Do
Not Sell Until March 5th? UPDATE!
YN reader Jaret Twist of Tulsa reports in:
Just wanted to put my two cents in about what
Will reported in about his Wal-Mart not selling to him. I got
all excited when I saw the report that Scott in Tulsa found the
Vintage Deleted Scene Wave. I was more excited he found them and
not for the $4.00 a piece deal he got. I also live in Tulsa and
usually out and about myself but we have 3 Wal-Marts in the immediate
area and 7 in the surrounding area. Friday I hit two of Wal-Marts
with nothing to be found. On Saturday I hit 4 Wal-Marts. The first
Wal-Mart someone just picked up the last Colonel Cracken and Mon
Calamari Rebel Pilot.
I was starting late so my last Wal-Mart I stopped
at was at 7:30pm. No one finds anything at this time on a Saturday
but behold there was the whole case placed on the pegs. Of course
I went to the scanner to see how much and told me it was not in
the system. At first I was like oh no because I have had heard
horror reports that when not in the system Wal-Mart will not sell.
Well I also had three buy one get one free coupons from the Star
Wars promotion that Hasbro put in a month or so back. I went to
the cashier and none were in the system except the Quinlan Vos
I was picking up. There was a line growing behind me and we all
know Wal-Mart shoppers get impatient. So I asked if I could just
go to customer service and try my luck there. For a second I thought
of just going out the door with the prize but I knew that would
be wrong. So I took to customer service and the only one that
would ring up was Quinlan Vos.
At first the cashier was just going to price
point as Quinlan Vos until the other cashier chimed in stating
someone got in trouble for doing what she was doing and that she
will need to call the manager and may not be able to sell these
to me. As everyone else in the same boat I was going to put a
fight up with these. I mean if they are on the pegs then you need
to sell them. The manager came over and at first was thinking
about not selling but then gave the okay to price point as Quinlan
Vos. So to make a long story short my receipt says I bought 6
Quinlan Vos at $8.96 each. But with three coupons I received 3
figures free! I hope to never go through what Will went through
and hope I never do. I am not sure how I would react to poor business
sense on Wal-Marts fault for not selling merchandise that may
have been put on the floor before its time.

Rejected Star Wars Strikes Back!
AFI
posted an awesome article on rejected promotions for the launch
of Star Wars: Episode One, The Phantom Menace, sample below:
Well, that turned out to be a bit longer than
I had planned on. It’s been four long years since my last
look at the “rejected” concepts that my former co-workers
and I came up with when we were working on promotions for the
launch of Star Wars: Episode One, The Phantom Menace. And it has
easily been the most read article we’ve had here at AFi,
bouncing around everywhere from Boing Boing and Gizmodo to the
official Star Wars blog and Wired, culminating in an interview
with NPR about how it all went down.
But the concepts I showed were only a handful of the ideas
that we developed. Admittedly, I cherry-picked the best concepts
for that first blog; what I feature down below may cause you to
roll your eyes a few times. But let me back up and recap the assignment:
I was working for a promotional merchandise company when we got
the chance to pitch ideas for a few items that would be made to
tie-in to Pepsi’s big Episode One promotions....

Do
Not Sell Until March 5th?
YN reader Will reports in - if you have had a similar
experience. Please let us know. Thanks a lot for sharing Will,
we appreciate it (and the support of the site).
I am a true fan of yodasnews.com. I get all
my star wars news exclusively from you. I read your story about
the new vintage style figures showing up at wal-mart and finally
found them tonight. The store refused to sell them to me because
they were not in the system yet. I fought with the manager for
about 20 minutes and he still refused to sell the figures to me.
I tried to record what he said to me on my camera phone, but he
walked away and refused to deal with me anymore. I met another
employee who wanted to help me understand why they would not sell
them to me and she scanned the case and said they are not supposed
to be stocked or put in the system until March 5,2012. Bottom
line is I had a complete set of case fresh unpunched figures in
my hands and they made me put them back in to a case and took
them to the back of the store and I left empty handed and heartbroken.
The manager was a jerk and I have never encountered
this before ANYWHERE while collecting, and I have purchased case
fresh new vintage style figures from this same store many times
in the past. This is infuriating and I wanted to let you know
what I experienced and hopefully you might be able to warn people
about this and let the collectors know that March 5 is the day
these figures are supposed to go in the store system. Thanks for
taking the time to read this and thanks for keeping me informed
about star wars everyday.

