Clone Wars Sgt. Clone Trooper Maquette!
Last seen on display at San Diego Comic Con this
past summer, we now have a date for the Sgt. Clone Trooper
Maquette! Standing 9.25 inches tall and coming out Spring/Summer
2009, check out the image below (click for the full size picture).
It's a fairly safe bet to say that Haze and
TimeSplitters developer Free Radical was definitely working
on Star Wars: Battlefront III before firing most of its staff,
as ex-artist Richard Smith has posted a few models from the
project as examples of his work.
And while the models have since been yanked
from Smith's official site, fansite SWBF3.de was able to
archive and republish the images, which include in-game models
of Han Solo and various other characters, all apparently
from 2007.
The current status of Star Wars: Battlefront III is unknown,
though rumors suggest the multiplayer-focused shooter has
been assigned to Rebellion, which handled the PSP releases
of Battlefront II and Renegade Squadron.
Rumors of Battlefront III popped up this past July, after
Amazon.com briefly listed the as-yet-uannounced game for
release on PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS and PSP.
Seth Green and Matthew Senreich are set to
appear as Special Guests at New York Comic Con (NYCC) where
they will be joined by Breckin Meyer, Geoff Johns and Kevin
Shinick on a panel discussing all aspects of the popular
Adult Swim series Robot Chicken. Now in its fourth season,
the network's Emmy-winning series uses stop-motion animation
to bring pop-culture parodies to life in a modern take on
the variety/sketch show format. The panelists will be available
to sign Robot Chicken material in the VIP Lounge after the
session and signing cards will be provided.

Star
Wars: The Old Republic Focuses on the Player!
The MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role
Playing Game) genre is a pretty big one, but one of the most
popular themes that appear on this market is the space one.
Although EVE Online is currently the most popular space-themed
game, a lot of other titles are beginning to show promise
and will certainly make this genre very popular.
One of the most ambitious projects is the Star Wars: The
Old Republic title, which is currently being developed by
Electronic Arts' BioWare studio, makers of the original RPG
series Knights of the Old Republic, and LucasArts, the owners
of the Star Wars IP (Intellectual Property). Even though
fans are eagerly anticipating any tidbit of information,
the developers haven't really made any big statements, only
saying that it will dominate the space-themed MMORPG genre,
and that it will make a big dent in the World of Warcraft
user base.
However, Greg Zeschuk, one of the co-founders of the BioWare
studio recently unveiled some new details about this future
game. He talked with 1Up and said that Star Wars: The Old
Republic would deliver a great experience, which focused
on the individual player, no matter what side he was on.
Zeschuk then went on to say that the game would gather every
good part of the other space-themed MMORPGs and combine them
with an element of choice.
“Our real focus is on the player, on being the hero
or the villain in the Star Wars universe. It's not so much
a grand story involving everyone so much as you and your
own personal experience. That's really where our focus is.
It's the thing that makes you want to, every day, progress
along the path that you've been on. It's really the concept
of all the good things you've seen in MMOs and adding in
the story and, really, the choice element, the making-the-choice
stuff. I think it just changes the dynamic so much for the
game.”
What was the biggest event for Star Wars in 2008? Many would
say The Clone Wars movie, or TV series. Others would say
The Force Unleashed, or the continuation of the Expanded
Universe in Legacy of the Force soon to be continued in Fate
of the Jedi. For collectors, it might be the pre-order of
eFX Collectibles' X-Wing, the end of the Master Replicas
line, or the BMF. Maybe it was Midnight Madness; maybe it
was San Diego Comic Con.
All of this is recalled and discussed with the benefit of
time in our Star Wars Action News staff year in review roundtable!
Listen as Kevin, Jason, Jerry, Scott, Steve, Arnie, and Marjorie
talk about the highs, the lows, and perhaps most importantly
the toys of Star Wars in 2008.
Listen to remember the year that was, and anticipate the
next year to come!
And we at Star Wars Action News hope you all had a very
happy holiday, and wish you the merriest of New Years!

'Tis the season for watching your favorite childhood
Christmas specials for the hundredth time, but here's one
you likely (luckily?) missed: the Star Wars Holiday Special.
I first saw the 1978 variety show a few years ago at
a Christmas party in Manhattan. It aired only once in the
U.S. (supposedly George Lucas tried his best to bury it),
but had achieved camp-classic cachet among hipster geeks
who trafficked in VHS bootlegs back before anyone could
Google up this two-hour s&%t-show and send it to their
Christmas card list with a click.
I'd heard how bad it was, but nothing could prepare me
for the slow-motion spaceship wreck I was about to see.
Surprisingly, most of the cast from the first Star Wars
signed on; only a pained-looking Harrison Ford seems to
realize what a turd this is. The simple plot -- the Rebels
elude "Imperial entanglements" as they race to
Chewbacca's home planet of Kashyyyk to celebrate the Wookie
holiday Life Day -- leaves plenty of time for "celebrity" cameos:
Bea Arthur as a sassy cantina matron; musical guest Jefferson
Starship (get it?); a high-larious bit in which Harvey
Korman (in alien drag) hosts a cooking show (bantha stew!
silly!); and Diahann Carroll performing one half of what's
best described as an intergalactic, holographic phone-bone.
(True Star Wars nerds will note that the special also features
the official debut of future fan favorite Boba Fett.)
If you're too busy spreading comfort and joy to watch
the entire show, check out the segment embedded below,
in which a clearly possibly stoned Carrie Fisher, in all
her lipglossed glory as Princess Leia, warbles a song honoring
Life Day. (A little pitchy, Princess.) Watch (or at least
jump) all the way to the end to see a blissed-out Fisher
goofing on Peter Mayhew's wookie suit.

