From
Darth Vader to SuperMan?
|
|
|
|
We saw this rumor posted at CinemaBlend.com,
what do you think?
We’ve already heard that the Justice League movie is in all
likelihood still happening, and as we predicted way back in November
they’re probably abandoning the idea of shooting in Australia
in favor of moving production to Canada. In fact, we’re starting
to get reports from Canadian readers claiming to have spotted various
members of the cast and crew in British Columbia, hanging out while
director George Miller scouts locations.
One such report rolled into my inbox tonight from a CB reader named
Candace, who says she managed to corner Adam Brody in a BC bar and
get him talking about JLA. What he told her is kind of a shocker.
Here’s her story: “I asked Brody to sign a napkin, and
asked what he/they were doing here. They're in BC to check out locations
for their new superhero movie Justice League is Mortal. Brody pointed
at Miller and said "George is our director". He said he's
playing The Flash, Common is playing Green Arrow (or Lantern, one
or the other), Armie Hammer (sounded like Arm and Hammer) is Batman,
someone from "mad max" is Martian Man-hunter (didn't catch
the name) and Hayden Christensen is Superman. Brody also nodded to
the woman to his right and said "she (he said her name but i
didnt catch it) is in it too". Oh, and they had lots of drinks.”
Just in case you missed it, you might want to go back and read
the part where Adam Brody told her Hayden Christensen is playing
Superman. Yeah that Hayden Christensen. Anakin Skywalker Hayden Christensen.
Over the past few months a lot of different names have been rumored
for the Superman part, but Hayden’s has not been one of them...
until now. If this turns out to be true, it’s a pretty big
shocker.

The
Clone Wars To Have A Tie-In Video Game!
|
|
|
|
Posted by our friends at JediNews.co.uk:
At the Memorabilia event that took place in Birmingham today, Anthony
Daniels took to the stage to talk Star Wars as well as field audience
questions. During this session he mentioned that there would be a
tie-in game to The Clone Wars animated series. He didn't give any
further details, so let the speculation begin!
UPDATED: James and Adam interviewed Anthony Daniels later today,
also at Memorabilia, and during the interview he confirmed that he'd
been doing the voice-over for the game during the previous two weeks.

Spike
Brings The Ad Force To 'Star Wars' Saga!
|
|
|
|
Posted at MultiChannel.com by
Mike Reynolds:
Multimillion Dollar Campaign Supports Basic-Cable Premiere Of All
Six Films
Spike TV has the basic-cable rights to the complete Star Wars
saga through 2013 and for its initial run the first two weekends
in April, the network is doing its best to make the advertising force
be with you.
The multiplatform, multimedia campaign, valued in the multimillions,
comes in support of Spike’s presentation of the six movies, which
will be presented together for the first time on a basic-cable network.
The campaign, in a nod to Yoda, plays off the theme “There is Much
To Be Learned,” a reference to the additional content interstitials
from LucasFilm that will accompany the movies. One of the highlights:
an exclusive clip of LucasArts’ videogame, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed,
scheduled for a summer release.
The male-targeted service will debut uncut, digitally re-mastered
HD versions of episodes I-II-III from April 4-6 from 8 p.m. to 11
p.m., with The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, making their
basic-cable premieres, and Revenge of the Sith, its broadcast-window
bow, respectively. The original theatricals -- Episode IV: A New
Hope, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Episode VI: Return of
the Jedi -- air the following weekend.

Darth
Vader Attacks Jedi in Garden!
|
|
|
|
This is no joke, this was posted at telegraph.co.uk a
few hours ago:
A Star Wars fan got closer to his idols than he would perhaps have
liked when he was attacked in his garden by Darth Vader. Jedi Master
Jonba Hehol - known to family and friends as Barney Jones, 36, of
Holyhead - was giving a TV interview in his back garden for a documentary
when a man, dressed in a black bin-bag and wearing Darth Vader's
trademark shiny black helmet, leapt over his garden fence.
Wielding a metal crutch - his lightsaber presumably being in for
repairs - the Sith Lord proceeded to lay about his opponent, whose
Jedi powers proved inadequate for the task of defending himself.
After besting Master Hehol in single combat, Vader, who The Sun
reports was under the influence of alcohol, went on to assault the
camera crew and a hairdresser. Master Hehol, a hairdresser, who founded
the first-ever British Jedi Church in loving homage to the world-famous
science fiction franchise with his brother Daniel, was unimpressed
by the revenge of the Sith.
"This wasn't a joke. This was serious," he said. Police
are investigating a claim of assault. The Jedi "religion" was
born as a joke in the 2001 census, when almost 400,000 people claimed
to believe in the Jedi faith. Based on the teachings of Yoda, the
crinkly green dwarf of the films, the "church" has a branch
in Florida and plans to open another in the Philippines.

