Spotlight
on the Celebration Europe Artists: Jerry Vander Stelt
For our next segment, where we take a closer look at the Artists
for the Celebration
Europe II Art Show, we feature Jerry Vander Stelt. Jerry sent
along the below image and also some great background infoon his
work, Apology Accepted
"This scene takes place somewhere between after Ep 3
and just before Ep 4. Based upon the age of Luke and Leia in ANH,
there is roughly an 18 year spread between films, in which a lot
of unseen events could have taken place, that may not have been
"canonized" in the EU novels. For starters, Vader is
known from the "Rise of Darth Vader" novel to have made
several modifications ( being good with "fixing things"
) to his suit since he was first encased in it. Because of this,
I was at liberty to play with different versions of Vader's armor.
We have the "widow's peak" of his helmet from ANH,
but his black tabard does not go over the shoulder plating, rather
under the plating. We have the ANH gauntlets. Green and red chest
box lights as opposed to blue and red from ESB. Black lenses as
opposed to the brownish red colored lenses, etc. Anakin could
have been making several test runs of various combinations of
what worked or didn't regarding his suit, which only added to
his anger at the entire universe. Story-wise, there was a small
group of renegade Jedi that perhaps escaped Order 66 and ( like
Yoda ) were able to collectively mask most of their Force presence
from the Emporer and remain hidden.Somehow or other, Vader picked
up on their Force scent and reported back to Palpatine.
Vader was ordered to find them upon this backwater
world where there were thought to be. Here we see the newest generation
of Clone Stormtroopers, sent to take out this small group of Jedi.
The Troopers failed to capture the Jedi, so Vader had to come
down from his personal Star Destroyer ( in his newly untested
prototype Tie fighter ) to punish them for their failure.Upon
his arrival,Vader was force-throwing Troopers here and saber-slinging
Troopers there, in which some of the troopers return fire causing
damage to the Tie in the background which is still smoking from
the short-lived firefight.Although badly injured, Vader allows
the trooper leader ( with the orange shoulder pad ) to live to
tell others what failure costs, in which he "Accepts their
apology". Vader, standing in the rain, is torn between two
personalities going on within: one seeks to find and destroy the
Jedi that are eluding him ( knowing their training that makes
them hard for him to find was due to Yoda and Obi Wan, making
his hatred for them all the more intense ). The other is his sense
of utter loss of not only his mentor, brother and best friend,
but the passing of his beloved wife, due to his own fall. To be
a man again! To tear off his wretched armor and feel the rain
wash him of his dark deeds! The rain is all around him, yet the
very suit that keeps him alive denies him this."
It measures 30" x 20" on Archival paper and is limited
to just 250 prints. It will sell for € 78.00. Click below
to see the larger current image.Check back Friday, as we feature
more great artists like Malcolm Tween and Tsuneo Sanda and Matt
Busch!

Gentle
Giant SDCC-Exclusive Boba Fett Deluxe Mini Bust
San Diego Comic-Con attracts thousands of attendees
each year. They go for the costumes, first looks at movies and
TV shows, the chance to meet comic book artists and writers, and
panel discussions. But there’s another big draw: exclusive
collectibles created just for the show. Gentle Giant, purveyors
of finely-crafted maquettes and busts, has some exciting exclusives
planned for this year — one of which celebrates a certain
bounty hunter who successfully tracked the Millennium Falcon to
Cloud City. StarWars.com is proud to reveal it here first.
For this year’s SDCC (July 18-21), Gentle
Giant has created the Boba Fett Deluxe Mini Bust, a highly-detailed
depiction of one of Star Wars‘ most popular characters.
Based on Boba’s appearance in Return of the Jedi, each bust
is hand-painted, individually numbered, packaged with a certificate
of authenticity, and comes with multiple interchangeable arms
allowing for a wide range of poses — including his classic
rifle cradle. The attention to detail is stunning, from battle
damaged armor covered in film-accurate scrapes and scratches to
Fett’s trophy scalps, which are woven and not sculpted.
The bust comes packaged in a handsome green tin emblazoned with
the Mandalorian insignia, and protect by a slip cover.
Look for the Boba Fett Deluxe Mini Bust at Gentle Giant’s
SDCC booth, available for $150 and limited to 2,500 pieces. Check
out a special preview below!