Reviews:
Mola Ram (Mighty Muggs) and Young Indiana Jones!
In less than two weeks, 2009 will be here. For
many, the start of the new year brings a sense of better
times to come. But this coming year's chilly January
days will see the death of something that was once promising. They
will see the undignified and unceremonious end of Hasbro's
Indiana Jones toy lines.
The Indiana Jones line was doomed from the very
beginning. The initial waves of products
lacked a coordinated release with stores releasing
their stockpiles on varying days. Some
Wal-Marts even waited a full two weeks after
K-Mart and Toys R Us had stocked their inventory. After
that confusion settled, there was such a glut
of first and second wave product that even the
mind-boggling deluge of Star Wars Episode I toys
paled in comparison. Last but certainly
not least, the quality control and aesthetic
integrity of the action figures were beyond justification.
Perhaps saddest of all is that Hasbro pulled the plug
just as better product started to take shape--items that
had the potential to salvage the entire toy license. Melting
face Toht, anyone? Sadly, it will never come to be.
Today's reviews examine what will
likely be Indiana Jones Collectors' final two Hasbro reviews:
the Young Indy 3.75 scale action figure and the Mola Ram "Mighty
Mugg".

Star
Wars Action News Update
This week on Star Wars Action News we sit down with Lucasfilm's
Steve Sansweet, primary author of the recently released three-volume
Star Wars Encyclopedia Set. Last week we reviewed this set
and complimented it greatly but mentioned the place of a
book encyclopedia in the 21st century. This week we ask the
author himself that question, and several others on the genesis
of this amazing set. Plus we get more information about Clone
Wars series DVD releases, Star Wars Celebration 5, and just
where Steve puts all that stuff he buys.
Also this week, Kevin buys his first 12-back vintage figure.
Which one is it? What condition is it in? How much did it
cost? He answers all those questions in this month's Vintage
collecting segment.
With a Hasbro Q&A, an analysis of the eFX X-Wing's retirement,
and discussing how deep the rabbit hole of Star Wars collecting
is, it's all this week on Star Wars Action News.
Forum member Darth Sledge found the below
pictures posted at collectionstation.com. No official word
yet from Gentle Giant Ltd but they appear to be from the
Hoth Wave of Mini Busts that GG has hinted to at several
interviews and in previous Q&A's.
Not only is this Lego Star Wars diorama of
the ice world Hoth fun to look at, it's got some gadgety
goodness inside too. Oh, and footprints. Tons of tiny minifig
footprints.
As the headline says, the 5'X10' diorama is comprised of
60,000 Lego bricks. It cost creator Mark Borlase about $3,000
and four years of construction time to complete.
There's also the 50 LED lights that illuminate the Echo
Base hangar and bacta tank with a soothing blue. Motorized
AT-AT wenches and a fully operational hanger door top off
this gorgeous pile of eye candy.
And according to the block heads over at Brothers Brick
the diorama also won the recent "Star Wars building
challenge" and was featured in the official LEGO Magazine.

An Episode of Clone Wars?

director Dave Filoni; a web comic; and a detailed episode guide

For those rare occasions where sci-fi geek
meets sports freak, the past year introduced perfect holiday
gifts allowing that rare mix of top-notch athletic performance
and hopeless nerdiness.
Above you see an example of Brunswick's new Viz-A-Ball
Star Wars Edition, cool bowling balls that are ready to plow
through pins. These resin balls come with shiny, 360-degree,
limited-edition graphics. Sure, you can get Hello Kitty or
the Three Stooges, but the Darth Vader and Yoda bowling balls
prove that the power to roll a strike is insignificant next
to the power of The Force.
For those Imperial officers who occasionally get out for
a little fresh air, Bridgestone Golf introduced Star Wars
golf bags in Darth Vader and Stormtrooper designs (pictured,
right). Even at $500 a pop, good luck finding one of these
in stock at the 19th hole's pro shop.
December 21st is the last day to place
a pre-order to acquire the Luke Skywalker’s X-wing
Starfighter “Red Five”, eFX ’s very first

be noted as the edition size on the plaque.
So, if you’re thinking about ordering the X-wing,

