One-Man Star Wars Trilogy is coming to
New Brunswick, NJ!
Having
seen the Star Wars trilogy over 400 times, actor
Charles Ross decided to turn
his obsession into an homage to his favorite
sci-fi adventure. In a little over an hour,
he singlehandedly covers the entire story—all
of the characters, the action, special effects,
and even parts of John Williams’ majestic
score. This Off-Broadway hit has played to rave
reviews, with well over a thousand performances
worldwide. “Funnier than you could possibly
imagine.” —Spin Magazine
One-Man Star Wars Trilogy is the opening
performance for Hub City Carnivale,
a winter festival for the imagination at play
with 67 events in 30 days!! Opening festivties
include over 30 costumed Star Wars
characters provided by 501st Legion and The
Rebel Legion, free prizes, and more.
The 6pm performance is sold out. Tickets are
available for the 9pm performance.
Wizards of the Coast has decided
not to renew the Star Wars license with Lucasfilm.
We’ve had a long and fantastic run, but
with the economic downturn, we have made the
tough decision to discontinue our Star Wars
lines.
The license officially ends in May this
year, with WotC product available through August.
In the meantime, we have awesome new products
still coming your way. This week, we released
The Dark Times minis and Galaxy of Intrigue
RPG. We’ll have more coming with Masters
of the Force minis in April, which will have
some of your most favorite characters along
with rare creatures from the Dejarik Holochess
game that have never appeared in our game. We’ll
also release The Unknown Regions RPG in April,
which includes entirely new planets and mini-adventures
for each world.
We are finishing the line with a bang so
look for special programs at your local game
store to stock up on favorite sets before they
go into the vault. We will continue to support
our Star Wars forums on the Wizards Community
site so you can reach out and chat with us and
other fans.
While I know the news is disappointing,
we wanted to make this announcement as soon
as possible and thank you for being such great
fans. It’s been a fantastic ride with
the Star Wars community and working with Lucasfilm.
We hope you enjoy the next several months of
great products. You never know when we may circle
back again!

How Does 'Avatar' Stack Up
Against Past Box-Office Champs? With ticket
prices adjusted for inflation, 'Gone With the
Wind' and 'Star Wars' blow past the sci-fi blockbuster.
If there's one thing movie
fans have read repeatedly over the past 12 years,
it's that no film could ever approach the box-office
numbers of "Titanic." Now, "Avatar"
has pulled off the impossible and taken the
crown, with James Cameron overtaking, well,
James Cameron, grossing $1.858 billion worldwide.
But is the movie really #1?
" 'Avatar' actually has quite a long
ways to go in terms of actual tickets sold,"
explained Jeff Bock, box-office analyst at Exhibitor
Relations, a company that monitors theatrical
receipts and analysis. "Right now, with
adjusted grosses considered, 'Avatar' would
be at #25 domestically."
What's adjusted gross? Well, it's a box-office
statistic that plays more fairly with the blockbusters
of generations that came before us. And frankly,
"Avatar" fans, you should give a damn.
Here are the top-five films domestically,
when adjusted for inflation:
1. "Gone with the Wind," $1.485
billion
2. "Star Wars," $1.309 billion
3. "The Sound of Music," $1.046 billion
4. "E.T.," $1.042 billion
5. "The Ten Commandments," $962 million
Developer LucasArts and Sony
Online Entertainment have launched another content
update today for the massively-multiplayer Star
Wars Galaxies in tandem with a free-play offer

Siege". According to a press release from
LucasArts, the update features "...new,
massive invasion warfare scenarios in three

and account reactivation is automatic when the

the free-to-play period will receive a special

Star Wars: The Old Republic is poised to assume
the Star Wars MMORPG mantle in Spring of 2011,
fans of LucasArts' Star Wars Galaxies are still
getting some love.