Final
Clone Wars Character Key!

|

Chris from ACME posts in our forums:
So hopefully all the waiting was worthwhile! Roron Corrob gets
the call for the final CW key. As you can see in the image, we've
not yet decided on the edition size (it might be a lowish one) and
there is no pre-sale date yet, but it will be on sale and likely
delivered before San Diego Comic-Con, so it shouldn't be TOO long!

Posted at StarWars.com:
Featuring the Voices of STAR WARS Creator George Lucas and Guests
Conan O'Brien, Seth MacFarlane, Hulk Hogan and More; Special Bonus-Laden
DVD Arrives on July 22nd
In homage to one of the biggest adventure sagas in cinematic history,
Adult Swim über-creators Seth Green and Matthew Senreich incorporated
tons of plastic action figures, brilliant execution of stop-motion
animation and a touch of the Force to create the Robot Chicken: STAR
WARS special -- and now it makes its way to a bonus-feature filled
DVD from Warner Home Video and Adult Swim on July 22nd.
Seth Green tells StarWars.com exclusively, "Being a lifelong
Star Wars fan, it's mindblowing to have made a Star Wars project
that isn't for exclusive viewing in my living room. So obviously,
we're thrilled to get this out and let people have it for exclusive
viewing in their living rooms."
The Robot Chicken: STAR WARS DVD will be available for the suggested
retail price of $14.97 and boasts a wide range of bonus features
including:

Price Guides Now Live!
|
|
|
|
Posted at our sister site, GentleGiantCollectors.com:
Our new price guides, have been in the making for the last 6 month
and while not 100% ready to go, we are debuting the GentleGiantCollectors.com
Price Guides today! We know there are other price guides available,
and they can be very useful. However, the main complaint we have
heard from our members, is that they are not always accurate, that
they only use ebay as a source for the price and once the item is
no longer found on e-bay, the price stays where it was the last time
it was on, which can lead to mis-leading guides. We decided to work
on the problem.
The only 100% accurate way to do it, was the old fashioned way, manually.
It does take a lot of time, but the Price Guide team looks at completed
ebay auctions, ebay stores, online retailers who sell in the secondary
market, yahoo auctions as well as other places on the web. The guides
will be continually updated (on a monthly basis). We don't have them
all completed yet, but we are getting there!
Our Images
Guides and Price Guides are now one and the same. The Image Guides
Gallery, which now has over 300 images of all your favorite Gentle
Gentle Collectibles (we add more every week), now incorporates the
Price Guides. In the next few weeks, we will also be incorporating
the Price Guides into our very popular Registry, so that you will not
only be able to register all your collectibles and download your collection
to your home computer (current features) but, you will also be able
to see a current market value of your collection. There are hundreds
of new entries each day, so sure to check out the registry and check
out the new Price/Image

Review: Mighty
Muggs (Wave 1 Assortment)
|
|
|
|
At first glance, Hasbro’s new “Mighty Muggs” brand
may seem like just another kid-friendly line that may or may not have
a chance at success. However, this is not the case. The Mighty Muggs
represent Hasbro’s attempt to merge the Star Wars universe (and
collectors’ dollars) with the ever-expanding Urban Vinyl/Art
Toy movement.
Trying to get a handle on what exactly that movement is has been difficult
because there appear to be many different forms that fall under the
general umbrella. The closest counterpart to the Mighty Muggs appears
to be the Dunny figure, which starts its life as a uniform body. Various
designers and artists then paint their own vision onto the template
as though it were a blank canvas. The resulting creations are then
produced in small quantities and sold to collectors.

Ultimate
Star Wars Fan Movie or Not?
|
|
|
|
Posted at Wired.com:
The Millennium Falcon has landed in Marin County, California. It's
not the real Millennium Falcon, of course — it's an '89 Chevy
van that's tricked out to look like Han Solo's interstellar freighter.
Protruding from the roof is what appears to be the head of R2-D2,
and at first glance you'd never guess that it's just the dome from
an old security camera. There's no Wookiee sidekick inside the ship,
but there is a cheap imitation of the holographic chessboard and
a lamp fashioned from a vintage Burger King Star Wars tie-in cup.
"Is there an emergency brake on this thing?" asks the
pilot of the bizarre vehicle. He's having a hard time distinguishing
the real gauges from the props. And no wonder: The speedometer on
this vehicle, which cost all of $300, doesn't work much better than
the fake toggles and switches placed over the dash...