Gus
and Duncan's Comprehensive Guide to Star Wars Collectibles!
The book that collectors have clamored for
since the Star Wars phenomenon began over 30 years ago has
finally arrived, courtesy of authors Gus Lopez and Duncan
Jenkins: Gus and Duncan's Comprehensive Guide to Star Wars
Collectibles.
Containing over 75,000 items listed over 984 pages with
36,000 full-color pictures, this is the ultimate guide that
no Star Wars collector should be without. A decade's worth
of research has gone into this 56-chapter tome, representing
collectibles from 100 different countries, including lemon
cola cans from South Africa and Darth Vader duvet covers
from Sweden. It's all here, or at least pretty much every
item known to the authors who have been collecting Star Wars
for three decades.
We asked Gus and Duncan some questions about the Comprehensive
Guide to Star Wars Collectibles, which is currently going
to press...
YN: Are we going to see more Galactic Heroes based off
the Clone Wars line (specifically from the new Animated
Series). And if so, will we also see some sets specific
to certain episodes and adventures?
H: Yes, in fact most of our upcoming Galactic Heroes
2-packs will be based on the new characters from the animated
Clone Wars series. We will also look for inspiration for
Cinema Scenes sets as well, such as the currently available
Obi-Wan with Starfighter.
YN: Again related to the GH line. Many children
(and collectors) enjoy army building with these little
guys as well, any chance we will see 4 packs if solid clone
and solid battle droids in the future?
H: We do not have a 4-pack format available in the Galactic
Heroes. Instead, we are sticking to the bread and butter
2-packs and Cinema Scenes, which have been a big hit. We
occasionally do troop-oriented packs in both assortments,
and will continue to look to these options to round out
the line.
YN: In keeping with the GH theme, can GH fans look forward
to any type of mail away offer for the line (like the Indiana
Jones on Horse one this past summer)? I think it would
be well received with younger fans who may not have yet
had the chance at a "mail away" offer as well
as collector friendly.
H: We don't have any plans to do a mail-in for Galactic
Heroes. While the GH line has a lot of adult fans, kids
remain the primary recipient. As such, they do not have
a great response to mail-in offers. The IJ Adventure Heroes
offer had, by a pretty wide margin, the least interest
of the three mail-in offers. Therefore we'll keep the Star
Wars offers in the 3-3/4" line to give the most folks
possible the chance to participate.

Clutter, clutter everywhere! That’s usually
what happens when an online retail site wants to show you

Still need items for Christmas? There is still time! Place
your order with UPS 2nd Day by 11:59 p.m. Sunday or UPS Next

Tons of vintage carded 12-backs and AFA loose figures have
been added to the website. Obi-Wan's Delta Star fighter and
the Imperial TIE Fighter highlight the new products in this
week. Also, plenty of Indiana Jones exclusives have been
added, including Sallah and Short Round Mighty Muggs and
Mail-Ins! For more of a great selection, check out www.brianstoys.com
It feels like a good majority of our Fan Made
posts have to do with Star Wars, and I apologize on behalf
of the site (because I'm usually the one writing these pieces)
if you're sick and tired of the topic, but I come across
these bits of brilliance and, well, golly gee -- I just wanna
share them with you, is all. This particular little video
was something some dude (or dudette) just created "for
fun" -- and it uses clips from all three original Star
Wars films, edited at a faster pace in black and white with
one of them old school piano tunes used for background music.
The result is an amusing time-waster, and kudos go out to
its creator. I would, however, like to see another one of
these in a longer format with more dialogue cards thrown
in. Check it out below, then let us know what you think.

Although the final original episodes of Star

there's no dearth of Clone Wars fun available at StarWars.com
to keep fans busy until January 2nd, including the first-ever
online "marathon," which begins on Monday.
Starting December 22, all 10 episodes of
the hit Cartoon Network series that have aired to date will
be available online at the official Star Wars website and
at CartoonNetwork.com. What's more, each episode features
a video commentary by supervising director Dave Filoni; a

It's a news round up this week on Star Wars Action News.
From a toy store from our childhood kicking the bucket (again)
to Star Wars The Stage Show to an unexpected Clone Captain
helmet from Attack of the Clones appearing on Starwarsshop.com,
it's been a big week for Star Wars. Star Wars Action News
recounts the news you need to know.
Then this week we sit down with Barry from eFX Collectibles.
Last week, the much awaited Studio Scale X-Wing pre-order
launched at efxcollectibles.com, and sales were surely bolstered
by the last minute announcement that pre-orders placed by
December 21st will be a signature edition at no extra cost.
We ask Barry about the history of the X-Wing, and the eFX
Clone Captain helmet.
Then Barry indulges us in discussing what it is like for
high end collectible companies operating in a soft economy.
Barry gives us first hand accounts and professional opinions
on what the current global economic climate may mean for
the future of Star Wars collectibles. This is an interview
you should not miss.
As you know, our X-wing went up for pre-sale
on December 11th. For those of you who pre-ordered, we would
like to thank you very much because pre-orders have exceeded
even our most optimistic expectations, especially given the
hard economic times we are all facing.
To show our gratitude and as a special
holiday gift from eFX, our X-wing pre-order offer now includes
FREE FedEX Ground shipping to any address in the continental
USA! If you’ve already placed your order for the X-wing,
you will also receive this special gift. However, you must
act quickly since we have made the very difficult decision
to retire our X-wing at the end of this special pre-order
period.
What does this mean? It means that the
edition size will be determined by the actual number of orders
we receive. We will announce the number at the end of the
pre-order period and it will be noted on the plaque.
What does this mean to you, our customer?
It means you will have acquired a very limited edition collectible
and will belong to a very select group of collectors who
will own our very first eFX Star Wars FX Model. As we had
promised when we first announced our new company, eFX will
do its best to keep “collectibles Collectible.”
What does this mean to eFX? It means
that even though it may result in lower revenues for this
item, it will help us to not bear the expense of carrying
inventory which can hurt a small company, especially during
these hard economic times.
So, if you’re thinking about ordering
our Luke Skywalker’s X-wing Starfighter “Red
Five”
FX Model, then visit www.efxcollectibles.com before
it is too late.
And remember each model comes with:
Mark Hamill Signature Plaque
Luke Skywalker pilot sculpted by Gentle Giant
Free FedeX Ground shipping to any address in the continental USA
Easy and convenient layaway plan*
*For a detailed product description and
for the full terms and conditions of this offer, please visit www.efxcollectibles.com .
So let’s close it up and go in
full throttle! Don’t miss our on this incredible replica,

