Jalopnik reader phenotyp and car design school

up these sketches done for Hasbro back in 2008. What are they?
Star Wars toy cars. Yes, they're fantastic.

The entrepreneurial spirit is strong with this
one. A budding young businessman has renounced the lemonade stands
of his peers, venturing instead on an origami journey to a galaxy
far, far away. A Redditor by the name of Clapshands was kind enough
to share the picture below, telling The Huffington Post he spotted
the young Jedi in Detroit, Mich. While the resulting origami isn't
exactly LucasFilm quality, it's still pretty good.

It's bedtime in the Star Wars galaxy, and Darth Vader's parenting
skills are tested anew in this delightful follow-up to the breakout
New York Times bestsellers Darth Vader™ and Son and Vader's™
Little Princess. In this Episode, the Sith Lord must soothe his
rambunctious twins, Luke and Leia—who are not ready to sleep
and who insist on a story. As Vader reads, the book looks in on
favorite creatures, droids, and characters, such as Yoda, R2-D2,
Han Solo, Chewbacca, Darth Maul, Admiral Ackbar, Boba Fett, and
many others as they tuck in, yawn, and settle down to dream. As
ever, Jeffrey Brown's charming illustrations and humor glow throughout,
playing on children's book conventions to enchant adults and kids
alike.

The
Empire Strikes Back Voted Greatest Movie Of All Time
If there's one thing film fans love to do, it's
argue about which movies are the best. When someone disagrees,
then a great debate sparks up about the virtues of their favored
film as compared to the failings of their opponent's choice. That's
why any ranked list of the greatest movies is destined to spark
spirited discussions.
Empire magazine polled more than 250,000 film
fans and came up with their definitive list of the 301 greatest
movies of all time. Rising to the top of the heap was the second
"Star Wars" film produced, and the fifth in the series,
"The Empire Strikes Back."
Most "Star Wars" fans agree that "Empire"
is the best of the six films produced thus far, but now it stands
atop the heap of every film ever made & at least, according
to this list. In continuing good news for "Star Wars"
fans, the original film came in at #6. Episodes III and VI also
ranked on the list, but neither were in the Top 100. There was
no love at all for the first two installments of George Lucas'
prequel trilogy.
"Empire" leapfrogged both "Raiders of the
Lost Ark" and "The Godfather," which sat atop Empire's
last such poll in 2008. "Raiders" slipped to #9 in the
latest poll. Newer films represented well, also, with "The
Dark Knight" landing at #3, and "Inception" landing
at #10.
The Top 10
1. "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back"
2. "The Godfather"
3. "The Dark Knight"
4. "The Shawshank Redemption"
5. "Pulp Fiction"
6. "Star Wars: A New Hope"
7. "The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring"
8. "Jaws"
9. "Raiders Of The Lost Ark"
10. "Inception"

Review: SSC Darth Maul Mythos Statue
The art team at Sideshow wanted to tell some new
stories about some of our favorite Star Wars characters and, with
the encouragement of Lucasfilm, created the Mythos line of statues
which has proved to be a huge fan favorite!
With the Mythos Darth Maul, Sideshow was paying homage to a story
from the Star Wars Tales comic titled “Nameless.”
In it, Maul is tasked to track down and assassinate a legendary
Jedi with technique so pure he wields only a wooden club. After
being once defeated, Maul fabricates his signature dual lightsaber,
inspired by Sith schematics and weapons of his native people.
Per Sideshow, "We have envisioned him in a strong, almost
meditative martial artist pose. He is dressed in loose garments
not unlike that of a Ronin samurai, with one sleeve off and fabric
draped to expose tattoos on his upper body. He stands with both
arms extended, one clutching his victorious new weapon at his
side, and the other out in a Force push."