Star
Wars Action News Update
|
|
|
|
Jedi-Con 2008 was in Germany this past weekend, and while not a
lot of hard news, some very interesting and "almost confirmed" rumors
were floated about. Star Wars Action News reporter Steve was there
and reports back to us with details about Celebration Japan, Celebration
5's possible location, and even another Celebration in a certain
country down under. He also managed to score a Jedi-Con exclusive
Shadow Trooper 2-pack for one lucky Star Wars Action News listener!
Listen to find out how you can win.
Also this week, have you ever find yourself in a strange house
on a rainy Monday night, talking to someone you've never met before
and then pulling out some cash and filling up a box full of vintage
figures? That's what happened to Arnie when he replied to a local
newspaper classified ad for a Star Wars collection for sale. He didn't
expect to find much but ended up taking home a boxload of "new" vintage
figures. Marjorie and Arnie share the details of this experience
in this week's episode of Star Wars Action News, and we'll also give
you the lowdown on a licensed one-of-a-kind Star Wars collectible
he has for sale.
Finally, Marjorie and Arnie review the three new Evolution sets,
Fett, Sith, and Vader's Secret Apprentice from The Force Unleashed.
We also look at some of the new Titanium vehicles and give a proper
review to the new Grievous Starship. And Scott From Tulsa checks
in with his sightings of The Force Unleashed figures in Hasbro's
2008 Wave 2.
All this and more on this week's Star Wars Action News.

Science Meets Imagination: Philadelphia!

For the past few years, Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination
has been a traveling exhibit, touching down for several month stretches
at various museums across the country. A combination of pieces of real
world technology and artifacts from the Lucasfilm Archives, the exhibit
explores the relationship between science and science fiction.
Last week, Yodasnews was proud to present a three part article covering
Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination on its opening day at the
Franklin Institute Science Museum in Philadelphia. Packed with over
150 pictures, this diary-style article covers the exhibit as experienced
by our resident reviewer and graphic designer Jeff Gouse.
In case you missed this jam-packed article in its serialized form,
we are pleased to present the article in its entirety as part of the

Sideshow
Update!
|
|
|
|
So what is your favorite Darth Vader duel? Sideshow Collectibles would
love to know. Just go here and
scroll down to the bottom. And just a really exciting hint about these
- one of them is in development to be a diorama. The Genosis Arena
Padme vs. Nexu diorama is now up for preorder.
Head on over and check out the gallery for this diorama as well.
The Acme Archives/Sideshow Collectibles collaboration strikes again
with a beautifully framed canvas painting of none other than the Darth
Vader himself. Waitlists for both the Premium Format Speeder
Bike with Scout and 12
inch Commander Praji are being contacted currently. So if you missed
out the first time around for either of these there is still hope to
pick these up.

New
Hasbro Q&A!
|
|
|
|
The next Yodasnews Hasbro Q&A:
YN: We know that Hasbro is in contact with Lucasfilm and they give
you the material for figure designs. Is it possible that you could
request that some of your unique figures designs example (mace windus
purple clones, Kashyyyk deco battle droids etc) could be inserted
into expanded universe material like the clone wars tv series, as
to give these figures some recognition?
H: While we do not have any input as to what gets into the entertainment,
all of the characters from various media (whether they be from the
shows, comics, books, and even toys) do get incorporated into the
Lucasfilm database. In this way, they become part of the expanded
storyline that other groups could draw from if they so chose.
YN: Now that you have put the super articulated touch to the 501st
clone, can you please move the Clone Commando to the top of the list
of the clones who need super articulation? Great figure when scorch
came out and the exclusive ones are cool as well, but after just
getting the new comic 2 pack all white one, I really noticed how
limited his posability is. Really what he needs is knees and ankles
and that would be a big improvement over the current figure. Oh,
and as a nit pick, shouldn't the visor on the white commando have
a blue tint just
like scorch's visor?
H: We agree that the Clone Commando is in need of an SA figure.
As of this writing, we don’t have one slotted in but will look
for a way to update it to SA when we have a chance.
YN: This one is a Indiana Jones question, With the Adventure Heroes
Line will we also see play sets and environments like with Star Wars?
Something along the lines of the Cantina Sets and Falcon sets?
H: Not initially, but eventually we hope to get to do some Cinema
Scene-type ideas as the line continues into future years.
If you have
a question you would like us to ask, click
here to e-mail it to us,
or feel free
to post it in our forums.