Wars Holiday Cody Mini Bust First Look Images!
Check out some great images of this newly released
Star Wars Holiday Edition Commander Cody Mini Bust!
The weather is getting colder. The lines
are getting longer. The traffic is getting more frantic.
The holidays are nearly upon us!
As the season hits its peak, Yodasnews is entering the final
lap of our multi-month spotlight on Kotobukiya's Star Wars
collectibles. Beginning in late October with our review of
their "Yoda on Dagobah" piece, we have extensively
reviewed seven vinyl model kits from Kotobukiya's ArtFX line—an
exciting marathon made possible by the generosity of our
friends at Things From Another World (www.tfaw.com).
These final days leading up to Christmas are a very busy
time for all of us when family and friends become our main
focus. We know your time is limited and precious, so we have
decided to forgo lengthy reviews at this time. Instead, we
are shifting gears and presenting our next batch of Kotobukiya
models in the form of highly-detailed and thorough Image
Guides, guides of which you will see many more in the coming
year.
Remember: All of the models you see in the next few days
are still available at an astounding 50% off retail price
at www.tfaw.com.
Time is running out, so be sure to visit their site and place
those last minute orders before it's too late!!
Or at least before you have to pay the outrageous overnight
shipping rates…Click the images below to see the Han

Jungle celebrity and Star Trek alumni George
Takei is lending his wonderfully bass-y tones to the Star
Wars animated series, The Clone Wars reports the latest issue
of the US listings magazine, TV Guide.
In their sci-fi preview of 2009 we find out that Takei,
Sulu in the 'classic' Trek series, is voicing Lok Durd -
a nasty and power-crazed Neimoidian general. In the two part
storyline, starting on Jan 16 in North America, he has created
a new weapon that wipes out all living matter but is harmless
to the droids of the Separatist army.
He intends to test his war toy out on the planet Maridun
- a grassy world that is inhabited by the Lurmens. These
little guys (who are apparently lemurs with an Irish brogue)
are pacifists and refuse to take sides in the war and won't
shelter the Jedi (Ahsoka and Anakin) who have crash-landed
there. Fact fans may want to note that the Lurmens are inspired
by characters that Lucas dropped from Revenge Of The Sith.
Andrew's

The force was with Luke Skywalker’s
lightsaber as it reportedly sold for just under $200,000
at an auction of Hollywood props and memorabilia. The lightsaber
used by Actor Mark Hamill in both the original Star Wars:
a New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, was made from an
old photography flashgun. The weapon, sold by Star Wars producer
Gary Kurtz, wasn’t the only memorabilia up for sale
at the Hollywood auction house Profiles in History.
C-3PO’s helmet and robotic hands worn by British
actor Anthony Daniels in the 1983 hit Star Wars: Return of
the Jedi sold for about $100,000 and $30,000 respectively.
An original section of the Death Star from the first 1977
movie also fetched $20,000. Another prized treasure was an
original set of the three Lord of the Rings books, bound
in original red cloth, each volume including a fold out map
of Middle Earth at the back and used to belong to a student
of Tolkien’s. The set all first editions printed in
1954 and signed by JRR Tolkien sold for $90,000.

