the production toy such as a notched belt
around the Dewback's waist, simulated pockets for the stormtrooper
rider's legs, the Dewback's distinctive eyebrow and puckered
lips, and sharper, elongated toes. In fact, every part
of this Dewback is completely different from the finished
product.
Here is another quick
update from www.bigbadtoystore.com about
another cool round of new preorders and more new arrivals.
NEW PREORDERS:
STAR
WARS CHESS SET - GENTLE GIANT - This chess board

FETT WITH HAN SOLO IN CARBONITE 7" STATUE -
This is one of the cooler statues we've seen in a
while - Boba Fett is flanked by two accompanying
Stormtroopers as he leads the way. Each figure stands
approximately 7" tall and is keyed into a themed
display base measuring 11" in diameter. Frozen
in suspended animation, Han Solo appears to levitate
above the base. Preorders

STAR
WARS LEGACY - DARTH TALON MINI BUST - Taken from
the best-selling Dark Horse Comics series, Star Wars:
Legacy, Darth Talon is cold, dispassionate, and unmerciful,
yet she held unshakable loyalty to the Dark Side.

covering her body head to toe - there are not too
many all-red figures that look hotter
than Darth Talon - $49.99

2009 marks the 10th anniversary of LEGO® Star
Wars sets, and to celebrate, Toys R Us is releasing an
exclusive new set consisting of the control room and repair
hangar from Admiral Ackbar's Rebel flagship, Home One!
Included in the set will be an A-wing fighter and six
mini-figures: Admiral Ackbar, Mon Calamari, Mon Mothma,
General Lando Calrissian, General Madine and A-wing Pilot.
Moving features also abound: On the command bridge, Admiral
Ackbar can move and rotate on his seat controlled by a
stick; in the hangar, the crane can lift out the engine
from the A-wing fighter, tools can be hidden in the floor
compartments, and the fighter can be moved and rotated
with a long stick. The A-wing fighter sports opening cockpit,
fold-up front landing gear, and opening rear doors that
access the engine and two flick missiles. Whew!
We asked the set's designer, Jens Kronvold Frederiksen,
a few questions about the exclusive Mon Calamari Star Cruiser...
As the days get longer we get less
and less darkness. At least that is the way the seasons work
on this side of the equator. At Sideshow Collectibles however
now is the type for darkness to rise up and collectors rejoice.

Last year, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was released
to reviews that ranged from glowing (Variety) to anything
but (Wired). It was those negative reviews that made the
game's developer glum.
According to the title's project lead Haden Blackman, "But
part of it...is that I'm watching this team that has worked
so hard on this game for two, almost three years. And they're
reading this stuff. And you're right; all the air gets
sucked out of the room. People were miserable for the whole
day. It's hard to keep them focused."
Two things: 1. Don't confuse hard work with good game
making. Everyone works hard. That's what it means to be
a professional. 2. This is the nature of the beast. You
work on something and put it out to be judged. It can be
judged by critics, and it can be judged by consumers. The
Force Unleashed was judged favorable enough by consumers,
it seems, racking up 5 million copies sold in North America
and Europe.
Some games critics love, but consumers hate. Other games
critics hate and consumers love. Chin up, Haden Blackman!
Remember critics don't play the bills. George Lucas does.

PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners jealous
about the Star Wars Clone Wars love other consoles have
gotten may soon be able to rest easy. Sources familiar
with the project have indicated that Australian-based Krome
Studios is hard at work on developing Star Wars The Clone
Wars: Republic Heroes, a third-person action title for
the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Details on the game is scarce, but we're told Republic
Heroes will feature a two-player cooperative mode, with
both "Jedi" and "Clone" story missions.
Players are said to play as Anakin Skywalker or Jedi Padawan
Ahsoka Tano in a Jedi mode, and (at the very least) bounty
hunter Cad Bane in the Clone missions. The game will have
a focus on melee combat, complete with upgrades that can
be purchased throughout the game. The ability to control
droids, such as the rolling Droideka, was also mentioned
by our tipster.
Krome Studios has experience with the Star Wars license,
having previously worked on the Wii/PlayStation Portable/PlayStation
2 ports of Star Wars: The Forced Unleashed. More recently,
the studio released Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Light Saber
Duels for the Wii. Their next-gen action game pedigree
includes Hellboy: Science of Evil for PS3 and Xbox 360
for Konami.
When contacted, a representative from Krome Studios told
us "We can’t comment on rumours and speculation." Request
for comment from LucasArts has yet to be returned.
PRINCESS Leia Organa came up against a force
of a different kind when the police pulled her over for
drink driving. Leanne Dodds and her husband were on their
way home from a fancy-dress party when officers stopped
their Ford Mondeo after seeing it swerving across the road.
Police found the mum of two dressed as the Star Wars
heroine, with her husband in full Luke Skywalker garb.
Peterlee Magistrates' Court heard the 28-year-old, a Department
for Work and Pensions employee, was heading along the B1285
in Murton, near the A19, when she was stopped.
A breathalyser test revealed Dodds had 88 mcg of alcohol
in 100ml of breath, more than twice the legal limit of
35mcg. She pleaded guilty to drink driving. Debra Jones,
prosecuting, said police had seen the car drifting towards
the white lines of the road and then back towards the kerb
twice.
Neil Hodgson, mitigating, said Dodds had agreed to stay
sober and drive so her husband could drink that night.
The couple then left their car at the Glebe Centre in Murton
while they went to a nearby house party.
Dodds ended up drinking wine during the evening, however,
and later decided to take their car the short distance
back to their home in West View. Both had been concerned
about leaving the vehicle because it had been damaged previously,
the court heard. Mr Hodgson said: "She was dressed
as Princess Leia and her husband as Luke Skywalker, and
they thought it was a bit embarrassing to walk the streets
of Murton dressed like that.
Before it done blew up, Alderaan's world-wide favorite
pastime was flying kites. They had kites of everything
imaginable - famous leaders, droids, ships, and donuts
(well, spacedonuts). Well, now the Alderaanians are all
space dust, but their love of flying lives on with these
Star Wars Starfighter Kites.
Each ship is presented in all the kite detail that kites
can provide. You can choose from either Luke's X-Wing,
Vader's Tie Fighter, or Han's Millennium Falcon (hey, he
won it fair and square). Imagine the peaceful, floaty dogfights
as Darth chases Luke in the trench of a cloudy-made Death
Star, with Han zipping in and taking Darth down. Just like
the movies, but a lot more relaxing. We love it, the Alderaanians
loved it, and so will you.
3D Star Wars Starfighter Kites
Build and fly a kite that looks just like your favorite
Star Wars fighter! Choice of X-Wing, Tie Fighter, or Millennium
Falcon

NEW YORK (AP) — Hasbro Inc., the nation's second-largest
toy maker, said Monday first-quarter profit fell 47 percent,
hurt by the stronger dollar and retailers cutting back
on their inventory levels, but results met analyst expectations.
Profit for the three months ended March 29 fell to $19.7
million, or 14 cents per share, from $37.5 million, or
25 cents per share. Revenue fell 12 percent to $621.3
million from $704.2 million. Excluding the stronger dollar,
revenue fell about 6 percent.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters predicted, on average,
a profit of 14 cents on revenue of $644.9 million.
"We expected revenues to decline in the first quarter
due to economic challenges, the impact of foreign exchange
and retailers reducing inventory levels," said Chief
Executive Brian Goldner in a statement.
In the U.S., Star Wars, Playskool, Nerf and board game
sales were strong, but sales of Littlest Pet Shop, Transformers
and Marvel brands declined. Internationally, Star Wars
and Nerf sales were strong while Transformers and My Little
Pony sales fell.
The first quarter is the seasonally smallest for toy
makers. Last week, Mattel reported a loss for the quarter
ended March 31 as revenue fell 15 percent to $785.6 million.
Hasbro of Pawtucket, R.I., expects results to improve
as the year goes on, since they have products tied to several
movies this year, including "Transformers: Revenge
of the Fallen, "G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra" and "X-men
Origins: Wolverine."
"Based on the strength of our product line, we believe
the two most recent quarters will prove to have been the
most challenging for Hasbro in this economic cycle," CFO
David Hargreaves said in a statement.

Darth Vader Toaster!
If there's something every Sith Lord knows
how to do it's make a balanced breakfast! While the Jedi
have to live off of Jawa juice and fried nerfsteak, the Dark
Lord of the Sith prefers to have a reminder of his fiery
Mustafar defeat at his breakfast table. Every morning he
burns that moment into a slice of bread with the Darth Vader
Toaster. This black, ominous kitchen appliance easily leaves
the mark of Vader's helmet in every yummy piece of toast.
Slather some Bantha butter on top, or make two pieces for
an extra-Sithy BLT. Force power not required to operate toaster.