Deleted Scene Figs for the WM Clearance Price of $4?
Scott from Tulsa reports in:
WM started to stock these overnight but they
were not in the system yet so they gave them to me for the price
of the other figure (a $4 Nikto Jedi) that I was picking up. This
was done by the overnight supervisor and not the cashier. Get
to it before they do a system wide download with this Vintage
Wave 1.5
And then reports back again later in the day...
Deleted figs are still not in WM system. Went
to a different WM than last night (early this AM) and took up
3 Deleted Scene figs and one Rebel Commando and cashier gave them
all to me for the $4 Commando price. Hurry to your WM now before
they get the prices updated
Thanks Scott! We are off to Wal-Mart!

This is fantastic! As you can see, someone converted
a Volkswagen bus into an Imperial Walker from Star Wars. VW should
have ditched the Star Wars dog Super Bowl commercials this year,
and done something incredibly cool like this. All cars should
get a fully functional imperial walker conversion... the world
would be a better place.
Super7 is proud to announce a new series of Star
Wars Designer T-Shirts! The first three releases (Star Wars Arcade,
AT-AT Boombox & Camo Walker) will be available Thursday, March
1st.
Created in conjunction with Mighty Fine and officially licensed
from our good friends at Lucasfilm, each of these shirts feature
original graphics by Super7 founder Brian Flynn. Combining our
love of the Star Wars saga with a classy design aesthetic, we
hope that the fans enjoy these shirts as much as we enjoyed making
them!
The Star Wars x Super7 Arcade Designer T-Shirt features a graphic
recreation of the 1983 arcade classic from Atari. Vectors of vectors!
The Star Wars x Super7 AT-AT Boombox Designer T-Shirt features
the combination of an All Terrain Armored Transport with an old
school Ghetto Blaster. Turn up the volume and march to the imperial
beat! The Star Wars x Super7 Camo Walker Designer T-Shirt features
a stylish AT-ST Walker with a camouflage pattern of the forest
of Endor (complete with speeder bike silhouettes) contained within.
All three Star Wars x Super7 Designer T-Shirts are hand-screened
on high-quality 100% cotton shirts, available in men's sizes Small
to 2X-Large. Each Designer T-Shirt retails for $25 and can be
ordered online at www.super7store.com.

Right now, Target is running a sale on Ultimate
FX Lightsabers, they’re $29.99 (regularly $34.99). Target
also has some online Star Wars coupons at
this link
There’s an $8 off the Ultimate FX Lightsaber
coupon as well as a $5 off a $19.99 or higher Star Wars purchase.
I don’t know if Target would allow you to stack those coupons
since they are both from Target, but since one is specific to
the saber and one is a general discount, they might. With the
sale and coupons you should at least be able to take home one
Ultimate FX for under $24 if not under $19.
The $8 coupon is good until 2/25 and the $5
coupon is good until 3/24. I think you can only print one coupon
per computer.

Back in December 2011, we received an intercepted
transmission that Lucas Licensing was planning on using Yoda as
the follow up to the Darth Maul brand look for licensed merchandise
in 2013. Today, we can confirm that is in fact true. As you can
see, the packaging uses a sweeping black/green theme and utilizes
design cues and textures found on Geonosis.Expect to see an official
reveal of this look in the next few weeks.
According to BoxOfficeMojo.com,
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace has a total Total Lifetime
Gross of $969,188,790 and is just 5 million away from taking over
the 11th spot on the All Time Box Office Worldwide Grosses (Harry
Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is currently in 11th with $974.8)
But will it break the Top 10? It should.
It is doing about a million dollars a day each weekday
(domestic) and you can plan on it doing another $20-$25 million
this weekend (worldwide) at least, so it is possible that it will
break the billion dollar mark by Sunday or Monday.
The shows are still selling out before the weekends
arrive at some locations, so grab your tickets at Fandago.com
before you go. They recently announced they are now Ticketing
to All AMC Theatres so you'll be sure to find one near you. You
can also get 20% off $25 in movie tickets when you use your Visa
Signature card. Click

No Hasbro Presentation...
In an odd twist, Hasbro has decided to NOT release
the Collector Event Slideshows to the public (like they have the
last 4 years). No reason was given and considering this year several
of the sideshows (including Marvel and GI Joe) were rushed and
clicked by so fast because of how long the Transformers and HUB
sections were, this was the one year we really wish we had it
to look at. With all the fan sites posting about it, maybe we
will get some version of it at a later date.

newspost on each one, but check out hundreds of more pictures
from Transformers, Halo, Marvel, Mattel and many more at our
other galleries below.

anything Star Wars related around the Diamond booth. They had
plenty of new Star Wars "banks" in sketch form but they didn't
allow any pictures but it's clear they plan to make a LOT more

all knew he was coming at some point, but it was nice to see he
is coming SOON!