Review:
Anakin Skywalker with Space Helmet!
Hasbro’s penchant
for double and triple-dipping (are we up to
octo-dipping yet?) on the same version of
core characters is nothing new, but this redux
of Clone Wars Anakin Skywalker may just have
one of the quickest turnaround times between
the original release and the inevitable version
2.0. Of course, this is “Space Suit
Anakin”, so technically it’s a
different version. Sure, whatever. Let’s
try to ignore the space suit part because
wearing a glass bubble on his head is not
going to keep Anakin—a human being—alive
in the cold vacuum of space. Not when the
rest of his “space suit” are his
standard cloth Jedi robes (seriously, even
for a cartoon, this is beyond ridiculous).
For the majority of this review, we are going
to cast aside the astro-accessories and assess
this figure for what it truly is: an updated
and much improved version of Anakin Skywalker
in his core look.

Avatar’s Technology Could Make 3-D Star Wars A Reality!
An article posted at AccessHollywood.com
stated that although George Lucas has yet to work in the new
3-D technology, with the success and achievements of “Avatar”,
that could help bring “Star Wars” to us in 3-D.
He was quoted as saying:
“We’ve been looking for years and years and
years of trying to take ‘Star Wars’ and put it
in 3-D,” “But, [the] technology hasn’t been
there. We’ve been struggling with it, but I think this
will be a new impetus to make that happen.”

Conan Sings A Star Wars Tune!
Check out "CoCo" slipping into a Star Wars-theme
parody “Morons.” (Thanks to Tom for the heads
up)
A lone desert planet sits in the foreground
with the vast blackness of space draped behind it when suddenly
a small cruiser flies by, running from an unseen aggressor. Within
moments, however, that aggressor reveals itself as its massive
triangular form consumes both your vision and imagination. It
is widely regarded as one of the most memorable and powerful opening
sequences in motion picture history.
Not to be outdone by its 1977 predecessor, Revenge of the Sith
boasts an awe-inspiring opening sequence of its own as a very
familiar shape fills the screen—albeit in an earlier form.
Bearing its red and yellow markings, the Venator-class Attack
Cruiser was the last capital ship to serve in the Republic Navy
because, by film’s end, it would strip its colors and become
the first Imperial Star Destroyer. Its transformation into a cold
gray goliath was a symbolic transition between freedom and tyranny,
Republic and Empire…Prequels and Original Trilogy.
Today’s review looks at the miniature die-cast Venator-class
Attack Cruiser. In fact, this review examines two versions: the
original Republic cruiser with the red and yellow markings and
the later plain gray Imperial incarnation (released a few assortments
later). It may seem strange to dredge up a 2006 product for an
in-depth review in 2010, but there is a specific reason: the Titanium
Series has reached its end.
As with most toy-related business decisions, the most likely
reason for its cancellation is an overall lack of sales. Of course,
filling the pegs with endless repaints of the same starfighters
probably drove away many consumers, but this is all academic at
this point. Still, we as collectors should be thankful for the
long run the die-cast did have because it yielded some very high-quality
pieces. Like the Neimoidian Shuttle and TX-130 Fighter Tank, the
Venator cruiser is a stellar example of Titanium Series at its
aesthetic peak.
And so, let us begin this bittersweet look at a fantastic piece…

James Cameron's "Avatar" had a $41.3
million weekend to shoot past "Star Wars" as the No.
3 movie on the all-time domestic box office charts. Next stop,
"The Dark Knight."
No. 1 for the fifth-straight weekend, Cameron's sci-fi saga
raised its domestic total to $491.8 million and should top $500
million after revenues are counted on Martin Luther King Day,
according to studio estimates Sunday.
Worldwide, 20th Century Fox's "Avatar" lifted its
total to $1.6 billion, second only to Cameron's last movie, 1997's
"Titanic," at $1.8 billion.
"One guy makes two movies in 10 years, and they're by
far the biggest movies of all time. That's remarkable," said
Chris Aronson, head of distribution for the studio.
"Avatar" topped the original "Star Wars,"
which took in $460.9 million domestically in its original run
and several reissues over the years. But factoring in today's
higher admission prices, "Star Wars" remains well ahead
of "Avatar" on actual number of tickets sold.