Ultimate 1/4 Scale Obi-Wan Kenobi Arrives This Week:
I kind of felt bad for Obi-Wan in Episode III. He has
to disarm his best friend (literally) and then when he
volunteers to watch over young Luke, only THEN does Yoda
decree that the boy should be taken back to his family,
who conveniently live on a backwater dustball in the armpit
of the galaxy. Meanwhile Leia gets raised as royalty on
lush, beautiful Alderaan. Any way you slice it, Obi-Wan
got hosed. But Sir Alec Guinness fans can rejoice, because
the UQS Obi-Wan figure arrives this week, and features
an elaborate fabric wardrobe including robe, belt, boots,
and hooded outer robe, and is equipped with a blue lightsaber.
Reserve yours now and lock in the great pre-order price!
New Star Wars Battlepacks Offer Troop Builders Galore:
It seems like all the attention has been on The Clone
Wars animated line lately, what with the show being a mega
hit and all...but Hasbro hasnt forgotten the films, which
get some new Battle Packs soon as part of the Legacy Collection!
The best part is, these babies injclude some long requested
fan favorites, such as GEONOSIAN ASSAULT, featuring clone
gunship pod, and FELUCIAN GELAGRUB PATROL, which includes
a 327th Star Corps Clone Trooper, and the slug-like Gelagrubs
the rode before shooting poor Aayla Secura in the back.
Also on the way is a new ENDOR EWOK ASSAULT pack which
includes an Imperial Officer, an Ewok with hang glider,
and the always popular Jedi version of Luke, with removable
Endor Gear. Rounding out the assortment is a new Clone

Many collectors know Gus Lopez and Duncan Jenkins. From
their collecting panels at Star Wars Fan Days and at Star
Wars Celebration to the website The Star Wars Collector's
Archive, these two supercollectors are experts in Star
Wars collecting. And now they have released a definitive
Star Wars price guide and collectibles' list, Gus and Duncan's
Comprehensive Guide to Star Wars Collectibles. On this
week's Star Wars Action News, we sit down with Gus and
Duncan to talk about their collecting hobbies and this
new book.
Also this week we talk about the 3-D Star Wars Kites
from Go Fly A Kite and play a listener's rebuttal, claiming
the Star Wars Expanded Universe IS accessible to new readers.
In stark contrast to the whimsical antics seen in the Original
Trilogy, the Star Wars prequels brought a more relentless
and dangerous tone to its droids. They introduced an entire
culture of combat droids to the cinematic Star Wars universe,
a culture only previously glimpsed at with IG-88’s
background appearance aboard the Executor. Destroyer droids
tumbled through battleship corridors like unstoppable juggernauts.
Oceans of Federation battle droids swept across the fields
of Naboo. Super Battle Droids corralled frantic Jedi on the
sands of Geonosis.
But those paled in comparison to the most menacing combat
droids yet: General Grievous’ personal bodyguards,
the IG-100 MagnaGuard droids. While only briefly featured
in Revenge of the Sith, audiences had already gotten more
than an eyeful of their devastating fighting abilities as
Shaak Ti desperately fended them off during the climax of
Clone Wars Volume 2. Armed with lightsaber-resistant electrostaffs,
MagnaGuards represented the height of sophistication and
lethality among the Separatist Droid Army, surpassed only
by the Droid General himself.
Today’s review takes an in-depth look at Hasbro’s
latest version of the IG-100 MagnaGuard—this time from
the animated Clone Wars Collection. Whereas the original
Episode III version was hampered by a “squeeze-the-legs” slashing
action feature, this new version thankfully lacks any such
gimmicks and sports a leaner and more menacing look than
its predecessor. On the other hand, it’s clearly visible
that Hasbro still hasn’t seen fit to give the droid
any articulation below the hips, so the chances of this figure
living up to its new and improved look appear slim.
But appearances can be deceiving… Click the images

