Empire Strikes Back 3D Trading Cards - Win a P1 Promo!
Topps is publishing the upcoming Empire Strikes
Back 3D Trading Cards to celebrate the film's 30th anniversary
and thanks to Topps we will be giving away 8 promo cards (listed
as P1) to our readers starting on Monday, 3/15/2010.
These cards are very rare, as they were only sent
to distributors and retailers! We did a short video to show
you how cool the 3D effects look, but you really need to see these
in person to appreciate them.
Check out the video below and stop back on Monday
for your chance to own the first Promo card in this series before
the May 2010 release date!
Yodasnews is proud to present a very special review for our
readers today: the first three “stunt” lightsaber
replicas from eFX Collectibles.
Released under the “Precision Cast” banner, these
lightsabers are accurate 1:1 scale replicas of the high quality
resin lightsaber hilts used during the filming of Revenge of
the Sith and Return of the Jedi. As those familiar with behind-the-scenes
information are aware, there were two different kinds of lightsabers
created for the major characters. The “Hero” versions
were the more elaborate versions, constructed of higher-quality
materials and crafted to exacting standards. “Hero”
props are those seen in close-up shots and in publicity stills.
The “stunt” versions were the workhorses, built
specifically for filming the duels and other action scenes involving
the lightsabers. Less attention was paid to their detail, and
they were typically made of resin.
Without further ado, we present a look at the following “stunt”
lightsabers: Anakin Skywalker (Episode III), Obi-Wan Kenobi
(Episode III), and Luke Skywalker version 2 (Episode VI).

Songs
and Star Wars pictures Made by The Electric Opera!
Multimedia artists The Electric Opera have launched a new
website to promote and distribute their innovative linking
of music with art and design. At
theelectricopera.com, visitors can view their unique
hand-made Star Wars screen prints while listening to the
companion song ‘I Know’. But stop the music playing and the
artworks disappear.
The Electric Opera want to re-establish the link between art
and music. They say “’I Know’ is a simple song about
complicated feelings. We wanted to illustrate it by using
characters and relationships that everybody knows. So Darth
Vader loves Padme as his wife, the Emperor as his
inspiration and C-3PO as his creation – but he’s never able
to say so to any of them.”
The Electric Opera is Mark Bown and Gerard Johnson. As Funky
Monkey they released the critically acclaimed and now highly
collectable series of vinyl 7” singles and CD albums. As a
bonus for visitors to
theelectricopera.com they have made the entire Funky
Monkey back catalogue available on the site as a free
download.

“With the animated Star Wars: The Clone
Wars just getting better and better as it builds towards a stunning
Season 2 climax, older fans with good memories might recall
two earlier series, Droids and Ewoks; they first ran on ABC
in 1985, while Ewoks alone returned for a second season. Kenner
produced 18 Droids and Ewoks action figures in 1985, but a second
batch of 14 figures, photographed and shown in Kenner’s
1986 retailers catalog, was never manufactured. But enough early
pre-production samples were made that some have found their
way to collectors’ hands. About 15 years ago I was contacted
by a seller who said he had gotten an entire set of the figures
from a friend at Kenner, and we eventually struck a deal. Incredibly,
all of the loose accessories were present—with one exception:
the Royal Scepter of Mon Julpa, the purple-faced dude on the
far right of the top row. A friend and fellow Star Wars collector
came to the rescue; he just happened to have spare scepter,
sent it to me at no charge, and completed the collection. That
only goes to prove that Star Wars collectors are some of the
nicest and most generous folks in the world!” Steve via
Michael.

Harrison Ford has revealed that he has agreed
on "a germ of an idea" with Steven Spielberg and George
Lucas for Indiana Jones 5.
Speaking to the BBC, the Extraordinary Measures star insisted
that the trio are still in the early stages of planning a sequel
to Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.
"The process works like this... We come to some basic
agreement and then George goes away for a long time and works
on it," he explained.
"Then Steven and I get it in some form, some embryonic
form. Then if we like it we start working with George on it
and at some point down the line it’s ready and we do it."
Crystal Skull, the first Indiana Jones film since 1989's
The Last Crusade, earned $786 million at the worldwide box office
when it opened in May 2008.