For most Star Wars geeks, TIE Fighters and X-Wing Fighters
are cool enough on their own. The AMP'D series of toys, however,
gives kids a way to take a Darth Vader's Tie Fighter and use additional
parts and covert it into whatever vehicle their imagination can
conceive.

2012 Premier Guild Memberships Sneak Previews!
Gentle Giant
LTD sent out a newsletter blast last night highlighting 2012
Premier Guild Memberships Offerings, check out the Star Wars related
ones below:
Republic
Commando Mini Bust with Light-Up Visor - Elite soldiers
of the Grand Army of the Republic, the Clone Commandos were crafted
by the Kaminoans for war. Based off of the genetic template of
the infamous bounty hunter Jango Fett and indoctrinated into the
Mandalorian culture, Republic Commandos worked in highly coordinated
teams of four operatives, each with their own individual specialties,
to complete missions with objectives too complex for the average
Clone Trooper, or requiring more firepower than the average ARC
Trooper can muster. When Order 66 was issued, the Republic Commandos’
objective turned from defending the Republic to hunting down and
executing the Jedi, a task they completed with ruthless efficiency.
Soon after the fall of the Republic, the surviving units from
the Clone Wars were rechristened Imperial Commandos.
Rebel
Fleet Trooper- Loyal soldiers of the Alliance Navy, Rebel Fleet Troopers
serve on ships large and small throughout the galaxy. In spite
of the incredible odds they face in taking on the evil Galactic
Empire, their unwavering devotion to the Rebellion gives them
the inner strength and will to do whatever it takes to win the
war, even if it means sacrificing their own lives. Hand crafted
and rendered at 1/6th scale in high-quality polystone, this mini
bust was created using digital scans of authentic costumes and
the DH-17 blaster to ensure the utmost accuracy.
Gamorrean
Guard Kenner 12' Figure - Just like they were when
you were a kid, only BIGGER! Gentle Giant continues on with their
new line of vintage Star Wars action figure reproductions with
the release of the Gamorrean Guard! Digitally scanned from mint
3 3/4” Kenner originals and reproduced in scale to the rest
of the jumbo Kenner line. Nothing has been overlooked. Roto and
injection molded and made of durable plastics, this fully-articulated
jumbo figure includes a faithfully reproduced blaster. That’s
not all, this classic Kenner creation comes packaged on a 1983
Return of the Jedi-inspired blister card, featuring original artwork,
in a re-sealable plastic outer clam shell to help protect and
display!

That's
Brisk, Baby!
Brisk Iced Tea hit a major milestone yesterday when
they reached one million Brisksaber
app downloads. The Brisksaber
app launched on January 4, kicking off a partnership with
Star Wars as they release Episode I: The Phantom Menace in 3-D.
To celebrate, Brisk will unlock new characters
and sabers in the Brisksaber app. Starting today, Yoda will be
featured as a boss, just as Mace Windu is now on the Dark Side
(see below). Additionally, three Easter Eggs, which can be found
in the :30 TV-spot will unlock Jabba, Brisksaber, and Yoda's lightsaber.
George Lucas has finally come out and addressed the controversial
"Han Shot First" Star Wars issue, only he claims that
Han NEVER shot first. That's right, apparently in the original
cut of the Star Wars film, which has since been changed, Greedo
shot at Han first. Apparently the scene just wasn't clear to audiences
over all these years so he had to go in a make it clear, and make
us understand that Han Solo is not a cold-blooded killer.
The fact of the matter is Han did shoot first! Lucas obviously
hasn't watched the scene in question in a very long time because
it's quite clear to me who actually shot first. But just to humor
you here's how Lucas recently explained it in an interview with
THR.