Review:
Emperor Palpatine’s Clone and Luke Skywalker
A year and a half ago, I reviewed the Episode V Infinities
Darth Vader and Leia Organa Comic Pack and came to a disheartening
conclusion: Hasbro was being “lazy” with the
quality of the figures. Since then, the Comic Packs have
exploded into a major element of the Star Wars toy license
with more than 40 sets released and more on the way. But
did Hasbro improve the quality in that span of time?
Unfortunately, not as much as I had hoped. Paint applications
are still dodgy on some figures (e.g. – the Princess
Leia figure included in the Leia/Xizor pack), and many
figures are still lacking in their articulation and pale
in comparison to their single-carded counterparts. The
reason for this still eludes me, and it is increasingly
unacceptable since the prices are averaging $13 per set
(or $6.50 per figure)—a noticeable increase from
their original $10 price tag.
Yet there are some packs which appear to fire on all cylinders.
Of course, one can never really know until they put the
figures to the test. Today’s review looks at a relatively
recent Comic Pack, one that (in the packaging) looks like
a winner and worthwhile purchase. The conclusion, unfortunately,
is not clear-cut and greatly depends on the personal tastes
of the consumer. The reasons for that will become clear
as we proceed.
However, a quick note before we begin…
Contrary to most of our product reviews, these figures
will be largely based on their own aesthetics and design
rather than compared against their comic book counterparts.
The biggest reason is that I don’t own the Dark Empire
II trade paperback, and other reference images are in short
supply on the Internet. Additionally, the enclosed issue
does not give a good look at either Palpatine or Luke.
Even if it did, the illustrations in this early Dark Horse
comic book are very stylized and are not viable as reference
material anyway.
That being said, let’s begin. Click the images below

Star
Wars Action News Update!
Perhaps we are getting old when we have to be told by
Hasbro employees that "the value of a dollar isn't
what it used to be" but that doesn't make the increasing
cost of Hasbro Star Wars toys any easier for collectors'
pocket books. With 3.75" figures ranging from $8 to
$13 at retail, Ughnauts downsized from two per pack to
one per pack, and vehicle rereleases costing nearly double
what they used to, collectors dollars are getting stretched
thinner and thinner, and in this economy it is not what
collectors need. We tackle this hard issue this week on
Star Wars Action News, looking at some new Toys R Us exclusive
repacks that aren't the value of the original packs, and
with a Hasbro Q&A asking about cost, quality of figures,
and quantity of figures.
We also look at some other sites' Hasbro Q&As where
information is revealed about Hasbro's collector market,
and the fact that the new packaging will see the first
change in 3.75" figure card sizes in Star Wars' 32
year history.
With a look at the latest Star Wars Minis expansion,
Imperial Entanglements, and a vintage review of 4-LOM (Or
is it Zuckuss?) it's all on this week's Star Wars Action
News!

awesome Anniversary Sale, which we think you'd probably enjoy.

Star
Wars Named One of The Most Influential Classic Movies
by TCM!
This list of movies signifies films that
TCM has deemed influential in the arena of film and the
culture that produced them. These are not necessarily the
most important films, nor representative of “firsts” in
film history—these are the movies that shaped the
cinema and the audiences that viewed them. On its 15th
anniversary, TCM reflects on these titles, many of which
are vital examples of the programming that our network
has proudly presented to audiences. These films are presented
in chronological order.
Star Wars - "A long time ago, in a
Hollywood far away, movies only made their money from ticket
sales. With Star Wars, however, new markets opened up for
merchandising-- not just of toys-- but novels, comics,
television series and eventually video games. Adding to
what would become known as the "Star Wars Expanded
Universe" were a series of sequels and prequels more
tightly connected than in other franchises. Over the course
of 28 years, George Lucas created a six-part serial that
has grown into the epic tragedy of Anakin Skywalker/Darth
Vader. Star Wars did more than create expanded economic
opportunities. At a time when science fiction was relegated
mostly to low-budget productions, Lucas' created a multi-million
dollar sci-fi epic based on the Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers
serials of his youth. The use of sophisticated special
effects would have a lasting effect on future big-budget
epics of all genres. His childhood obsessions helped a
new generation of filmmakers, the movie nerds, dominate
the screen. For Lucas, Star Wars was the chance to do his
favorites right. His vision of a lived-in universe (he
deliberately gave sets and props a used look) inspired
later, more serious works like the Alien films and Blade
Runner. "
A friend of mine at work named Jeff said
to me recently, "The Millennium Falcon is like the
Star Wars version of a cool, old van." After I chuckled,
I realized he's right. My mind being what it is, I began
to think about how many customized Star Wars vans, trucks,
buses and even campers were out there. Well, here's what
I uncovered. Just as a side note... cars, motorcycles and
SUV's were intentionally excluded from this list...
LONDON (Hollywood Reporter) - If you think
the world doesn't need another variation on "Star
Wars" on top of the six films, assorted animations,
video games and toys, you are forgetting the extraordinary
force of the music John Williams wrote for the science-fiction
epic.
"Star Wars: A Musical Journey," which was presented
Friday at London's 02 Arena for the first time, features
two hours of the wonderfully varied themes and cues that
Williams has rearranged to accompany a series of sequences
from the six moves especially edited for the production
by Lucasfilm.
Williams has won five Academy Awards, including one for
his original music for the first "Star Wars" film
in 1977, and the extraordinarily rich texture of his scores
for the sequels that followed demonstrate his remarkable
talent. He recorded the scores with the London Symphony
Orchestra, but that ensemble could not commit to the new
production's planned tour. The LSO's pre-eminence, especially
in its brass section, was on display in London's Barbican
Hall on April 4 in a splendid concert titled "A Life
in Film" that featured several Williams pieces.
Still, the 86-piece Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and
Choir did a fine job on the night, helped considerably
by the electrifying Belgian conductor Dirk Brosse, whose
skill with film scores is demonstrated each year at the
World Soundtrack Awards held during the Ghent Film Festival.

