Dr.Phil
vs A Star Wars Collector - Reminder!
Reminder this airs today. You can read the story right now on drphil.com and
you can click
here to find out what time and what channel the show
will be on.
This is a first for us, but set your Tvio, DVR or VCR for Dr.Phil
this Wednsday! Why, you ask? Because in this Wednsday's episode, Dr
Phil answers the call of a 25 year woman who is sick and tired of her
husband's habit. He has a collection of more than 6,000 Star Wars collectibles.
If you are reading this, you can probably relate in some way, so it
should be a good watch. They sent a camera crew to his home, so I'm
sure we will have plenty of shots of his collection. It will be interesting
to see what Dr.Phil has to say. Check local listings for times and
channel.
Speaking to NGamer magazine, Krome Studios representative Ed Tucker
stated that the Wii version of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will
feature five levels not found in other next-generation versions.
"On the Wii we have places where the story veers off and we go
and explore something, take the game in a different direction, like
the Jedi Temple level," Tucker said. "There are five levels
that aren't in the PS3 and 360 versions."
Unlike the other next-generation versions, The Force Unleashed on
Wii will not feature LucasArt's Digital Molecular Matter engine for
handling advanced physics. Krome Studios has instead implemented its
own custom physics engine.
The Wii version of The Force Unleashed will allow gamers to swing
their Wii Remote like a lightsaber and assume the role of Darth Vader's
apprentice. The game is expected to ship this spring.

Urban-Collector.com
Update!
Urban Collector
has added some cool new items as part of our February Pre-Orders. We've listed some of the new items below, but check out our site to see the complete list.
Senator John McCain's unsettling fondness for drawing comparisons
between politics and plots from Star Wars continued, as McCain offered
more succinct Jedi wisdom following his shocker victory over Mitt Romney
in the S.C. primary Saturday. McCain describes:
"I've defeated Darth Vader, and now must defeat the Emperor!
The Evil Empire will be destroyed! Just like when Luke Skywalker got
a green light saber when he completed his Jedi training, I've got one
of my own now! I will not cower like Jar-Jar or a Jawa before Jabba
the Hutt! We will destroy the Death Star with our own American Millenium
Falcon! The Force is with us!"
A perplexed Romney was remarked as saying "If I spent 6 years
in a VC bamboo cage, hell, I'd be seeing Wookies too."

TLE & Lucasfilm
sponsor
the Ride for Kids Charity 2008!
On May 4th, 2008, Motorcyclists from all around the North Carolina
will join forces in the annual effort to raise much needed funds through
the charitable RIDE FOR KIDS.
Supporting the efforts of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, The
Ride for Kids® works to find the cause of and cure for childhood
brain tumors. This Motorcyclist's program also serves as a educational
support program for patients, their families, and the medical community.
My friends from the local CBA motorcycle group and I took part last
year and helped contribute to our ride’s total of over $90,000.
Two thousand of those dollars were donated by friends and colleagues
who chose to sponsor me directly through the TLE BLOG and other donation
sites.
May is just around the corner. And this year, I have even more incentive
for people to help in the fund-raiser.
Lucasfilm Ltd has graciously decided to help the Ride for Kids and
the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation this year by joining forces with
Tommy Lee Edwards Illustration to produce a limited-edition lithograph.
These prints are limited to a mere 300 copies, all of which are signed
and numbered by me.
Sticking with the theme at hand, this full-color
exclusive print features a squad of (racing)Biker-Scouts taking a break
between
rides. The large
lithograph measures 30” x 15”, and is printed on an 80#
cold-press museum-quality cover stock.
A “sister-site” has been set-up and dedicated to this
fundraising endeavor. Visit it HERE
ALL profits from this print will be donated to the Ride for Kids
by on the day of the ride.
With every $30 donated to Ride for Kids through this website, you
will be sent the limited-edition STAR WARS lithograph via the USPS
sealed
in a high-quality tube.
This is your chance to own a piece of exclusive Star Wars artwork
and help raise money for such a worthy cause. You have between now
and
May 3rd to contribute.
Thanks so much for your support on this.
It really truly means a lot to me, RFK, and Lucasfilm.
Though they weren't originally released as a trilogy, the novels Labyrinth
of Evil, Revenge of the Sith, and Dark Lord form a natural story arc
that follows Anakin Skywalker's last days as hero of the galaxy and
transformation into Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith. Now the movie
adaption by Matt Stover and the two flanking tie-in novels by James
Luceno are being combined into a trade paperback format that collects
all the action, intrigue and drama of the three books into one. The
Dark Lord Trilogy is due out in August from Del Rey Books.

