ACCURACY AND DESIGN ELEMENTS
This is a highly detailed, multi-layered lightsaber replica that pays more than lip service to the minutest of details. An excellent example is the pattern on the activator switch. Rather than a mere paint app or decal, you can feel every etched line as you lightly run your fingernail over the gold switch. The blade emitter is also well detailed with twelve shallow grooves encircling the main emitter. Additionally, the main handgrip on the hilt has the necessary rubbery feel to it. While I've never held the full size replica, I can easily imagine I would have an excellent grip on the hilt if this same material was used.
DURABILITY
While not the heftiest of the scaled lightsabers, it certainly isn't as fragile as Yoda or Count Dooku's sabers. The majority of the weight is centered toward the base of the hilt, which makes sense because it would give the user good leverage when wielding it (that is, of course, if this were a full-scale replica). There are no thin wiry pieces or substandard materials that would lend itself to easy breakage. The biggest potential trouble spot is the thin neck that connects the main hilt to the blade emitter.
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS
Obi-Wan Kenobi probably holds the record for most lightsaber replicas ever produced by Master Replicas. Episode II, Episode III, Episode IV, Episode IV as first built…well, you get the idea. If I had to choose only one of Obi-Wan's sabers, I would choose this one. Not that the other sabers are lacking (well…with one exception), but this is THE weapon used in the THE duel, and that in itself is its strongest selling point.
As for that one exception…the Obi-Wan Kenobi "As First Built By" convention exclusive is the one we all could do without. Basically, it's movie-inaccurate and only an artist perception of the weapon. This is the true "as first built" version of the Episode IV lightsaber.
One last sidenote: the display supports are set up in such a way that the saber points left instead of the typical right. Whether or not it was intentional for this reason, it nevertheless looks thematically appropriate when displayed with Anakin Skywalker's Episode III lightsaber on its left: the dueling weapons directly facing each other.