New
Hasbro Star Wars Q&A!
Check out the next Yodasnews Hasbro Q&A below!
YN: With the new package design shown at NYTF and more
recently in packaged images on the web, is Hasbro looking
to release a new clamshell 5 or 10 pack protection pack
for the MOC collectors now that the design is back to a
more "square" design?
H: We're glad you asked. The new card is actually 5.5" x
8.25", reduced slightly from the current 6"x9" card
size to conform to retail planogram modular sizing (actually
the same size as all of Hasbro's new basic figures). It
is too small to fit in the current clamshell and right
now, we do not have any plans to produce a new, smaller-size
clamshell that would accommodate the new card size.
YN: A lot of people were sad to hear that
the Mighty Muggs will be TRU Exclusives this fall, can
you give us any more information on this? We heard from
e-stores and Hasbro direct dealers that MM were a great
seller. With a lot of collectors and kids not able to get
to TRU in all areas will these also be sold on Hasbro's
Website or TRU's site? Any chance they will come back to
a broader release in 2010?
H: Despite fans of the format, Mighty Muggs seemed to
appeal to a small but passionate minority of the overall
Star Wars collecting audience compared to all our other
Star Wars sub lines. There is no chance that Mighty Muggs,
at least in the current size or format, will come back
as a broader or national release. It is unknown whether
TRU.com will be selling Mighty Muggs, but we'll pass on
the encouragement. It will not be sold through HasbroToyShop.com.
YN: At the Collector's Event in New York, there was several
comments made about new Comic Con debuts. Will there will
be "press only collector event" in San Diego
as a "Part 2" from New York or will it be like
past SDCC Hasbro events where the audience is more diverse?
H: Comic Con will follow the same format as always -
open to the public on Wednesday evening, with a presentation
to all comers on Friday (Star Wars day). Everyone is welcome,
and trust us when we say that this year will have a tremendous
number of reveals....in the presentation if not all in
the booth.
Whether you're addicted to Star Wars, chocolate, or both,
there's a ton of new Easter products hitting supermarket
shelves around the globe for the fan needing a fix. Egg
deco from the US, chocolate clones from Canada, gift-filled
eggs from Sweden, and cake snacks from Brazil are just
a few of the many Star Wars goodies making their way to
your galaxy this Easter!
While many fans may be wondering why their country doesn't
carry all the Star Wars goodness that say, the British
are getting (six products!), we still thought fans might
want to see some of the cool collectibles and edibles available
around the world this Easter season. The chocolate clone
trooper helmet from Vadeboncoeur (right) looks delicious,
but definitely too cool to eat!
Easter is almost
here and ALL toys, statues, busts, everything is 10% off. Plus,
we have free standard shipping on all orders over $90.00 through
Easter. The sale ends Easter Sunday, so don't put off buying
the DC Universe Classics, Clone Wars, Mighty Muggs, Animated
Transformers and GI Joe action figures.

10% discount is taken as soon as you add an item to your cart.