With excitement for STAR WARS hitting a fever pitch in 2012
with the theatrical release of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom
Menace in immersive 3D, Hasbro is introducing two new STAR WARS
expressions called STAR WARS FIGHTER PODS and STAR WARS AMP’D.
With STAR WARS FIGHTER PODS, iconic STAR WARS characters get a
collectible new gaming twist featuring micro heroes and mega battles!
Players use FIGHTER PODS to knock down as many figures as
possible. Spin, Launch or Roll your Pod into battle…even
connect your Pods together or place your figures on top or inside
of them for extra “power”! More than 100 STAR WARS
FIGHTER PODS figures will be available in a unique new style from
all six STAR WARS films and The Clone Wars animated series—collect
them, set them up and knock them down in head-to-head battling
play!
In fall, kids can gear up for battle with STAR WARS AMP’D.
For the first time ever, kids will be able to quickly and easily
customize the most iconic STAR WARS vehicles and prepare them
for any mission: land, space, sea or air! In 2012, the line features
9 figures and 6 vehicles.
In just about 36 hours we should be bringing you
our first report from the Hasbro Event on Saturday at NYTF - Stay
Tuned!
While doing some sleuthing tonight, I discovered that a certain
big box store *cough* Walmart *cough* has possibly inadvertently
posted an image of the upcoming MTT Droid Carrier on their website.
If you head over to their Star Wars section and scroll through
the 3D images you’ll notice one of them is in fact the MTT.
You’ll also notice that the Battle Droids included in this
set are all upright, which conflicts with the reports that most
of them were in their collapsed/storage mode.

Book
of Sith: Secrets from the Dark Side Out Tomorrow
The black-and-red pyramid-shaped Sith case appears innocuous.
But with the touch of a button, the door of the case lifts, accompanied
by lights and Star Wars sound effects. The secrets within are
revealed—the Book of Sith slides into view.
The Sith have existed in the galaxy for centuries, lurking,
waiting for their chance to seize control. As various Sith Lords
emerged and rose to power, they recorded their thoughts, exploits,
and plots for Sith control of the galaxy. When they fell, their
knowledge vanished with them forever. Or so it seemed. . . .
Over the years, these writings were passed among numerous
Sith and Jedi, who added their comments to the pages. In his quest
for domination, Darth Sidious tracked down what remained of five
pivotal Sith texts written by his most powerful predecessors.
Then, drawing on the knowledge within the compiled pages, he wrote
a sixth text—his own manifesto. Together, these documents,
along with several collected objects associated with them, shed
light on the philosophy, achievements, and failures of the Sith
Order. For years, this collection remained hidden, existing as
legend only. But now all who are tempted may unlock the Book of
Sith and delve into the dark side. . . .

Fans from France, Belgium and Luxemburg may have recently
discovered a cool Episode I 3D-themed promotion overtaking their
local Quick restaurant – a promotion which earned a lot
of buzz last month with a sneak peek of a black-bunned “Dark
Vador Burger” (which doesn’t yet appear on the chain’s
French site – it will be offered exclusively in France between
March 2 – 5).
In addition to the Dark Burger and Jedi Burger currently
available between January 31 and March 1 in France (or to March
5 in Belgium and Luxemburg), there are several Episode I 3D toys
being offered in Quick “Magic Boxes”, the equivalent
of a Happy Meal box in the U.S. While the Magic Box toys are usually
reserved for younger children, older fans – ages 9-14 –
are eligible to receive some cool menu top box items, such as
light-up lightsaber key chains, glow-in-the-dark bracelets, buttons,
and iron-ons.
Check out the Magic Box prizes below, with the menu top box
premiums for older kids shown at the bottom (and if you’re
feeling adventurous and don’t mind doing a little navigating
around a French-language site, you can find the promotion’s
TV spot as well as pdf downloads of the Dark Burger and Jedi Burger
posters!)

Sideshow
Collectibles for offering such great prizes to kick off 2012
for us!
In 2012, Volkswagen followed up their wildly
successful "Vader kid" commercial by taking their viewers
all the way into the Star Wars universe, revisiting the infamous
cantina from Star Wars, Episode IV. In order to make that trip,
they needed to stop off at Tom Spina Designs to help fill their
Star Wars bar with creatures!
Lucasfilm was able to provide the production with some of
their prequel aliens, but our studio was called upon to recreate
masks, hands and sometimes bodies for the "hero" characters,
the recognizable aliens from the 1977 film.
The majority were created from scratch for the production.
For several, we utilized new molds/castings of existing sculpts
(such as Mosep and Djas Puhr), modifying them heavily for shape,
detail, fit, visibility and finishing everything with an eye for
the added detail today's HD sets will show, while still being
true to the original creatures from 1977.
Thanks Tom - Click
here to check out the images and stay tuned for more!
With Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
set to be re-released in theaters on February 10, 2012 in 3D,
Lucasfilm launched "Darth Maul Me" - a feature that
allows you to turn yourself into Darth Maul.
Considering we have a "No Sith Lord" rule at Screen
Rant, we decided to see what would happen if 25 popular movies
went to the dark side (and/or what would happen if Darth Maul
got a hold of a time machine and wanted to trade in his dual lightsaber
for a Hollywood career).
As you know, Yodasnews is celebrating its eighth
anniversary this month, so far we have kicked off 4 giveaways.
Last night, Tara W. from VA took home a Joe Corroney

Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace in 3D
opens in New Zealand next week, with some advance premiere screenings
taking place on Wednesday 8th, and a general release launching
on Thursday 9th February.
Last Sunday I was fortunate enough to be in the audience
of a press screening of this latest version of the first prequel
film, in the Premiere Theatre at The Letterman Digital Arts Center
(the combined home of Industrial Light & Magic, LucasArts,
and a number of Lucasfilm divisions) in San Francisco. Viewing
the film in the creative heart of the Lucasfilm Empire was a unique
privilege, but independent of that, I came out of the screening
very happy with the results, and somewhat eager to see the subsequent
films converted and released (I'm not a prequel-hater by any stretch,
but am very much looking forward to seeing the Original Trilogy
again in the large-screen format, this time in three-dimensions).
A large part of the marketing message surrounding this re-release,
and an important one to remember, is that it is not just an up-conversion
to 3D, but that for a generation of children (and a small selection
of adults), it is the first opportunity to see The Phantom Menace
on the big screen. In a number of press appearances, George Lucas
has emphasised that the conversion to 3D of the Star Wars films
is an artistic process, rather than a purely technical one, involving
many of the artists involved in crafting the original version.
Keep this in mind too, and don't pre-judge this theatrical version
based on other 2D-to-3D movie conversions from the last couple
of years.

With Phantom Menace returning to theaters, and
Clone Wars still going strong on TV, it looks like it’s
a good time – again – to be a Star Wars fan. And it
may get even better, as we now know that the long rumored live
action Star Wars TV series has a working title: Star Wars: Underworld.
Now, sure, you’ve been burned by the prequels. And
Lucasfilm doesn’t have the best track record in the world
for live action TV (see: Christmas special). But the idea of a
big budget Star Wars TV show on every week, with the same production
values as the movies – which is what producers have promised
is what, budgetarily, is holding up the show in the first place
– makes our midichlorian count go through the roof.
Other details that have come out over time? The show will
be set between Episode III and IV, as a group of mob bosses consolidate
their power, paralleling the rise of the Empire at the same time.
There’s also been plenty of rumors that bounty hunters will
be involved, which of course, leads us to one name: Boba Fett.
Seriously, is there any question whether this is a Boba Fett
series? Sure, he could be part of a sprawling cast, but given
the Star Wars Universe’s unerring focus on one character
at a time, there’s almost no way the Mandalorian won’t
be front and center in the series. He’s a fan favorite,
and even with an important role as, you know, every clone trooper
ever, he still holds an enigmatic place in Star Wars lore.
Granted, we like him that way, so there’s a certain
sense that maybe we DON’T want SW:U to be a Boba Fett spectacular.
But it’s either that, or a soap opera featuring a bunch
of Hutts, and that would be gross.

Volkswagen won the hearts of the viewing public
during last year's Super Bowl with a Star Wars-themed ad. This
year the automaker returns to the galaxy far, far away —
all the way to Tatooine.)
The German automaker isn’t giving much of anything
away about its spot, except for an online teaser to set the mood
and a few still photos of the eventual spot that looks as if it
was shot in the Mos Eisley cantina. The ad features the company’s
iconic Beetle, and that somehow winds up in the cantina. The set
was reproduced from the original set designs used in “A
New Hope.”
“The cantina was completely recreated. It had to be
rebuilt,” said Tim Mahoney, chief marketing officer of Volkswagen.
“It’s a nod to equity from the interest last year,”
Mahoney said, referring to the ad titled “The Force,”
which showed a tyke in a Darth Vader outfit stalking around his
suburban home attempting, unsuccessfully, to move objects with
his mastery of Jedi powers.
After almost giving up, the kid tries his luck on his dad’s
Jetta, which to his amazement starts. Cut to Dad, who is holding
the key fob, having punched the remote control “start”
button. The ad topped almost all critics’ lists and virtually
every user survey of favorite ads from last year's Super Bowl
broadcast.
“The Force” was also unusual in that Volkswagen
debuted the ad online days before the game, as the carmaker will
with the new spot. Most advertisers keep their ads secret until
game time. This year Volkswagen also has released a “teaser”
commercial that has dogs barking out the Star Wars theme.