Just when it appeared that George Lucas had
finally laid to rest his epic saga of Jedis, Wookies and
Ewoks, he has announced that Star Wars will return as a stadium
experience.
The Times has learnt that Lucasfilm has authorised Star
Wars: A Musical Journey, a retelling of the story that will
combine excerpts of the film with live orchestral accompaniment.
Diehard fans may dream of Jedi Knights serenading Jabba
the Hutt and C-3PO singing “Don’t cry for me,
R2-D2” but they are likely to be disappointed. Producers
for the show, which will have its world premiere in Britain,
emphasised that although actors would be used to narrate
the story, it would not be a stage musical.
The production, which condenses more than 13 hours of film
into 90 minutes, will be more like a classical music concert
performed in front of a cinema screen, 27m (90ft) wide.
With only 2,000 pieces of the Han in Carbonite
12" Diorama now is definitely the time to tell your
family that a pre-order is the best gift they can give.
Now if they would rather have something to give in hand
then the Ki-Adi-Mundi
12" figure is shipping right now and is in stock.
If you missed out on the AOTC
Obi-wan Kenobi 12" then make sure to get on the
wishlist now for the Exclusive with the Kamino Dart or
the regular edition is still up for pre-order.
Now you can own a unique and extremely rare piece of the Star
Wars universe, with this artist's proof (A/P) of A. Wasil's
Chewbacca bronze statue.
Sculptor A. Wasil died unexpectedly in October. He was an
internationally regarded sculptor of monumental bronzes, whose
work is installed in many prestigious locations nationwide.
Although he is best known for his larger-than-life pieces,
Wasil created one of the rarest items in the Star Wars universe,
a bronze statue of Chewbacca. It was originally a part of a
series of Star Wars bronzes created under license from Lucasfilm
by Dark Horse Comics. However, the piece is significantly more
limited than most collectors realize. Although the statue was
marketed as a limited edition of 50 pieces, only 10 numbered
copies and five numbered A/P copies were actually produced.
The molds have been destroyed, and this is the only piece currently
available on the public market. Standing at 19.5 inches tall
and weighing 38 lbs., this is a gorgeous sculpture of the Millennium
Falcon's first mate, in a dynamic action pose--bowcaster in
hand, with the helmets of defeated Stormtroopers strewn about
his feet. The patina on this statue is breathtaking and breathes
a life and warmth into this piece appropriate to this archetypal
Wookie.
As Wasil’s estate affairs are being settled, the family
has come to the decision to sell Wasil’s single remaining
A/P copy of the Chewbacca bronze. This creates a rare opportunity
for the Star Wars collector to have an intrinsically valuable
and very scarce art item. Given the rarity of the piece and
the fact that this is an artist's proof, the estate is making
this piece available for $10,000.00. Serious inquiries and
requests for further images should be directed to: andrewm

There are no skeletons in Carrie Fisher’s
closet. She’s dragged them out and scattered them around
the house for all to see, and she’ll tell you hilarious
stories about every one of them — whether you ask her
or not.
Most of those skeletons appear in her fifth book, “Wishful
Drinking,” which is based on her one-woman stage show
of the same name. On Wednesday, she came early to the TODAY
show and stayed late, regaling both Matt Lauer and Al Roker
with stories from a life as chaotic as any Hollywood has
ever produced — on-screen or off.
Among her revelations: If she’d known “Star
Wars” was going to be such a giga-hit, she never would
have signed on for the role of Princess Leia; she’s
a bipolar disorder sufferer who found relief in electroconvulsive
therapy; and when she started doing LSD and other drugs,
her parents got Cary Grant to counsel her to stop doing it.

This
Old Death Star...
Intergalactic renovations are not yet a popular
television show, but we're sure Norm Abram or Ty Pennington
would have loved to get their chance to weigh in on the Star
Wars Transformers Darth Vader Death Star. You know, if they
are toy collectors, which we're assuming they are for the sake
of this particular news story. (Mr. Abram did appear on a highly
memorable episode of Freakazoid. But we digress.)
In mere minutes, this large, transforming robot
can go from the crown jewel in the Empire's navy to one of
the most famous Sith Lords ever to inhabit the galaxy. This
amazing toy includes a cloth cape, a firing rocket, tiny TIE
Fighters, miniature action figures, and of course, a nice big
red lightsaber. He has a lot of nifty electronic features,
too. As toys go, he has few equals! Rarely will you see a transforming
toy this tricked out, and when you consider that it's based
on Darth Vader, it's safe to assume that this will make a fantastic
gift this holiday season.
The Music of John Williams will be at the Dallas
Symphony Orchestra on April 10-11. Richard Kaufman conducts
an epic musical adventure with the DSO featuring music from
your big-screen favorites, including Star Wars, Raiders of
the Lost Ark and many more. Tickets on Sale now. Check out www.dallassymphony.com for
more info and tickets.