Wars Action News Update!
For many years it seems that Star Wars licensed Easter
items had been lacking, but this year Target and Toys R
Us have combined to rectify that. More than just the usual
dye kit, this year we get two egg dye kits, one with a
kit to make a giant TIE Fighter egg! Plus easter baskets,
easter buckets, Easer Eggs filled with candy and Jake character
art, special Legos, and more. This week on Star Wars Action
News we build the ultimate Star Wars Easter Basket for
a 3 year old and give tips how you could modify this for
kids of all ages.
Also this week, we discuss the Star Wars items you can
buy from the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson (Jesus
Juice not included) and we listen to your voicemails on
new Force Unleashed figures found at Toys R Us, misprints
on Topps Galaxy 4 Series cards, and one listener's recent
purchase of a life sized Star Wars item!
Finally, on a serious note, on this show we send good
thoughts to our friend and Star Wars author Aaron Allston
who had quadruple bypass surgery last week. You can send
well-wishes to Aaron at:

In a galaxy far, far away they are sworn enemies but
the actor who played Star Wars favourite C-3PO has backed
the Dark Lord, Darth Vader in his campaign to encourage
men to get tested for prostate cancer.
Dave Prowse - who played the menacing Vader in the original
films - revealed last month that he has recently completed
treatment for the disease.
He is raising money for the Royal Marsden Hospital in
London where he was treated and is trying to raise awareness
of the need for regular checks for men over 50.
Speaking on Absolute Radio last weekend C-3PO actor Anthony
Daniels revealed he has also faced his own fight against
cancer.
He said: "I myself have had skin cancer from sunbathing
as a kid. You know people my age were told to go out in
the sun, peel your skin off, get some vitamin e in you
and now people are getting skin cancer.
"I know Ewan McGregor has had treatment for it.
Let's be serious and say to you listeners who are a little
bit older check it out, there is nothing weird about prostate
test, mine was just a blood test. You've only got one life
and one body."
Daniels is to narrate a live performance of John Williams's
Star Wars scores in Star Wars: A Musical Journey at the
O2.
750 - that is the number of collectors
that will get a chance to own the Obi-wan
Kenobi Sabotage Diorama. While it is currently sold
out there are still wait list reservations being taken.

Star
Wars: The Old Republic Classes Will Be Faction Specific!
Hope you weren't thinking "good guys" if you
were planning on being a bounty hunter in the upcoming
Star Wars: The Old Republic. After all, these are the guys
who worked for Darth Vader, the bad guys. At least, according
to writer Daniel Erickson.
In The Old Republic's development blog, Erickson wrote, "Star
Wars is a story about good and evil - it simply doesn't
make sense to have Jedi and Sith doing the same quests.
Creating one batch of content for all players would have
been half the cost, taken half the time and solved any
number of organizational headaches but it was simply the
wrong choice from a storytelling perspective."
After all, Erickson wrote, "This was Star Wars,
not Star Neutral Guy's Adventure." He added that Han
was unaffiliated for about "six minutes of the the
movie," but that "doesn't last long."

This week we are featuring new pre-orders including

George Lucas has turned his attentions from "Star
Wars" to World War II and an all-star cast for his
next film project, "Red Tails."
Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr., Oscar-nominee Terrence
Howard, Method Man, Ne-Yo, and "90210" star Tristan
Wilds have all been announced for the WWII drama, about
the first African-American aerial combat unit.
"I've been wanting to do "Red Tails" for
20 years," admits Lucas, who will executive produce
through his own company, Lucasfilm, with Anthony Hemingway
set to direct.
The stellar ensemble cast will play the heroic Tuskegee
Airmen, elite fighter-pilots who overcame racial prejudice
in the U.S. military to form the celebrated 332nd Fighter
Group, who successfully flew deep into German-occupied
Europe during WWII.
FOR HIS television debut, California-based
Fil-Am artist Randy Bantog has taken on a job close to
his heart—designing characters for that “galaxy
far, far away.”
The 27-year-old Randy, who finished his Illustration
and Concept Design course at the Art Center College of
Design over a year and a half ago, is one of the concept
artists of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” a CGI
animated TV series set in the fictional Star Wars galaxy.
The job was a dream come true for Randy, a fan of the
George Lucas saga since he was a kid. “I watched
the original (live action film) trilogy numerous times
on video and, like every young boy, I wished I could be
a Jedi Knight,” Randy told Inquirer in an e-mail
interview. “When the prequels came out, I watched
them in the theaters and then on DVD many times as well.”