Star
Wars Action News Update
One of the great joys of collecting items like Hasbro and Gentle Giant
and Sideshow is that it truly seems never-ending. No sooner do you
think you finish with one line then another pops up. Such is certainly
the case right now with Hasbro figures; as most people are starting
to put their 2007 collections to bed, reports are coming in about the
first wave of 2008 figures being spotted at Wal Marts, including by
our own customizing expert Darth Kozy. Kozy sat down and tore open
his Wave 8 finds and recorded his thoughts on these newest of figures.
Of course sometimes you do hit a dry spell with no new action figures
to buy, and when that happens...well, Jakob is here to tell us what
he did in that situation.
All this and more on this week's Star Wars Action News.
There have been some new Star Wars additions to the GentleGiantCollectors.com Image
Gallery, this time around they add the amazing Darth Vader Statue with
Light Up Base, the Wizards Light Up Obi and a Pair of Guards! Check
them out below and don't forget to take part in the GGC
Most Wanted Voting and register all your Gentle Giant Items at
the GGC
Registry which has just been updated with a new feature where you
can download your complete registry in an excel document!

Two British brothers are planning to set up a ‘Star Wars'
themed church in Wales
Barney and Daniel Jones are huge fans of the sci-fi films and want
fellow devotees to be able to join them at the UK Church of the Jedi
in the village of Anglesey.
Services will include sermons on The Force, light sabre training,
and meditation techniques.
Barney said: "As children we always watched the ‘Star
Wars' films anyway. We noticed that there were a couple of sites
on the internet,
Jedi church sites.
"We printed off a couple of sermons and did a sermon in our
house for a couple of friends one night.
"My brother and I will wear the Jedi robes, the dark brown
robes... the congregation would be in black. Really to bring a sense
of unity
to the meetings."
Producer Bryan Burk talks about the making of Cloverfield and how
his early love for Star Wars and filmmaking as a whole influenced himself
and his friends -- producer J.J Abrams and director Matt Reeves --
to make a monster movie full of surprises.
Thanks a lot for throwing a big monkey-wrench into our work schedule.
All we've been talking about around the office is Cloverfield.
Welcome to our world! Literally, all we do is talk about Star Wars.
In fact, when we were doing "Lost" we used to refer to the
Sawyer character as Han Solo. There's no shortage of Star Wars love
in our universe.
Does that mean in the next season of "Lost" there will
be more Star Wars references for fans to catch?
But of course! What, are ya kidding me? That's like saying, are they
going to be on an island? [laughs]
If you need more proof that video games are reaching the same league
as movies these days, just take a look at Star Wars: The Force Unleashed,
the upcoming action game from LucasArts. The Force Unleashed will get
almost the same full treatment as a movie, given that it will be supported
by a wide variety of ancillary products, including a novel, action
figures, a miniatures line, a comic book, and more. However, at the
heart of all this is a game that will let you play as Darth Vader's
secret apprentice, a budding and powerful young Sith tasked with hunting
down the last of the Jedi knights. LucasArts finally unveiled the gameplay
to us recently, and this is looking like one of the most exciting--and
easily the most beautiful--Star Wars games ever.
The Force Unleashed will fill in a lost chapter in the Star Wars saga:
basically, what happens between Episode III and Episode IV? This is
a period when the Jedi were scattered and hunted down, the Galactic
Empire consolidated its hold on the galaxy, and apparently Darth Vader
was secretly grooming an apprentice to help him one day overthrow the
Emperor. You'll play as that apprentice and go on missions for Lord
Vader, but your existence must be kept a secret, so this will give
you an opportunity to battle rebels, Jedis, and any unlucky Imperials
who happen to get a glimpse of you. The developers consulted heavily
with George Lucas on the story and characters, to the point that what
happens in The Force Unleashed is now considered Star Wars canon.
Brian's Toys has received a huge shipment of 30th Anniversary figures
and GI Joe 25th Anniversary. Available now are complete sets of Star
Wars Wave 7.5 and Wave 8. Expanded Universe Wave 5 are also in stock.
Make sure to get ahold of a Master Replica Boba Fett Helmet Signature
Edition, an authentic replication of one of the best bounty hunters
in the galaxy, signed by the actor who portrayed him in the films!