Star
Wars MMO to be 'Microtransaction-based,' Says EA!
Publisher Electronic Arts today classified
BioWare's upcoming Star Wars MMO The Old Republic as a "microtransaction-based" title,
indicating that the game will include alternative financial
models other than a subscription fee.
"We are continuing to stick to the plan relative to
building out our direct-to-consumer models which include
microtransactions and subscriptions," said EA CEO John
Riccitiello in a conference call today. "The recent
launch of Warhammer [Online] is a great example of that."
"Other initiatives we've announced, for example [the]
Star Wars online MMO, are mid-session games which are microtransaction-based," he
continued. "You'll be hearing more about those in the
February [conference] call."
After a long and arduous journey, Fanboys
will be released next year and the official website has now
been launched, where you can see the trailer, read a brief
synopsis of the movie as well as cast and crew bios and see
some stills from the film in the photo gallery.
As someone who saw a rough cut of Fanboys at Celebration
Europe last year, I can say with every confidence that this
is a movie that you are going to love!
eFX
(Finally) Reveals X-Wing Model Pre-Order Surprise!
You’ve debated it on the forums,
and discussed it with your friends! And now, at last, eFX
is pleased to reveal the “secret” behind the
Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing Starfighter “Red Five” FX
Model, launching December 11, 2008.
Anyone who pre-orders the eFX Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing
Starfighter “Red Five” FX model between December
11th, 2008 and December 21st, 2008 will receive “at
no additional cost” a special plaque, signed by Luke
Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill! You read that right! At NO
additional cost! Mr. Hamill will only sign enough plaques
to accompany the pre-orders and the Signature Plaque will
NOT be available again, even at an additional cost!
So, there you have it, the debate is over! (Those of you
who guessed Mark Hamill’s signature can now pat yourselves
on the back and give your friends a healthy “I told
you so!”) This is an extremely limited time offer,
so don’t miss your chance to get eFX’s very first
signature edition - the special Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing
Starfighter “Red Five” FX model - Mark Hamill
Signature Edition!
I didn't walk into my interview with Sir David
Hare, one of the world's greatest living playwrights (and
the screenwriter of THE READER), looking for a STAR WARS
scoop. But that's what I got when I decided to wrap up our
chat with a seemingly innocuous question about his having
directed an installment of THE YOUNG INDIANA JONES CHRONICLES
("Paris"). Okay, maybe I led him a little...
Seriously, all I expected to learn was that he had been
asked to do an uncredited polish on one or two of the STAR
WARS prequels (as his friend Tom Stoppard reportedly did
for REVENGE OF THE SITH). Here's what I got instead:
Mr. Beaks: One last thing I wanted to touch on: you directed
an episode of THE YOUNG INDIANA JONES CHRONICLES.
David Hare: You're very good, aren't you? You really are
good! Nobody has ever asked me this question. Ever.
Beaks: I didn't realize you'd done one until I saw it
there on the IMDb. I would've never put this together otherwise.
How did that opportunity come along? And did you ever...
because Tom Stoppard has done some rewriting for George Lucas
over the years. Did Lucas ever come to you and--
Hare: Do you want a real scoop?
Beaks: Sure! Why not?
Hare: I was asked to co-direct STAR WARS IV.
Beaks: The fourth, so that's--
Hare: The fourth STAR WARS. And I was asked to write the
fifth and sixth, but I didn't.
Beaks: So you were asked to co-direct THE PHANTOM MENACE?
Hare: Whichever one got the series going again, that's
the one. George said would I co-direct it with him. I would
direct the actors, and he would direct the action. So you
have a scoop. (Laughs) Nobody has ever asked me that question....
'Tis the season for giving... an animated Boba Fett lapel
pin! Order now to ensure delivery before Christmas!
Washington DC Metro Area Star Wars Collecting Club (DCSWCC)
has inventoried and verified the last of their third bi-annual
charity lapel pin and updated their store.
First announced during Memorial Day weekend, the 2008 pin
features animated Boba Fett with DCSWCC's signature Washington
Monument as his rocket, in honor of the 30th anniversary of
his appearance in The Star Wars Holiday Special. Third in DCSWCC's
series of high-quality cloisonne lapel pins, officially sanctioned
by Lucasfilm Ltd., each pin is individually stamped and numbered
on the back. Only 1000 were made.
All proceeds from the sales of this pin benefit the Aluminum
Cans for Burned Children Program, whose mission is to prevent
burns and improve the quality of life for young burn survivors
and their families in the Mid-Atlantic region. DCSWCC has a
rich history of supporting children's charities in the Washington
DC region. Their previous charity pins featured Yoda and Chewbacca,
and raised almost $10,000 for DC Children's Hospital and The
Children's Inn at NIH.
The X-Wing will be going up for pre-order
on Thursday 12/11/2008 at 9:00 am Pacific Time. All of the
details are now listed on www.efxcollectibles.com,
including a FAQ and payment plan details. Be sure to place

Bred and trained on the oceanic outlying place of Kamino,
the unflinching loyal clone troopers are born to serve the
Republic. Despite sharing identical genes, a clone trooper
often fosters a greater sense of identity by giving himself
a name, a stylized haircut or even the occasional tattoo. While
a clone's role may not seem a enviable one, the hardships of

YN:
Holiday Shopper’s Guide!
It’s that time of year already. Weekend and evening
commutes are jammed by throngs of shoppers bustling from
store to store. E-tailers and brick-and-mortar stores compete
for consumer dollars with a barrage of ever-changing sales
and specials. The pre-adolescent chants of “I want!
I want!” fill the air, followed closely by the exasperated
sighs and moans of beleaguered parents straddling the line
between making their children happy and teaching them the
value of a dollar.
Oh yes, it truly is “the most wonderful time of the
year”…
Sadly this year, domestic and global events are forcing
us to tighten our holiday budgets in favor of the necessities.
Home heating and two weeks of groceries will fill some homes
instead of a spiffy new HDTV and foundation-rocking 7.1 channel
sound system. For a good number of people, this will be a
very frugal Christmas.
To help our readers shop for the Star Wars collectors in
their lives (or even themselves), Yodasnews is happy to lend
a helping hand with our first Holiday Shopper’s Guide.
In here, you will find a couple ideas for small stocking
stuffers as well as some unbelievable deals on otherwise
expensive or out-of-production collectibles. There are a
few ideas for some reasonably priced Christmas gifts, and
there are several higher-end suggestions for more serious
and mature collectors. Many of these items have been hand-selected
from our review archives, so links to those reviews are included
to give you a closer look at the potential presents.
We hope you find this guide helpful and enjoyable.
Happy Holidays from all of us at Yodasnews.com!!
UPDATED 12/9 with some great deals at Andrew's
Toyz as well!