VH1's Pop Up Video may be long gone, but
the idea of "pop-up" blurbs in re-airing of popular
shows has continued strong. Lost and Heroes have done it,
and now Cartoon Network has announced Star Wars: The Clone
Wars Decoded, a re-airing of the hit show's first season
complete with little pop-up notations. Beginning May 1,
2009 at Clone Wars regular 9 PM ET time slot, Decoded will
re-air all 22 episodes of the series' hit first season,
leading to the second season premiere in the fall.
The text windows will offer trivia, background information
on characters and the larger Star Wars storyline. I can't
wait for the Jar Jar Binks episodes. "Jar Jar is a
stupid character." "This is what happens when
you indulge the whims of the creator no matter how stupid
they are." "The creators of the character Jar
Jar Binks were so ashamed of their contribution to the
Star Wars mythos that they quit television. They're currently
working in product and character development for Chuck
E. Cheese."
Gentle Giant posted a sneak peek image of a
new PGM Exclusive Blue Snaggletooth Statue yesterday. It
will only be sold to Premier Guild Members via Gentle Giant
LTD, no word yet on price or when it will be sold.
Why is it that more than thirty years after
the first movie hit theaters, Star Wars continues to spark
debate over its appeal to children, whether it is appropriate
material and whether George Lucas' empire exerts too much
influence?
Lightsaber You may have caught an article by Emily Bazelon
in Slate over the weekend, titled "May The Force Be
With Them: Why does Star Wars still take over the minds
of small boys?" The subject is one of constant debate;
as a matter of fact, GeekDad's Daniel Donahoo wrote about
it in January.
In the Slate article, the author was interviewing a
child psychologist and ended up discussing the fact that
her 5 (almost 6) and 3 year-old boys had been allowed to
watch Star Wars with their parents. She was admonished
by the psychologist for having done so. From there, the
piece goes on to examine the pervasiveness of Lucas' creation,
especially the mindshare it commands among children (boys
in particular), whether they have seen the movies or not.
I had another reminder of how firmly entrenched Star
Wars has become outside of geek culture when I leafed through
the latest Hammacher Schlemmer catalog and found (on page
35, if you're interested, next to the "Keep Your Distance" Bug
Vacuum, which itself looks something like a lightsaber
as interpreted by Sunbeam), a series of replica Star Wars
lightsabers. What I found particularly interesting was
the detail the catalog went into to ensure that potential
buyers understand there are four different model lightsabers
being offered, and that each is authentically modeled after
the weapon used by a specific character in a specific movie.
This is a level of detail I would not have expected here;
when they're offered for sale at ThinkGeek, sure, but not
in a mass market mail order catalog.
Star Wars as a marketing machine...

Ahhh. The "Star Wars" obsession. Yesterday
on Slate, Emily Bazelon explores why more than 30 years
after the original movie was released, the galaxy far,
far away, still captivates young boys. Three years ago,
when her younger son was almost 3 and her oldest was nearly
6, Bazelon's boys watched the original "Star Wars" movie:
Long after the actual memory of the film faded, Eli and
Simon talked and played in George Lucas' world. When we
refused to buy them toy light sabers, their baby sitter
rolled up newspapers into sturdy cones. The kids crayoned
them green, purple, and yellow and bashed each other over
the head, not quite Jedi-like. With their friends, they
dissected the business of Jabba the Hutt and the furriness
of Ewoks, never mind that they appear in later movies that
my kids have never seen.
The "Star Wars" sleeplessness in little Eli,
along with some other research, prompted the family to
banish George Lucas' movies for awhile. Now, three years
later, they have returned. Unlike the first showing, sleeplessness
has not ensued. But the banter of "Star Wars" plot
twists and characters continues.
Clearly, there's something about "Star Wars" that
captivates young boys. Long before we allowed our oldest
to watch the movie, he was debating it with his kindergarten
friends. And like Bazelon's boys, both of mine can recount
information about characters they've never actually watched
in movies. Surely, they aren't alone. A few months ago,
at a showing of "The Magic Tree House: The Musical" in
Baltimore, the hottest selling item in the theater was
light sabers. You could barely turn anywhere without seeing
kids acting out the battles.