You know what your desk needs? A lightsaber. Yeah,
we know, it seems obvious, but we'll bet you don't have one. Besides,
with most offices frowning upon "real weapons," you can
sneak this one in under the radar. They'll think, "Awww, look
at that cute novelty lamp!" But you'll know that you can whip
it out of the base and slice down some Sith... or maybe just those
guys from Marketing. Smarmy jerks. They never invite you to go out
to lunch with them.
This miniature lightsaber is just over a foot long. When you're
not cutting down Joe from Marketing, you can set it in its base
where it'll charge up and emit a soft blue glow to soothe you while
you make login page functional and elegant. If you love lamp and
you love Star Wars, this office accessory is a no brainer.
Click
here and click on "Lights
and Lasers" or the images below to check it out! The base
charges the lightsaber to illuminate the desk as a desk lamp and
the Lightsaber can be removed from the base when charged and is
a Licensed collectible! At almost 14" it's not a bad deal for
$25.99!

BioWare confirms Spring 2011 Target For Old Republic!
Last night during Electronic Arts' financial conference
call an unnamed MMO was mentioned for a spring 2011 launch. Today
BioWare's message board confirmed what we pretty much figured. Their
statement says, "While we have not announced a specific date,
we can confirm that we are targeting a spring 2011 release for Star
Wars: The Old Republic."
Yep, that means the biggest MMO launch since Poptropica . .
. er, World of Warcraft is still over a year away. BioWare's statement
adds they still plan to reveal a lot of the 's details throughout
2010 and they also remind folks that they are still taking sign
ups for the eventual beta test of the game. Will the game become
the MMO champion? Time will tell.

The 3D version of James Cameron’s Avatar,
starring Sigourney Weaver, has grossed more than $1.14 billion (£700m)
in ticket sales around the world in just three weeks.
Now, films including The Lord of the Rings trilogy
and Star Wars have been lined up to be re-released and “retro-fitted”
with the 3D technology, which can take as little as four months.
George Lucas, the director of the first Star Wars
film to be made in 1977, is reported to be spending $10m (£6.24m)
to turn it into a 3D experience. Bobby Jaffe, the chairman of Legend
Films in San Diego, a company which converts films from 2D to 3D,
said several Hollywood studios had been in contact to revive popular
films into the format.
“We can turn an older film into 3-D in
around 16 weeks,” he told The Sunday Times.
“It mostly suits action films, such as Top Gun or The Matrix,
but Avatar proved it’s best to use the technology to immerse
the audience in the story rather than throw things at them. This
is the new, more sophisticated era of 3-D.”

No More Star Wars Titles In Top 10 All Time Movies!
UPDATE:
The below article posted at WSJ.com stated "all-time in
the U.S" which is incorrect, it should have read "all-time
Worldwide." Both Star Wars (A New Hope) and The Phantom
Menace are still in the Top 10 on the Domestic Charts. Thanks to
YN reader R2-DB for the info.
"Avatar" squeaked past "Star Wars:
Episode III" on Thursday to become the tenth-highest-grossing
movie of all-time in the U.S., according to Box Office Mojo.
The Web site, a tracker of movie data, said the milestone was
reached a day after the film--distributed by News Corp. (NWSA),
owner of this newswire--became No. 2 on the global list. Its $1.14
billion global take after just three weeks in theaters is behind
only "Titanic" at $1.84 billion. Both were directed by
James Cameron.
Ticket sales for "Avatar" have been helped by the
significant amount of showings the movie is having for the higher-priced
3-D format. According to Box Office Mojo, "Avatar" took
in $6.1 million Thursday, putting its cumulative gross at $380.5
million, $270,000 above what "Star Wars: Episode III - Return
of the Sith" took in five years ago.
The domestic gross for "Avatar" will top $400 million
this weekend, making it the tenth film, and second-fastest, to reach
that plateau. The Batman movie "The Dark Knight" did so
in 18 days.

