It's been a labor of love that goes back a decade. Well, we're (finally) 100% done with the book, including final layout. Today is a very sad day for Star Wars fans, as we lost a dear friend in Ian Abercrombie. You know him better as the voice of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine on The Clone Wars. I cannot express how thankful I am to have had the opportunity to work with Ian. He was extremely passionate about his role on the series and he was brilliant at it. I always called him “Chancellor” no matter where we were, in the studio or out at a restaurant. I think he enjoyed that a great deal. I learned so much from him about directing actors, and working with dialog. His advice and mentoring will be sorely missed by all of us. Though he played a villain on our show, you would be hard pressed to meet a kinder person. He loved to laugh and his sense of humor always lightened our record sessions. I will miss his stories, I will miss his performances, and I will miss his contribution to our show.

My friend, the Force will be with you, always, and you will never be forgotten.

The poster includes original signatures from George Lucas, Dave Filoni, Daniel Logan (“Boba Fett” in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: The Clone Wars) and Corey Burton (“Cad Bane,” “Count Dooku,” and “Ziro the Hutt” in Star Wars: The Clone Wars).

In preparation for the re-release of George Lucas’ Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace in 3D, the AMC theater chain has announced a series of exclusive activities and planned giveaways that will take place during opening weekend, Feb. 10-12, at select AMC locations.

For starters, fans who purchase RealD 3D tickets will receive an all-new Hasbro Star Wars Fighter Pod, because toys are – and always have been – an integral part of Lucas’ Star Wars experience. As the release clarifies, Fighter Pods are limited to one per ticket, and are available all weekend long, while supplies last.

But wait … there’s more. Ten AMC locations in major markets also plan on hosting exclusive event screenings on Saturday, Feb. 11, that will be bustling with fan-friendly activities and giveaways.

The 10 participating Star Wars: Episode I theaters are as follows:

Contributors were allowed to recreate scenes from Star Wars however they wanted. Within just a few months SWU grew into a wild success. The creativity that poured into the project was unimaginable.

SWU has been featured in documentaries, news features and conferences around the world for its unique appeal. In 2010 we won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Creative Achievement In Interactive Media.

This was a new feeling for George Lucas. He made a movie about a plucky band of freedom fighters who battle an evil empire — a movie loaded with special effects like no one had seen before. Then he showed it to executives from all the Hollywood studios. And every one of them said, “Nope.”

One studio’s executives didn’t even show up for the screening. “Isn’t this their job?” Lucas says, astonished. “Isn’t their job at least to see movies? It’s not like some Sundance kid coming in there and saying, ‘I’ve got this little movie — would you see it?’ If Steven (Spielberg) or I or Jim Cameron or Bob Zemeckis comes in there, and they say, ‘We don’t even want to bother to see it. . . .’ ”

Lucas sighs. It’s true that the movie, “Red Tails,” is a biopic about the Tuskegee Airmen rather than a space opera starring the Skywalker clan. But the snub implied that Lucas’s pop-culture collateral — six “Star Wars” movies, four “Indiana Jones” movies, the effects shop Industrial Light and Magic and toy licenses that were selling (at least) four different light sabers this Christmas — was basically worthless. When “Red Tails” opens in theaters on Jan. 20, it will be because Lucas paid for everything, including the prints.

Lucas, who is 67 and still in possession of the full pompadour, told me his story of rejection on a cold December morning at Skywalker Ranch, in Marin County, Calif. He was sitting on a maroon sofa in the animation studios, wearing his standard billionaire-casual outfit — a flannel shirt with rolled-up sleeves, jeans and Nikes — while Padmé Amidala, the heroine of the “Star Wars” prequels, peeked down from two paintings arranged on either side of his head.

“I’m retiring,” Lucas said. “I’m moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff.”

If you looks around the Happy Meal site, there's also an "Ask Yoda" section. Another TFN reader named Ron prognosticates that this might mean that the KFC promo will not end up in the U.S. We'll see soon enough! The Phantom Menace comes to theaters in 3-D on February 10, 2012.