It has been quite some time since we all huddled around the computer
with our refreshing cups of Aunt Beru’s famous blue milk and
dissected some Star Wars collectibles. I’ve spent these past
few months on sabbatical wherein I spent many hours and sleepless nights
studying various schools of thought on quantitative analysis, production
processes of Asian toy factories, and volumes of reference materials
spanning the past thirty years of Star Wars. Why? So that I can bring
you, my fellow Yodasnews readers, the best reviews possible!!!
The target on sale date has changed, the helmets are set to arrive
at Razor's the end of January/Early February so the new on sale date
will be sometime early in February. The reason for the delay is Razor's
wants to wait until they arrive in New York before the are put up
for sale. The on sale date will be posted at least one week prior
to the sale.
Razor's has confirmed they will be putting up 95 a day for 5 days
instead of all 475 in one day (25 will be held back for damage replacements,
promotion and giveaways).
The idea is to give collectors more opportunities to get the helmet.

...Fraser said that he learned a lot about 3-D technology during the
making of Journey 3D. Fraser even visited Lucasfilm and got a glimpse
of the efforts to turn the Star Wars movies into 3-D productions.
"I've actually seen 15 minutes of Darth Vader entering and capturing
[Princess] Leia," Fraser said. "The best part was that some
of the extras are running around, and they wore helmets and stuff,
and because it's in 3-D you see so much detail that you can see one
of the extras was wearing, like, a construction worker's helmet that
someone took a blowtorch to so that it melted to look different. It
was yellow on the inside and spray-painted on the outside. So it'll
have real charm going backwards to see that stuff."
Congrats to ILM & Skywalker Sound who were nominated for six Academy
Awards. For the third year in a row
ILM pulled in two of the three nomination spots with Transformers and
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Skywalker Sound also dominated
the sound nominations taking three of the five slots in Sound Editing
for their work on There Will Be Blood, Transformers and Ratatouille,
which also received another nomination in the Sound Mixing category.

When it comes to unauthorized Star Wars merchandise, three characters
have proven a consistent favorite among bootleggers: Darth Vader, R2-D2,
and the effusively fussy C-3PO.
It's not hard to see why -- all three are popular with fans, are
universally recognized, and relatively simple to depict. Unfortunately,
since bootleggers
bypass the official approval process designed to separate the junk
from the genuine, a few, uh, "interesting" pieces eventually
find their way into the marketplace...and into the collection of Steve
Sansweet.
Rummaging through the expanse of Sansweet's Rancho Obi-Wan, we found
a few rough gems we felt worthy of sharing, if for no other reason
than to poke a little good-natured fun at our favorite protocol droid,
C-3PO.
Sorry, Threepio, but you're an easy target. Besides, no one worries
about upsetting a droid.

Hasbro
Let Slip The AT-TE Toy and More...
PSWCS Member Sal did some investigation into this
video that was posted on CNN and here are his findings. Nice
work Sal, thanks for sharing with us:
15 seconds in you get a very good look. Then about 1:12 into it
a shot of the front. I took some screen shots then I took some measurements
using Photoshop from those screenshots.
Hulk hands are approximately 10 inches from bottom of wrist to
top of fist as shown in the video on the table. Knowing this measurement
enabled me to use the tool in photoshop to measure the rest.
In photoshop you can measure things even when they are in perspective
like this. Using the table, walls, and the chair as well, I can ascertain
that the AT-TE is at least 10 inches to 12 inches tall. Using that
mark, and cross-referencing the height of the AT-AT (actual-not toy)
(15.5M) against the AT-TE (actual) 5.02M, we ARE getting an AT-TE
close to scale.
Also using that mark for the height, can place the length of the
toy AT-TE at between 1.5 and 2 ft! As well again using these measurements,
it's at least 12 inches wide! That's right on the mark give or take
a small margin (within acceptance of true scale). The cannon measures
approx 2in "tall" from where it meets the body to the topside
of the cannon. Can't get a length of the cannon as there is no picture
to give me a reference for the toy. The body section is approx 4-4.5
inches tall, easily fitting clonetroopers! Which leaves us with 3.5-4
inches of space under the body. A close squeeze yes for clones to
walk underneath, but the point being it does appear they CAN be place
under it, yet fully upright!
Given all of these measurements, it appears we have an AT-TE toy
that is 80% (at worst) to 95% (at best) scale with the figures.
Fans attending the Jedi-Con in Düsseldorf, Germany from March
21st through 23rd will see the debut of an all-new Shadow Troopers
2-pack!
Outfitted with black and gray armor, blasters, a sinister red pauldron
and visors, this Shadow Trooper duo is as intimidating as they come.
Tubular packaging showcases the figures nicely, and will look right
at home next to the recent Order 66 series of two-packs.