Review:
Princess Leia Organa (Jabba’s
Slave Girl)
When
Hasbro/Kenner debuted their Power of the Force 2 line 15
years ago, the figures were far from the quality seen today and
certainly had their flaws such as the overly-muscular “He-Man”
male characters. The most notorious and often-ridiculed
misstep in this resurgence of Star Wars toys, however,
was “Monkey-Face Leia”. Throughout POTF2’s life span, capturing
an appropriately feminine likeness of the princess was an elusive
challenge for Hasbro with misfire after misfire polluting store
pegs. Many of them, quite honestly, made her look like a
1980s drag queen. Naturally, any new and improved version
of Leia is a welcome entry—even today.
However,
one version escaped this cycle of shoddy sculpting. It looked
nothing like Carrie Fisher, but at least it was a decidedly feminine
portrait. It was Hasbro’s second POTF2 Leia figure—the famous
“Jabba’s Slave” version. While it still suffered a bit from
a static wide-stance pose, minimal articulation, and questionable
proportions, the figure was still good enough to earn a copious
amount of praise. Hasbro revisited this version of Leia
several years later in the Power of the Jedi line, sculpting
a new version for inclusion with the Sail Barge cannon.
There were some improvements such as a more slender figure and
a soft goods skirt, but the articulation and likeness still left
much to be desired.
Nearly
fifteen years after their first attempt, Hasbro has again taken
a crack at this version of Princess Leia, and it is clearly an
attempt to create an all-inclusive version of the Slave Girl outfit.
Still, the question we face is this: after 15 years of experience
and technological advancements, can this figure be considered
a success and redemption for their earlier attempts?

Millennium Falcon Guitar - Update!
Check out his follow-up from Yodanews reader Mike about the post
we made on the 8th about the Millennium Falcon Guitar, Thanks
Mike!
Regarding your recent story about the Millennium Falcon guitar:
I found the photo you posted several months ago, and have
actually been in contact with the agent of the artist who made
this guitar. He specializes in all manner of found-object guitars.
Only one has been made, but the artist graciously offered to make
another one, custom-made, and playable. The cost is around $1600
USD, plus tax and shipping (about $50). Well outside my price
range, but reasonable for what it is. Keepin' you up to date!

Hamill Explains Never Having Acted in a Star Wars Game
Mark Hamill has made quite a name for himself in voice acting.
After his onscreen role as Luke Skywalker in the original Star
Wars trilogy, he has become well known among Batman fans as the
definitive voice of the Joker, reprising his part from the 90s
Batman: The Animated Series most recently in Rocksteady Games'
Batman: Arkham Asylum.
But between those parts, he has also acted in Wing Commander
III, Call of Duty 2, Tim Schafer's Full Throttle, Soldier of Fortune
II: Double Helix, and even as another comic book character, the
Canucklehead protagonist of X-Men: Wolverine's Revenge. But strangely
enough, the part that has never come his way?
Luke Skywalker in a Star Wars game.
During an interview with CVG, the actor was asked whether
or not this seeming career anomaly was by design, or something
else.
"When I played Luke from 1977 to 1983, games were in
their infancy," Hamill explained. "I talked about turning
a page and starting a new chapter. Those movies had a beginning,
middle and end, and everyone sort of moved on."
"I don't really know how to answer that, because I've
never been asked to do it. That's fine, though. If you're playing
Luke the way he was in the films - from his late teens to mid-'20s
- I've outgrown the role. In the story, Luke is so boy-next-door
farm boy, it's like Dorothy in Oz. All the other characters that
surround him are fantastic."
Pausing for thought, he adds "I'm not sure when George's
animated series Clone Wars is set, but I think it's before Luke
was born. Maybe when he was an infant."

Our Research Droids tracked down what to appears to be an
ad slick or upcoming presentation slide for the soon to be released
2010 AT-AT Walker vehicle with some additional written description
highlights. While nothing should be interpreted as confirmed until
we hear it from Hasbro themselves, we do find this advertisement
very intriguing (and likely). We are getting giddy! This will
undoubtedly be an exciting year if things like this are coming!
We hope you enjoy!
Last November, we gave you the head's up that the original
rogues of the Star Wars saga were coming back in a brand new series
of adventures for younger readers. Now, you can take a look at
the cover to the first book in the Adventures in Hyperspace series
by Ryder Windham, titled Fire Ring Race.
Before they joined the Rebellion against the Empire, the
pilot Han Solo and his co-pilot Chewbacca made their living by
transporting cargo across the galaxy in the Millennium Falcon.
But when Jabba the Hutt hires them to pick up a cargo container
at Fornax Station, Han and Chewie pick up something else . . .
trouble!