More than 40,000 bricks. 110 pounds (50 kilograms).
6.62 feet long (2.02 meters). 4.1 feet wide (1.25 meters). 1.9
feet tall (58 centimeters). Eight months of design and building.
Those are the stats for the biggest, most accurate Lego Imperial
Star Destroyer ever built. It's truly amazing.
This model of the Chimaera—the Imperial II-class Star
Destroyer used by Grand Admiral Thrawn in the Star Wars extended
universe—is not only amazing because of its massive size.
It's the perfection and accuracy of this Lego machine is one of
the most impressive Lego builds I've ever seen. Every single detail
was resolved with masterful skill, using a technique called SNOT—or
Studs Not On the Top. If you notice, you won't see any of the
typical Lego bricks studs.
Jerac, a Lego builder from Lódz, Poland, started to
design this titanic model on November 11 2013. It was a very complex
endeavor, so building actually started on December 28, 2013, ending
on June 1, 2014, just two days ago.
Check out the intricate work. The imagination he displays
in the use some of these pieces is simply incredible. Kudos Jerac!

Boss Fight Studio Kickstarter
If you've enjoyed collecting any of Hasbro's
releases throughout this decade, you may be interested in
this new Kickstarter campaign. Boss Fight Studio, comprised
of three designers and two sculptors who created many of your
favorite action figures from The Vintage Collection, The
Clone Wars, Saga Legends, G.I. JOE, Marvel, and more,
introduces their first original line, Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S.
Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. is a line of highly
articulated action figures for adult collectors designed with
play and customization in mind. - Boss Fight Studio
The initial lineup consists of familiar names
from Greek mythology, including Medusa and Spartan Warriors.
Various reward levels allow you to build your Spartan and Gorgon
armies according to your preferences. This line was developed
with customizers in mind, as "H.A.C.K.S." stands for Highly
Articulated Character Kit System. The figures will be fully
assembled when you receive them, but hobbyists will rejoice in
how easily they can be disassembled for customization.
With the current lull in retail action figure
aisles, collectors will be looking to independent companies more
and more going forward. Boss Fight Studio stands out among the
crowd, not only based on the previous work of its creative
talent, but now with the first wave of Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. This
is an exciting opportunity to start your collection, and you
won't want to miss out on the exclusive figures available only
to Kickstarter drive participants.
You can pledge and secure your Vitruvian
H.A.C.K.S. figures

Why
is Star Wars Episode VII shooting in Abu Dhabi?
Posted at Metro.co.uk
from our friends Mark Newbold and James Burns:
As of May 16, the filming of Star Wars Episode
VII entered hyperdrive as the production moved continents to Abu
Dhabi, where second unit shooting was already well underway and
leaked photographs of what looked like the foot of an AT-AT (a
familiar vehicle to Star Wars fans, first seen in The Empire Strikes
Back 34 years ago) were seen spreading across a hungry internet.
With rumours rife that the story sees our heroes return to
the desert planet of Tatooine, why would the production aim for
Abu Dhabi and not the original location of Tunisia, where A New
Hope set up shop almost 40 years ago back in 1976 and Attack of
the Clones in 2000?
The answer could well be two fold. From a practical,
film production point of view the reason is simple – economics...

With big Star Wars announcements last week,
such as the news that Gareth Edwards will be directing the first
Star Wars spin-off, it's understandable that some smaller headlines
slipped through the cracks. One such dissemination that isn't
getting much attention is the cancellation of Star Wars: Attack
Squadrons.
Attack Squadrons was a online space combat game being developed
by Disney Interactive via the new-found studio, Area 52 Games.
Attack Squadrons was first teased back on December 17th, 2014
through a trailer and launched a closed beta in January 2014.
The trailer showed exciting game play, albeit briefly, which involved
the Battle of Endor. Also featured were custom paint jobs for
both Imperial and Rebellion ships and the classic Original Trilogy
score setting the theme.
Overall opinions of the beta were lukewarm at best, which
isn't too uncommon during a beta test. Some exciting details did
come out after the beta launched though, that did raise expectations
of the final project. These included 16-player matches in three
different modes, a variety of maps (including the Death Star II
over Endor, and that the game would be using the Unity Game Engine.
