Even though we still have our suspicions about
the pace at which the much-rumored Star Wars live action TV series
is getting made, rumors are popping up saying it may actually
be sooner rather than later. The possible heavy on the Fett series,
which has been casting for the Rebel Alliance, is rumored to
be in preproduction in
Australia, right now.
Sci Fi Wire has the scoop from an Aussie site saying that:
The show is assembling high-quality writers from the Aussie
TV industry, including writers from the Love My Way and Secret
Life of Us, who have been approached by Lucas' longtime producer
Rick McCallum.
So perhaps they may reach their 2010 air-date yet. The Jedi-free
series covers what happens between Episode III and Episode IV — which
means no Hayden, so it has that going for it. Should be interesting
to see if people will have room in their hearts for new Star
Wars characters.

I’m still trying to figure out if I’m
a fan of Cartoon Network’s The Clone Wars series or if
I’m just watching it out of a sick, thirty-year old Star
Wars habit. I mean, I can actually say that I’ve genuinely
enjoyed a handful of the episodes. That some parts of this series
are the best Star Wars has been in years (the space battles,
the lightsaber fights, the Yoda giggle!!!). But at the same time,
it’s clunky and inconsistent. The animation is stiff. Some
of the designs just don’t sit right with me. And the storytelling
is often hampered by inane Lucas-style jokes or just plain-old
lazy writing.
At the same time, I have to admit that I haven’t missed
an episode. I’ve even shown it to friends. Sometimes, giving
a recommendation to watch! I think I’m even responsible
for getting a couple of people hooked on The Clone Wars!
We’ve known for some time now that Lucasfilm was planning
a boxed-set of the first season episodes for release on Blu-ray
(they’ve been releasing random collections of episodes
on DVD since last year), most likely hitting store shelves sometime
this fall. And now, thanks to a scooper on the forums of Blu-ray.com
we’ve got our first look at what we can expect from the
set. Though it’s exciting to get this sneak peek, keep
in mind that it’s all rumour at this point, until an official
announcement is made.

You might
have came across a viral video of Breckin Meyer featuring Zac
Efron, which plays like a parody of Perez Hilton's video statement
about his run-in with the Black Eyed Peas last week in Toronto.
Since being released Wednesday on FunnyOrDie.com and later on
AdultSwim.com, the Meyer clip has nabbed about 370,000 views.
While it was a billed as "Breckin Meyer Responds to Perez
Hilton," the video in fact is a stealth promo written by "Robot
Chicken" creators Seth Green and Matthew Senreich and head
writer Tom Root to tease AdultSwim's unusual campaign in support
of the DVD release of the show's extended "Star Wars Episode
II" special.
Green and Senreich are strapping on skates to host a nine-city
roller-rink tour across America, which will feature performances
by hip-hop band Gym Class Heroes and appearances by "Robot
Chicken" writers, producers, voice cast members, including
Meyer, as well as guest bands. Also on tap will be Robot Chicken-themed
activities and games.
Sponsored by Boost Mobile, the admission-free Adult Swim's "Robot
Chicken: Star Wars Episode II" Roller Skating Tour kicks
off Aug. 1 in Los Angeles, with stops in Las Vegas, Denver, Kansas
City, Mo., Indianapolis, Richmond, Va., Philadelphia and New
York.
"Grab your friends, your couples skate partner and some
kneepads," Green said. "We're coming to your town!
Or at least to a major market somewhat close to your town."
To heat things up, "Robot Chicken" will hold a
preview party July 25 during Comic-Con in San Diego with a
guest DJ.
It's open to the public.
The 2009 Comic Con is less than a month away
but big news is already coming from a galaxy far, far, away.
For
the first time ever in the San Diego-based convention's 40 year
history, a presentation entitled "The Star Wars Spectacular" will
be broadcast as a major television event on the G4 cable channel.
The Lucas-approved broadcast will be shown on Saturday July 25th
starting at 2pm ET/PT and will feature exclusive never-before-seen
footage, breaking Star Wars/Lucasfilm news, guest stars, and
surprise announcements.
The Lucasfilm panels are normally kept secret from those
not attending the sold-out "Star Wars Day" panels usually
held on the Friday of the convention. This year, Lucas devotees
will get to hear exclusives from Lucasfilm's Steve Sansweet and "Clone
Wars" supervising director Dave Miloni on the sci-fi-centric
G4's popular "Attack of the Show" starring Kevin Pereira
and Olivia Munn who is a favorite among fanboys due to her tendency
to appear in revealing costumes such as the Slave Leia outfit
made famous in "Return of the Jedi."
"Star Wars" fans are also invited to participate in
the panel discussions by submitting questions through a G4 micro-site.
Questions will be answered by the panelists live during the broadcast
of the "Star Wars Spectacular."
Lucasfilm is also making Comic Con history with the "Star
Wars Stories" project in which fans can be a part of Lucasfilm's
historical archive by submitting stories of "Star Wars" movie
moments and nostalgia via video testimonials. Attendees can record
their testimonials on-site at the Lucasfilm pavilion or at g4tv.com/comiccon.