2010 is the year that nearly 50 artistically-customized Stormtrooper
helmets donated by eFX Collectibles will be displayed at Star
Wars Celebration V, and then auctioned to support Make-A-Wish
Foundation.
The latest completed helmet, an homage to the 1954 sci-fi
horror classic "The Creature from the Black Lagoon,"
comes from artist (and 501st member) Matt Busch (TK-3477). As
this charity art project continues to gain momentum, Jeremy Bulloch
(BH-5211) and Honorary Member Tory Belleci have also signed on
to put their mark on a TK helmet. Click
here to learn more about the 501st TK Project and check out
the amazing photos of the helmets that have been submitted so
far.

Every once in a while new rumors emerge regarding
a return to the big screen for George Lucas' once-revered Star
Wars series. Of course, this talk always goes nowhere and usually
turns out to have originated out of some website's desperate
need to pull in traffic… or some fanboy's desperate wish
to see his ultimate Star Wars fan-fiction come true. (No Greedo/Han
slashfic we say!)
And while many of us remain burned, or at least disenchanted,
after the Prequel Trilogy, there's no denying that a new series
of films set in that galaxy far, far away still stands as a
tantalizing prospect, especially if it were to be done right
this time (i.e. with certain Bearded Ones handing over the creative
reins to young blood). But where would such a series go?
This topic has been the basis of speculation since we all
learned (or those of us old enough at the time learned, anyway)
back in the late '70s that A New Hope was not a one-shot but
merely the first in a planned series of three trilogies. Eventually
those three triumvirates got cut down to two three-film sets,
but let's ponder today where a new and modern Star Wars movie
series might take us…
Wattographs is pleased to launch the
New Year with 2 NEW private autograph signings with original and
prequel trilogy actors Peter Sumner and Phil Eason!
Peter Sumner played Lt. Pol Treidum in 'A New Hope' and was given
the famous Star Wars line, "TK-421 why aren't you at your post?
TK-421 do you copy?" Aside from the doomed efficient imperial
officer, Sumner has enjoyed a good career on television, working
along side many of Brittan's notable performers. Mr. Sumner will
be signing fans' personal items and collectibles!
Phil Eason played Jedi Master Yaddle in "The Phantom Menace."
Eason's work with puppets extends through television commercials
and series, to films such as Labyrinth, Little Shop of Horrors,
and Muppet Treasure Island among others. Mr. Eason will be signing
officially licensed photos as well as fans' personal items.
Signing end January 31st at 11:59:59 EDT. Personal items need to
arrive with Wattographs by that date. Please see site for full details!

Gentle Giant Collectors Price Guides 2010 Update!
The GentleGiantCollector.com
Price Guides have been updated for the start of the new year!
There has been a decent amount of fluctuation from the last update.
There have been some great deals on many items for those that
have been keeping a watch on the secondary market! On the other
hand, some of the harder to find items (even from retired lines)
are holding their value or increasing it.
For readers not familiar with our guides, we process
them manually to ensure they are accurate. The Price Guide team
looks at completed ebay auctions, ebay stores, online retailers
who sell in the secondary market, yahoo auctions, popular message
board sale sections, as well as other places on the web to determine
the true value of each piece on the secondary market.
It is both a useful tool if you are looking to
fill a hole in your collection, or if you have the misfortune
of having to part with one of your pieces and need to have an
idea what you can expect it to sell for. Our very popular Image
Guides are also integrated into the section.
To celebrate the new year we are having a 20% off sale for all
orders over $100 all weekend long. Just add items to your cart and
the discount will be applied automatically. Discount not available
on FX Lightsabers, Preorder and Clearance Items.
Happy New Year and best wishes in 2010. It's going
to one fun ride as we enter our sixth year bringing you the
latest and greatest news in the Star Wars community every day!
We are going to be kicking off 2010 win a HUGE giveaway! Stay
tuned the week of the 4th for more information!