Ahsoka
Tano by Comicbook Artist Dan Hipp!
Comicbook artist Dan Hipp, creator of GYAKUSHU!
as well as the Amazing Joy Buzzards has posted his rendition
of Ahsoka Tano on his blog.
From his post:
Against my better instincts, i've been enjoying THE CLONE
WARS series on Blu-Ray. I think i might enjoy drawing the comic
version. I'm not in love with this pic, but it was a fun experiment.
Ahsoka done in Micron pen, prismacolor pen, bit of acrylic white
paint and a photoshop screen.
Some years ago I walked into a second hand
book shop and I bought a Star Wars Cross sections book. In the
center stood the Droid Control Ship. It blew my mind and I knew
I had to build it. My version of the Star Wars Droid Control
Ship is 30000 pieces and two years to build it.
Shopadidas.com
is offering 15% off with code MISSYOU and free shipping which
includes some of their Star Wars collection including shirts,
hoodies, track jackets and some shoes.
On Friday, Lucasfilm, the production company
of the man behind Star Wars, George Lucas, offered its support
of the Ackbar movement, the New York Times reports. The Times
report calls the statement a tongue-in-cheek endorsement of
Ackbar's candidacy. The use of Ackbar would probably need to
be legally approved by Lucasfilm before Ole Miss could even
craft a mascot in Ackbar's image.
"Lucasfilm is flattered that our Star Wars fans at
the University of Mississippi are considering electing Admiral
Ackbar as their mascot. The last time we checked in with Admiral
Ackbar, he was leading the Rebel Alliance Fleet on a critical
mission so it will be difficult for him to show up for the games!"
That's not exactly a legal signing off on Ackbar as the
Ole Miss mascot—and the students haven't voted for Ackbar
in any form yet—but it's an indication that the production
company might play along if the ol' admiral gets to suit up
as the Ole Miss mascot.

Harrison Ford never knew how big ‘Star
Wars’ would be.
The 67-year-old actor, who played Han Solo in the first
three installments of the science-fiction franchise, admits
it wasn’t until he went to the first screening that he
understood its significance.
He said: “I thought we were, when we were making
the movie, we were constantly being laughed at by the English
crew, they thought we dressed funny, nobody had any idea what
we were doing. The sets, a lot of them were digitally enhanced.
“But I never had a sense of the scale of the thing
until I was sitting in the theatre with the director George
Lucas, the first screening, and that ship came over at the beginning
of the movie, then I knew.”

New
Star Wars Comic Packs and Clone Wars Figures at EE!
Four University of Mississippi students joined
together for a joke, launching the Ole Miss Rebel Alliance,
a group intent on finding a new mascot for the Oxford, Miss.,
school. The quartet came up with a face for the movement—Admiral
Ackbar, a strange-looking figure from Star Wars—and even
a website, Facebook group, and Twitter account.
They never expected the admiral to become a dark-horse contender
for the students' vote on a new school mascot, the Daily Mississippian
reports.
"We started this as sort of a fun thing," one of
the alliance's founders, Tyler Craft, tells the Daily Mississippian.
"We did it with satire, fun, and a little comedy. Admiral
Ackbar represented the people who wanted to move forward, which
apparently was a good portion of the campus."
The Rebel Alliance has gained considerable momentum with its
push. "Ole Miss Rebel Alliance" was the sixth-most-searched
term on Google, according to the Daily Mississippian. But don't
be confused by the group's intentions. While Ackbar is the face
of the movement, he's not necessarily the founders' ideal mascot.
He's just the face of a push to start a fresh mascot search
at Ole Miss. But that may be lost on some students, who seem
to be attached to the idea that Ackbar could be their mascot.