never was. The video shows J.W. Rinzler as he talks about he trip to

YN: I really enjoyed the Target exclusive Hoth and Endor Battle
Packs
that came out this winter. They were an excellent mix of retooled and
repainted figures and vehicles and the excellent packaging makes
for
a
great display piece. I'm curious why didn't the Endor set come with
the Bunker from the mid-90's and will we see this format again -
preferably with Jabba's Skiff hovering over a diorama of the Sarlaac
pit?
H: We felt that the Speeder Bikes added the play value we were
looking for, so we decided to pass on the bunker in favor of that.
We simply could not afford to put it in without sacrificing the figure
quantity either. Based on the warm reception to these sets, we are
optimistic that we will be able to bring more out, but as always
is subject to costing, timing, and tooling availability to make it
work. The one you mention would make a great display, no doubt about
it, but would require a much larger tooling budget that we could
probably bear.
YN: Are there any plans in the coming months for Hasbro to release
play
sets? Something like the old sets, Cantina, Death Star and so forth?
Also, what is the word on the new Order 66? We have seen pictures
of
possible clones from these new set, so can you confirm them and when
can we expect them?
H: There are no plans to release any play sets. There will indeed
be a sequel to Order 66, comprised of six more sets that will be
exclusive for Target. We have tried to make most of the Jedi in this
series as new as possible, tooling up at least wholly new figure
and parts of others. The plan is to be on shelf the beginning of
April. Sets include #1: Obi-Wan Kenobi & Arc Trooper Commander
(red deco); #2: Anakin Skywalker & ARC Trooper (blue deco); #3
Tsui Choi (new figure) & BARC Trooper; #4 (Emperor Palpatine & Commander
Vill; #5 Luminara Unduli & AT-RT Driver; and #6 Master Sev (new
head sculpt) & ARC Trooper (yellow deco).
YN: The modern vintage line’s future uncertain mainly due
to costs at retail, and the fact that regular figures have caught
up to the quality of the modern vintage. Why not have a parallel
line like you did with TAC and saga legends? You can have equality
in figure quality, and this line can hose the vintage style cards,
this can
bring the entire vintage card back line to the market with parallel
pricing, or maybe a simply $1 more if justified by costs.
H: We have thought about this, but unfortunately there are several
key barriers to doing this that relate to retail and our own productivity,
including the figure count we would need to devote to this to keep
it fresh (which would pull from the main figure assortment). Also,
having vintage as a "permanent" figure stripe does not
meet with out need to have a very consistent, uniform line look at
retail. This strategy worked in Fall '04 when the line look was black & silver,
but this year and beyond it would not fit. We love vintage and the
great tie back to the roots of the line, and there are high odds
of it coming back again (and again), but there are just challenges
with resources and timing. We will get to it before too long, though.

12-Inch line is here, and it's a StarWarsShop exclusive!
The shock

following his battle with Palpatine in the Galactic Senate chamber.
They also accompany the Emperor on Mustafar to retrieve the scorched
body of his new apprentice.

series to launch this year. There are only 1,000 of the exclusive shock
troopers available worldwide, and they're all at StarWarsShop and Hyperspace

Like most projects developed under the Star Wars name, hard facts
about the plotline for the upcoming Star Wars live-action TV series
have been hard to come by. However, in a new interview with the Star
Wars Insider magazine, producer Rick McCallum reveals one big detail:
Boba Fett will be a part of the series.
It had already been revealed that the show will take place within
the 20 year gap in-between Revenge of the Sith and the original Star
Wars (A New Hope), but as to what characters would be featured in it,
all George Lucas had said was that it would not star any of the main
characters from the films. However, as it had been revealed that it
could feature peripheral characters from the film series, many fans
had speculated that the ever-popular Boba Fett would be a prime candidate.
Then last year, the first (and to this point only) promotional image
from the series, shown at Toy Fair, displayed Fett's iconic helmet,
which of course only fueled rumors he would be on the show.
McCallum clears up the rumors, telling Star Wars insider "The
series will be about brand new characters, a group of people we haven't
seen yet, except Boba Fett, who will be an instrumental part of it.
The series will also showcase other bounty hunters."