George
Lucas Talks Star Wars: The Clone Wars!
|
|
|
|
From StarWars.com:
Movie makers, actors, directors, producers and movie distributors
descended on Las Vegas to share movie news and get excited for the
next big films coming from Universal, Paramount and Warner Brothers,
just to name a few at ShoWest 2008.
Filmmaker George Lucas was on hand for a short interview with Starwars.com
to talk about the next generation of Star Wars fans and why the clones
finally get the spotlight. Comingsoon.net also was in the room to ask
a few questions as well.
A lot of new fans will be watching this new animated series
and seeing Star Wars for the first time. What are your thoughts
on this new generation of kids that will be introduced to the Star
Wars saga through The Clone Wars animated series?
What do I think of them? The poor kids have to grow up in this
crazy world that's been created!
It's obviously a different tone but still has the drama and
the characters.
The TV series is exactly like the movies, exactly. I mean, you
can see it in the clip. It's basically just the movies only with
cartoon characters. It's basically a dramatic series, there's a lot
of action, a bit of humor. It runs along at the same level. It's
unusual for an animated film, because it's not really hardcore like
say Beowulf and it's not a Pixar movie, so it kind of falls in between
in this funny world where Star Wars is, which is kind of hard-edged
but not really, sort of on the verge of PG-13, flips over once in
a while, but sort of the high end of PG.
It also seems to show a little bit more of the clone characters
as well.
Yeah, now we get introduced to the clones, which we didn't get
in the movies. Now, they're like main characters and they really
are central to the whole thing, and you can identify them and know
who they are, and it's sort of like "Band of Brothers" only
with Jedi. [laughs]
Since the feature is being done specifically for the big screen,
where is the movie going to end and the series begin?
It's not that episodic. This is a movie but we started doing the
episodes and some of the episodes are stand-alone and some are two,
some are three, some are four, and there's no cliffhangers. It's
not like the current vogue of "24" and "The Wire" and
stuff where you actually have to watch the entire series in order
to understand what's going on. This is an old-fashioned episodic
show. We looked at it on the big screen and it looked so beautiful
and great that we said, "Gee, we can make a feature just like
this." So we did and got all the people, got all the stuff and
said, "Let's make a feature." So we did.
Do you think you'd have other people continue the Star Wars
saga past Episode VI or turn some of the other material into films?
But there's no story past Episode VI, there's just no story. It's
a certain story about Anakin Skywalker and once Anakin Skywalker
dies, that's kind of the end of the story. There is no story about
Luke Skywalker, I mean apart from the books. But there's three worlds:
There's my world that I made up, there's the licensing world that's
the books, the comics, all that kind of stuff, the games, which is
their world, and then there's the fans' world, which is also very
rich in imagination, but they don't always mesh. All I'm in charge
of is my world. I can't be in charge of those other people's world,
because I can't keep up with it.

New
Hasbro Q&A!
|
|
|
|
The next Yodasnews Hasbro Q&A:
YN: The new 2008 Kashyyyk Trooper was made visibly smaller than
the
rest of the clones from Episode III. I was very disappointed upon opening
this highly anticipated figure to discover this very
discouraging flaw. Was there any reason behind this?
H: While we'd like to say that the Republic typically assigned
the small, lighter Clones to the scout trooper / speeder bike corps,
we realize that makes no sense. But we will say that any differences
in height are not intentional as all Clones are supposed to be the
same 6'0" height.
However, unfortunately, manufacture variances do
sometimes occur. One can start with the same size sculpt and still
end up with
some variances
as we
have seen before with some figures, however unintentional. These
variations tend to happen for several reasons.
1. Humidity does
play
a part in the molding processes. Typically, figures shrink aprox.
4% from our tooling models. But, this can vary.
2. When tools parts
are
finally assembled, they can fit together slightly differently
than originally intended, adding variety.
3. Removable helmets also
tend to pose difficulties. We sculpt heads separately, then make
a head
casting, then sculpt a helmet over the top of the cast head.
This
allows us to estimate the wall thickness necessary for a removable
piece.
But, this is an estimation and there are minimum requirements
for manufacturing. In some cases, the manufacturing vendor will
request to make the helmet
larger in production to increase the wall thickness. This causes
a big helmet look and creates aesthetic scale issues.
4. The
combination
of elements above can create combination variations.
5. The
final possibility
is there was an unintended mistake. And our hardworking
design, sculpting, and manufacturing elves just missed it.
YN: There have never been figures based on the later jedi knights
games! Seeing as there have recently been figures based on the
battlefront, force unleashed, kotor and republic commando games, is
there any chance that figures like Desan, Tavion, the reborn and
a
new KYLE KATARN could be incorporated into the line sometime in the
future as a 2 packs or carded figures?
H: There is a very good chance that Kyle Katarn will become a figure
at some point. Whether or not he is based on the Jedi Knights games
is TBD. The odds are longer on the others.
YN: Can you speak on the rumors that Hasbro Is working on a way
to
make the 2008 released FX Lightsabers in some form of plastic or cheaper
synthetic material as opposed to the metal we have seen from MR in
order to bring the cost down to something not only a collector would
buy but also a child?
H: Those rumors are false. We have an abundant supply of lightsabers
focused at kids already in the form of basic, electronic, The Force
Unleashed, Ultimate LS, etc. Our intention is to keep production
exactly the same, with the same materials, on a consistent and ongoing
basis. In addition, future FX sabers that we plan to introduce would
also be made of the same materials to form a contiguous collection.