Battlestar Galactica star Katee Sackhoff joins Iron Man director Jon Favreau on this weeks episode of the Clone Wars.

Time for a new story with a new but familiar voice, and the return of another familiar voice and foe. In the next all-new episode of The Clone Wars, Ahsoka Tano is reunited with Lux Bonteri, the handsome young Separatist who opened her eyes to the fact that the war isn’t always black-and-white. When Lux suddenly barges into a peace conference between Separatists and Republic delegates, he involves Ahsoka in a dangerous search to find justice for his mother’s death. This episode, directed by Dave Filoni, sees the return of Death Watch. Since their attempt to take over Mandalore in Season Two, they’ve gotten tougher, grittier, and far more dangerous. Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Cowboys & Aliens) returns as warlord Pre Vizsla, and is joined by Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) as the armored warrior, Bo-Katan.

BioWare's massively multiplayer online role-playing game Star Wars: The Old Republic shipped in late December and publisher Electronic Arts was quick to herald it as the "fastest growing subscription MMO in history." Though it may have already notched such lofty figures, today EA announced that The Old Republic's journey is just beginning, with its first content update due next week.

Due out on January 17, the Rise of the Rakghouls update brings two major content additions to The Old Republic: a new Flashpoint and a new Operation. The new Flashpoint is Kaon Under Siege, and it tasks gamers with teaming up to lay waste to a group of Rakghouls. The content is available only for players who have reached the game's level cap of 50, and sports it Normal and Heroic modes.

The second significant addition in Rise of the Rakghouls is new Operation Karagga's Palace. This Operation pits teams of eight or 16 against Karagga and the Hutt Cartel, and it is available in Normal, Heroic, and Nightmare difficulty options. On top of the new Flashpoint and Operation, Rise of the Rakghouls includes game updates like antialiasing and player-versus-player bracketing for WarZones. As for future refreshes, BioWare said the next planned update for Star Wars: The Old Republic will arrive sometime during March 2012. This new update will include new Flashpoints, Operations, WarZones, and unnamed fresh "game systems."

Nasa's Kepler telescope detected two new planet systems with two suns - named Kepler-34 and Kepler-35 - leading Nasa astronomers to say that planets like the fictional Tatooine are common. Many could be a good hunting ground for planets that support life, says William Welsh of San Diego University.

You may not know that Darth Vader lives a very questionable lifestyle off-camera. When not making Star Wars films, the Sith Lord has been known to rob banks and exploit ill-conceived Ukrainian property laws. The intergalactic ne'er-do-well's latest imbroglio takes us Orlando, Florida, where an intoxicated Vader attempted to take a nap...in the middle of the street...at 2:45 AM yesterday morning.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the besotted Dark Lord was bumbling around the roadway when confronted by a trooper. Always one to respect chain of command, Vader instead cast aspersions at the trooper and laid down in the road. That's when things got more heated than the fires of Mustafar...

PEPSICO is piggybacking on the release next month of Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace 3D” to promote its Brisk iced tea and juice drinks.

This week, the company is introducing new product packaging and a new mobile game app — featuring Yoda and Darth Maul, characters from the film, originally released in 1999 — created for Brisk’s target market, young adults, particularly males, ages 18 to 29. The initiatives will be the focus of the largest multimedia advertising and marketing campaign that PepsiCo has ever waged for Brisk.

PepsiCo has bottled and marketed Brisk, a Lipton ready-to-drink tea brand, through a joint venture with Unilever, owner of Lipton, since 1991. It has also worked with Lucasfilm to promote the “Star Wars” franchise since 1997.

The new campaign is the brainchild of Mekanism, the San Francisco-based agency PepsiCo hired in 2010 that revived Brisk’s clay-animated commercials from the mid-1990s. The original spots parodied figures like Frank Sinatra and Babe Ruth, while the new Mekanism Brisk ads have featured Eminem — in a Super Bowl XLV commercial — as well as Danny Trejo and Ozzy Osbourne.

Perhaps the most troubling news for AI algorithms across the globe, over 3 billion NPCs have been slaughtered in the two weeks since The Old Republic officially launched.