eFX
- X-Wing Sneak Peek - Full Article and Images!
One of the nicest things about being the
Yodasnews administrator and one of its senior staff members
is that very special opportunities come our way every once
in a while. It is even nicer when we can share those opportunities
with our readers in some manner. Today, we get to share a
truly exciting experience with you.
On Thursday morning, a large package arrived courtesy of
FedEx. "Large" actually doesn't quite describe
it. "Colossal" would be a better description. Underneath
many thick layers of protective padding waited the prototype
of eFX Collectibles' first studio scale FX model replica—the "Red
Five" version of the X-Wing Starfighter. Only two prototypes
are currently making the rounds. One is currently at Lucasfilm
awaiting approval, and the other is making the rounds through
various fan sites. By the time you read this, it will be
on its way to another.
Since this is a prototype,
any observations should not be construed as an official review.
Instead, look at them as
a detailed sneak preview of what the final product will be
at minimum. We're saying "at minimum" because eFX's
track record thus far shows that the final version will undoubtedly
be even more impressive than the prototype. Click the images
below to check out all the images and more...

As revealed by Dark Horse Senior Editor and Vice-President
of Publishing Randy Stradley in this month’s edition
of MYSPACING COMICS, Dark Horse is bringing back its popular
Star Wars series “Dark Times,” first on MySpace
Dark Horse Presents for a two-issue arc in January and February,
and then as a print miniseries in April, the third since
the title debuted in 2006.
What long-time fans of the Star Wars universe should
be most excited about is the fact the third series is subtitled “Blue
Harvest,” which for Nabooan neophytes was the working
title of what became “Star Wars Episode VI: Return
of the Jedi.”

Just as the holiday season ramped up into
full gear, a very special package landed on our doorstep
yesterday—a
one-day in-hand glimpse at the highly anticipated eFX Collectibles
X-Wing Starfighter studio scale replica!!
Since this was a limited time opportunity, the dedicated
staff here at Yodasnews has been working around the clock
to produce a very thorough photo record of this AMAZING piece
for our readers. We'll be visually covering everything from
the detailed cockpit and the engines to the light-up R2-D2
unit. eFX was even gracious enough to give us a look at the
prototype prop story for this replica, and we've mined some
informational gems from there as well.
Check back tomorrow night for the full set of images, but,
in the meantime, enjoy these sneak peek images (click them
to see the full size pictures)
Don't forget that the Obi-Wan Kenobi - Jedi Knight - Episode
II 12" Figure goes up for preorder tomorrow at 10 a.m.
PT. The exclusive comes with a Kamino dart and the edition
is a paltry 1,000 only.
Some fine collectibles over at Sideshow get sized up:
George Lucas ventured down to Hollywood from his empire
at Skywalker Ranch to present the American Cinematheque's
23rd
annual award to one of his favorite Jedis, Samuel L. Jackson,
and ComingSoon.net intercepted the man behind some of pop culture's
most iconic mythologies. Lucas gave up a handful of plans that
were not quite as secret as the plans to the Death Star, including
his intentions for a fifth "Indiana Jones" adventure,
and 3-D-ifying the classic "Star Wars" films.
ComingSoon.net: You had huge success this summer with "Indiana
Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." Are you seriously
thinking about another one? Harrison Ford's said there may
be plans afoot.
George Lucas: Yes - we're looking for a "MacGuffin," which
is an object that he goes after. They're very hard to come
by!
CS: Would you want to keep the whole family together for a
film - Indy, Marion and Mutt?
Lucas: It really depends on what it is Indy goes looking
for and then how the story falls out of that, and
then how convenient
or inconvenient to have the group there.
CS: A while back when we spoke you were planning to take
the six "Star Wars" films and put them into a 3D
format. Is that still something you're working towards?
Lucas: Oh yeah. The technology is very difficult. It exists
- it's just extremely expensive, and so what we're trying
to do is figure out a more practical way of pulling
it off.
CS: You're here
in L.A. to pay tribute to Samuel L. Jackson. Of
all the actors in Hollywood who would've killed
to lobby
you for a part in the "Star Wars" prequels, why was
Sam an actor that you felt fit your plans enough to bring into "Star
Wars"?
Lucas: To be honest, he's the only one who asked,
actually. He didn't really lobby for it.
He was on a talk show and someone
asked him what movie he would've liked to be in or that he
would like to be in that he hadn't been in and he said "Star
Wars." So I called him up and said "Is that true?
Do you really want to be in 'Star Wars'?" He said "Yeah
- as long as I'm a Jedi," and I said "Well, I have
a little tiny role, but it grows if you're willing to do the
three movies." He said "I'm in." It was just
like that. He didn't look at it like "This is a chance
to make a whole bunch of money, a chance to do a big thing." He
just did what was asked of him and tried to make it as good
as he possibly could.