Twentieth Century Fox is using a viral campaign on Bore Me to launch
the new Family Guy DVD.
The DVD, 'Family Guy Presents Blue Harvest', retells the classic
Star Wars: A New Hope tale with thedysfunctional Griffin family portraying
various Star Wars characters,
including Peter as Han Solo and Stewie as Darth Vader.
The campaign, brokered by Carina Elliott at DBMgrid and Russ Watts
at Vizeum, runs exclusively on Bore
Me this week. The aim is to raise
awareness of the release by entertaining and engaging audiences using
a sponsored collection of funny Star Wars themed scenes and virals.
A 'Family Guy Presents Blue Harvest' branded MPP (Media Player Promotion)
page will also be used to raise awareness of the release.
Twentieth Century Fox has continued to invest in the viral arena.
In 2007, they ran a number of campaigns on Bore Me to promote various
cinema and DVD releases. For example, the cinema release of '28 Weeks
Later' was promoted using Bore Me's interactive viral ad platform,
the NanoSite.
Laura Elloway, Twentieth Century Fox, Senior Brand Manager said: "The
viral community and Family Guy audience go hand in hand. A perfectly
targeted audience, a wealth of the very best Star Wars related viral
videos the web has to offer and the ability to create entertaining
and engaging collections makes Bore Me the ideal destination to run
the campaign.
"Their audience pass on interesting material to their friends
and this translates into peer to peer recommendation, creating invaluable
word of mouth and, ultimately, increased sales."

to
Matthew
at AutomaticComics in
the UK, we have confirmed these ARE shipping and they are in hand in
the UK. Matthew has them and reports that they are a lot of fun, but
they seem to outweigh the wiimote making it a bit off balance.
Thanks Matthew, let's hope they hit the US as well.

Interview
with D. Karpyshyn!
Fan Force Portugal wrote in to let us know of yet another
great interview Fan Force Portugal was able to make.
This time, the known writer and screenwriter Drew Karpyshyn talks about
his bond with the Star Wars and the Dark Side of the Force. You can
check out the here:
There's no feeling quite like driving home and seeing a box on
your doorstep. Sometimes it's apprehension (what will the wife think?),
sometimes it's confusion (oh boy, what shipped again?), and sometimes
it's unbridled excitement (IT'S HERE! IT'S HERE! IT'S HERE!). But imagine
the crash from the "IT'S HERE!" high if you open a box expecting
to finish off your 30th Anniversary Hasbro collection thanks to an
order from HasbroToyShop.com and, instead, find a 3 year old Revenge
of the Sith figure? Arnie vents about this very occurrance this week
on Star Wars Action News.
Also this week, we are always looking for listener feedback as
to what you'd like more of on the show and what we've heard is "more
vintage." This show marks our first in a new monthly segment where
our own podcast enhancer Kevin (DarthGawth on the forums) reviews vintage
figures as he begins the daunting task of assembling a vintage carded
collection.
Finally this week, Lucasfilm issued a press release about what has
happened to the Master Replicas license. Hasbro will be taking over
the production of the Force F/X lightsabers and the other props are
falling to a newcomer to Star Wars--EFX. Marjorie and Arnie give their
take on this turn of events.
Urban Collector

According to a rumor at Gizmodo.com, the Star Wars LightSaber WiiMote
may be cancelled, read on below:
Although there has been no official confirmation
as of yet, it appears that Nintendo will not allow Lucas Arts to develop
a Wiimote Lightsaber because it is worried about injuries that may
result from "bat like" attachments. While I understand Nintendo's
predicament, they are going to have to stop changing our diapers sometime.
Just slap a warning on the thing and cover it in NERF or something.
In the meantime, interested parties could always settle for the wide
assortment of unlicensed products that will undoubtedly pop up.