Chewbacca
Recreated On Guitar!
Yodasnews.com Neil reports in with
a video he saw on the StarWars.com blog of a Chewie Roar on
a stratocaster guitar, check it out:
On screen, David Prowse could strangle a man with a flick
of his finger and destroy planets from his space station,
but the actor best known for playing Darth Vader in the
Star Wars films was less persuasive when it came to dealing
with Hollywood.
Prowse has revealed that although he is entitled to a
small percentage of box office receipts for two of the
three original Star Wars films — The Empire Strikes
Back and Return of the Jedi — he has not received
residual payments for Return of the Jedi because producers
told him that it has not made a profit.
“In the last 30 years you can count the number
of times [The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi]
have been in the cinema on one hand, and it never returned
much money,” he said in an interview in Equity magazine. “I
get these occasional letters from Lucasfilm saying that
we regret to inform you that as Return of the Jedi has
never gone into profit, we’ve got nothing to send
you. Now here we’re talking about one of the biggest
releases of all time.”
In real terms, Return of the Jedi is the fifth highest
grossing film so far made. The film made $572 million (£388
million) at cinemas worldwide, including an estimated $88
million when it was re-released as a “special edition” in
1997.
Still disappointed by Return of The Jedi years later?
Perhaps you would've preferred the original version of
the story, as revealed by Star Wars and Empire Strikes
Back producer Gary Kurtz in a 2005 interview.
Kurtz, who worked with George Lucas on the first two
Star Wars movies before going on to produce The Dark Crystal
and Return To Oz, explained what we could've seen in the
third film, in a 2005 interview with Film Threat:
Wattographs is please to announce
our private autograph signings with original and prequel trilogy
actors, Anthony Daniels and Zuraya Hamilton!
Anthony Daniels is the man behind the golden droid C-3PO!
Daniels has been involved with his character since the beginning
including all 6 films and adding his voice to the hit series
'Clone Wars' on Cartoon Network! He will be signing fans'
personal items and a standard photo of Threepio from "A
New Hope".
Zuraya Hamilton portrayed jedi knight, Khaat Qyin in "Attack
of the Clones." Hamilton worked behind the camera during
filming and stepped in as the jedi in the Geonosis Arena
and a Rodian Senator. She will be signing photos provided
by OfficialPix.com and fans' personal items!
Signing ends April 30th at 11:59:59pm EDT. Personal items
for Anthony Daniels need to arrive with Scott by April 21
st. Items for Zuraya Hamilton need to arrive with Scott by
May 1st. Please contact Wattographs with any questions, photo
selection and full signing details!

the Jedi then check

this second
chance here,
or if you prefer a younger Princess then get the ANH 12" figure
here!
It's easy to forget amid all the hype for Star Wars: The
Clone Wars, but George Lucas is actually hard at work on
a second Star Wars television show. First announced way back
in 2005, this live-action series is planned for debut next
year and is intended to focus on the murky time period between
the end of Episode III and the opening of Episode IV.
Little else is known about the series, other than the
fact that Lucas has compared it to "Deadwood meets The Sopranos
in space". We also know that the series will focus on
a variety of minor characters in the Star Wars mythos, though
the possibility of guest appearances by many famous icons
is not out of the questions. This thought both intrigues
and worries us. As much as we'd enjoy seeing characters like
Han Solo and Obi-Wan Kenobi in live action again, we're just
not convinced the show would do them justice.
Therefore, we've gone down the list and picked out the 10
characters we don't want to see in the live-action series.
Consider this the antithesis of our Players Wanted features.
And we definitely want to hear which Star Wars characters
you do or don't want in the live action show. Fire your comments
through the five-by-five meter hole and let's go home! (Sorry,
we couldn't resist.)

What
does an editor in Los Angeles, a scenic shop in Pennsylvania
and a lighting designer in London have in common?
They are all working around the clock to bring to Star Wars:
A Musical Journey to life.
As George Lucas and his crew at ILM and Skywalker Sound
can attest, bringing Star Wars to life is a lot of work and
Star Wars: A Musical Journey is no different. Right now there
are crews all over the world putting the finishing touches
on as the premier draws near.
Sets for the exhibit are being built in Pennsylvania, orchestras
are rehearsing in London, shows are being booked from the
home office in Berkeley and the archivist are busy at Skywalker
Ranch. In just a few weeks everything will come together,
the curtain will go up and fans will be blown away.
In the meantime, hundreds of people around the world aren't
getting any sleep. Here is another peek at the stage as things
come together at London's historic Elstree Studios.