Last week, iTunes announced that it is celebrating
the 25th anniversary of the release of Ghostbusters. This it
did by renting it out at 99p, as its “Film of the Week”.
I had two quite intense and simultaneous responses to this news.
The first was sombre. It was, if I may be frank, bordering on
maudlin.
“Twenty five years? Twenty-five years? My God, this is
worse than when I realised it was ten years since Vogue by Madonna
was No 1. I never used to be able to remember things from 25
years ago. I am beginning to have the memory span — the
reminiscing capabilities — of an old woman.”
The second response was, thankfully, much brisker. It was: “99p!
For the best film ever made? That’s an INSULT! It’s
like iTunes saying you can have sex with the Queen for a pound!
It won’t stand, by God! IT WON’T STAND!”
But, on reflection, in many ways the two responses kind of
merged together in the middle. For the simple truth of the
matter is
that Ghostbusters is the greatest film ever made — and
yet, currently, the world is too scared to admit this. In 2009,
if you stood up at a party and spoke factually — Ghostbusters
should still be nominated for an Oscar every year, even now — that’s
how good it is” — you would probably experience great
feelings of squirminess, and embarrassment.
And that is because the generation before us has done an
excellent propaganda job on installing Star Wars as the best
film ever
made, and we — their younger brothers and sisters — never
realised how late in the day it was getting. If we’d realised
a little sooner that 25 bleeding years had passed, we would have
got a hustle on with shooting George Lucas’s overrated,
po-faced bundle of space-tat out of the water. As it is, I think
we all still thought it was, like, 1992 or something, and there
was plenty of time to make the case for Ghostbusters, after we’d
got over how good this new Blur album was.

A naked sex scene with STAR WARS star CARRIE FISHER literally
made the actress' WHITE LIGHTNIN' co-star sick - because he'd drank
so much champagne.
Edward Hogg, who plays real-life alcoholic dancer Jesco White in
the film, admits love scenes with his childhood pin-up were awkward
and embarrassing - and he threw up after their final intimate encounter.
The actor explains, "In one of the scenes we shot, which
didn't make it in the movie, we pop champagne in the bath together
and
I had to drink about a half bottle down. " We did about seven
takes, so I'd drunk about three bottles of real champagne by the
time we finished the scene. I had to run down
the road after that and felt so sick from the champagne that I
just threw up."
And when he wasn't being violently sick, Hogg admits he was
suffering from chronic embarrassment.
He tells WENN, "I must've seen one of the first three Star
Wars movies every Christmas since I was six years old and Carrie
was lovely to me; she knew what she was doing.

It can safely be said that virtually every
kid you know these days have grown up watching at least one
of the six Star Wars movies, and chances are pretty good
they’ve seen them all many times. Well, not everyone
is going to grow up to be part of the Jedi, as these younglings
aren’t too young to figure out that the Dark Side of
the Force seems to hold a whole lot of promise and power.
Well, here’s the TIE Fighter playhouse that ought to
give your little ones plenty of fun imagining that they’re
Darth Vader, shooting down Red One in the Death Star trench
run.