The Star Wars goods keep coming for the Force Unleashed, and
today's newest content brings a lot of stuff to keep you hanging
on to the game. Star Wars freaks (me included) will find it
hard to resist. LucasArts has released the first single-player
downloadable mission for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (PS3*
, Xbox 360). The new single-player expansion takes place in
the Jedi Temple.
The announcement from LucasArts states: "The Secret
Apprentice travels to the Jedi Temple to learn more about
his father,
and while searching through the rubble of the destroyed building
he must confront his inner demons."
The single-player mission includes nine new skins for you
to play Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. There's even more characters
in a second stand-alone costume pack, also released today.
This brings the total downloadable skins to 29! Not only great
to look at, but also great for going back and getting some
of those achievements like Force Lightning Mastery (using C-3PO
to electrocute some Jawas should be fun).
Amy
and the team at eFX have announced how you can win a Prototype
X-Wing, and help a great cause at the same time, check

Star
Wars Action News Update
Thanksgiving Turkey. Family gatherings. Egg Nog. Hard to
find Target exclusives. Yes, the last item on the list has
become part of the holiday tradition first with the Imperial
Shuttle, then the AT-ST and Turret Ultimate Battle Packs,
and now with the Battle of Christophis battle pack. Sure,
it's no surprise to us collectors, but that makes things
even more frustrating. Listen as Marjorie and Arnie go shopping
on Chartrouse Wednesday and Black Friday trying to hunt down
the Battle of Christophis, and its sibling Ultimate Battle
Pack, the Pit of Carkoon.
Also this week we get an update on the latest Star Wars
Minis, including exclusive minis, how to get some needed
troop builders, and running down the most recent and easest
to collect minis set yet.
With your voicemails telling what the latest waves of figures
you're finding, details on an R2 aquarium, information how
to maximize your Toys For Tots donation, and a discussion
of tiny nuts, it's all on the latest episode of Star Wars
Action News!
Back in the 1990s, the Topps Company dazzled
Star Wars enthusiasts with a trio of celebrated trading card
sets called the Star Wars Galaxy. These series provided an
illustrative, rather than photographic, overview of George
Lucas' seminal brainchild. Each showcased art used in the production
of the three original movies, art used for their promotion
and merchandising, and finally breathtaking, newly-commissioned
art inspired by the films themselves. This last and most fanciful
gallery, entitled "New Visions," enabled illustrators
from both the comic book and mainstream venues to lose themselves
in imaginative bliss, dreaming up concepts and characters from
Lucas' fantasy universe that never were, but easily could have
been.
Since
its birth 25 years ago, LucasArts has secured a place in video
game history through storytelling and innovative technology.
Say what you will about its current works, but it's undeniable
that their Star Wars and Battlefront II games generated not
only legions of followers, but awe-inspiring fun.
So it stands to reason that their illustrious history should
be captured by a compilation titled, Rogue Leaders: The Story
of LucasArts.
Written by Rob Smith, it follows via "never before published
interviews," and 300 pieces of "concept art, character
development sketches, and storyboards".
And it's quite comprehensive too, with Monkey Island to Star
Wars to LEGO games being covered in this publication by Chronicle
Books.
WASHINGTON

following
Obama's Nov. 4 victory over Republican John McCain, according

Review:
Darth Vader vs. Luke Skywalker!
In an age where summer blockbusters incur
ever-increasing budgets and Star Wars itself has become an
indelible part of modern global pop culture, it may seem
unimaginable that there was a time where A New Hope was in
danger of never being made because no one knew how much it
would cost. Despite a keen interest in the script,
Twentieth Century Fox (the only studio to express any faith
in the story) was not going to green-light their option without
a realistic budget proposal in hand. Of course, George
Lucas and his colleagues could not provide that information
without having a tangible idea of how Star Wars would look. Someone
needed to pull the story off the pages and into full-fledged
illustrated life for the very first time.
That “someone” was conceptual
artist Ralph McQuarrie.
Working under Lucas’ mandate to
paint what he’d like to see on screen and ignore the
how and how much, McQuarrie produced a series of paintings
that became the film’s visual pitch to Fox executives. What
came after that is history.
Among those first paintings was McQuarrie’s
depiction of an encounter between Darth Vader and hero Deak
Starkiller (eventually revised into Luke Skywalker), lightsabers
drawn and both wear breathing apparatuses. Dubbed “Laser
Duel” by its artist, it is one of the most iconic concept
paintings in the entire Star Wars saga. In celebration
of A New Hope’s 30th anniversary, Kotobukiya commemorated
the event by bringing this painting to three-dimensional
life as the (coincidentally) 30th entry in their Star Wars
ArtFX line. This model is unique in that it is the
first time Kotobukiya delved into concept art for one of
their products. In fact, it may even be the first time
a Star Wars licensee crafted a larger-scale concept art sculpture. Another
unique aspect is that it is the first ArtFX model to have
a strict edition size, which was divided up among various
regions across the globe. This particular sample is
1707 of the 3,030 available to North America.
Adapting a single painting
into three-dimensional form can be a daunting challenge,
but Kotobukiya’s artisans were determined to do it. Today’s
review of the Conceptual Darth Vader vs. Luke Skywalker vinyl
model will examine whether or not their gamble was a success.