Spotlight
on the Celebration Europe Artists: Hugh Fleming
For our next segment, where we take a closer look at the Artists
for the Celebration
Europe II Art Show, we feature Hugh Fleming . Below is the
most current sample of his print. It doesn't have a formal title,
but as you can see it is celebrating Jedi's 30th Anniversary.
The typography design differs from the rushed and rather amateurish
version currently on the official website. There is still some
polishing to be done, but it is very close to completion. Hope
you enjoy this first look at Hugh's almost final piece!
It measures 16" x 24" and is limited to just 250 prints.

we feature more great artists this week like, Jerry VanderStelt,

J.J. Abrams has taken the intergalactic reins from George
Lucas - and the "Star Wars" creator is confident his
legacy is in good hands.
"Yeah, [I'm excited]. J.J.'s a great director and we're
friends," George told Access Hollywood at the 2013 Crystal
+ Lucy Awards, when asked if he's looking forward to J.J.'s films.
"I think he understands the whole thing and how it works.
"And if he doesn't, [Lucasfilms president] Kathy [Kennedy]
will keep it straight," he added with a laugh.
As for his own involvement in the next three films, George
said he won't be doing "much."
"If they need help or anything, they'll give me a call,"
he said. "Otherwise, I'm off on my own."
Additionally, the legendary director said that no matter how good
"Episode VII" is, there will always be critics.
"No matter how you do it, it's a complicated cultural
icon. Therefore you're always going to be in trouble no matter
what you do," he said. "So, the best thing you can do
is just plow forward and try to do the best story you can."
"Star Wars: Episode VII" will be shot in the UK
and is slated for release in 2015.
What's the only thing scarier than a T. rex
terrorizing a wedding party? That would be a trio of All Terrain
Armored Transport walkers, a.k.a. AT-ATs. For "Star Wars"-challenged
folks, AT-ATs are those massive mechanized beasts who first appeared
in "The Empire Strikes Back," and are known to crush
everything in their paths.
Shortly before shooting his friends Leslie
Seiler and Paul Kingston's May 31 nuptials, Toronto-based photographer
Tony Lombardo spotted the now massively shared picture of a dinosaur
chasing down a bridal party by Quinn Miller. "I had the idea
of AT-ATs on my way to the wedding, so I pitched it," he
told Yahoo! Shine in a phone interview. He already knew that the
couple were big "Star Wars" fans. "The bride said,
'Let's totally do it!'"
Artists Doug Chiang and Iain McCaig, both instrumental
in shaping the look of the Star Wars saga, reunited at the start
of this year as part of the team Lucasfilm President Kathleen
Kennedy has assembled to create an exciting new future for Star
Wars. They are adding to their busy schedules a visit to Star
Wars Celebration Europe, the can’t-miss Star Wars fan event
in Messe Essen, Germany, July 26-28. There, they will discuss
their careers, their work on past Star Wars films, and show some
of their incredible artwork from earlier projects. See
these landmark Star Wars artists at Celebration Europe.

Review:
LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter - Set 9493
C-3PO and R2-D2 are my favourite characters
in all of Star Wars. I love their interplay. I wish Rich and I
were more like that. I would want to be C-3PO. While
I’ve never had the pleasure of chatting with R2-D2's alter
ego Kenny Baker, I have had a few chances to speak with C-3PO’s
inner Anthony Daniels.
It has always been a pleasure, and always something of an
entertainment. Daniels would be such a great chat show guest…
and yet I don’t think I’ve ever seen him on a chat
show. Pull your finger out, Norton.
Daniels and I wrapped up our conversation a few minutes ago,
and I’ll bring you many more details of what we discussed
later on, but for now, I thought I’d bring you Daniels’
comments on Episode VII. It is, after all, the big Star Wars topic
right now – and will be for the next couple of years. Here’s
how the back and forth went. Just like this but with more laughter.

The
Bounty Hunter Code: From the Files of Boba Fett
Deep in the darkest corners of BookExpo America...far from
the steely gaze of your average geek on the hunt, there sat a
little black book...plain..unassuming..thin. It was the word Bounty
Hunter that caught my eye, and now I'm glad it did! You see, last
year at BEA, there was a big display for these super deluxe orgazmo
edition books with sounds and lights and enough zazz to fill your
zazz jar for 15 years. The Book of Sith slid open like some deflowered
ancient Egyptian tomb while the Star Trek Federation book..well...it
promised to sound like Sulu when it was all said and done. This
year...little, black, almost invisible sampler books. Go figure.
Quick note...the best part of this package? The section on "How
to Hotwire a Landspeeder". Pure Gold.