Interesting Star Wars Painting!

Posted at Gizmodo.com:
This is what you get when you capture 69,550 full resolution frames
from the six Star Wars movies and combine them with a version of
DaVinci's Last Supper on a PC with mosaic-making software and a custom
matlab-based algorithm. The 262-megapixel mosaic (24,168 x 10,864
pixels) took two weeks to complete, including 30 hours of computing
power and manual retouching for the final version. Avinash Arora,
the guy who did it, tells us about the process.

The Saber Vault has only a few Luke

stock and ONE 501st Legion Clone Trooper Limited Edition, if you have
been on the fence with either of these, now is the time to grab them!

Star Wars Meets The Sopranos?
|
|
|
|
Posted at IGN.com:
As per usual with all Lucasfilm projects and especially
those with the name Star Wars, hard facts about the upcoming Star Wars
live-action series are hard to come by right now. However, a new report
on collider.com says they have gleaned some information.
Collider says that the show could be described as "Deadwood meets
The Sopranos" and is likely to feature gangsters and perhaps a
crime family. The recent revelation that Boba Fett will play a role
certainly opens the door for appearances by the established gangster
Jabba the Hutt, though it's hard to gauge whether he would be part
of this "crime family," at least in a Sopranos sense – though
scenes of a domestic Jabba and his Hutt wife and kids would certainly
be amusing. And how about Lobot taking on the role of the Lorraine
Bracco/Dr. Melfi type therapist for Jabba?
While it's still unclear where the live-action series will end up
airing, collider says Showtime and HBO are both contenders and the
show might follow the template of those types of cable series with
shorter seasons, made up of around 12 episodes. The report also says
that the upcoming The Clone Wars animated series is aimed more at children,
while the live-action series is more PG-13 and darker in nature. It
should be noted though that previously, George Lucas has described
The Clone Wars as also being PG-13 in tone.
George Lucas is reportedly very involved in both new series, and
is said to be going over all the scripts and giving notes. Collider
says
that within Lucasfilm both new series are considered official Star
Wars canon, unlike the majority of "Expanded Universe" stories.
One way that will be reflected is in the portrayal of Jedi, who will
not be as unstoppable and superheroic (in terms of abilities) as they
were portrayed in the earlier Clone Wars shorts, but more in line with
their powerful but far from invulnerable portrayal in the films.

Got Utapau Shadow Trooper Helmet? That was the question of the moment
last Wednesday as hundreds of computers flooded Razors Edge Collectibles
trying to get this final, exclusive Master Replicas Mini-Helmet. This

surrounding the staggered release of this exclusive collectible, and

Also this week, we discuss the recent news surrounding Gentle Giant's
method of validating Obi-Wan in Clone Armor statue owners for their

Portman Won't Get Married!
|
|
|
|
Posted at the TheDailyRecord.uk:
NATALIE PORTMAN has vowed never
to marry because she doesn't need a piece of paper to prove her love.
The Star Wars actress, who's dating fashion designer Nathan Bogle,
has
no intention of walking down the aisle.
Natalie, 26, also reckons the legal aspects in America are unfair
because gay couples don't have the same rights. "I'm into monogamy.
But I'm not really into marriage," says
Natalie.
"I hate the legal aspect - what does the state have to do with
it? "Why are they making rules that say my lover can stay in the
USA if they're foreign or share my health care benefits because I'm
straight - but if you're gay you can't?"
It's another principled stand by an actress keen to make a difference.

Star
Wars Galaxies: Long-Term Player Rewards!
|
|
|
|
Posted at Warcry.com:
For players who have met and crossed the fifty-seven month mark in
the Star Wars Galaxies, there is a great reward in store: A homing
beacon:
The homing beacon, the 57 month veteran reward, allows pilots in the
system to land their ships from the space station above their home.
Placing the beacon in a house or other building will mark that location
as a direct landing spot for any starship.
The homing beacon is a No Trade item that veterans can place in any
structure they own. This item can be placed in a structure like any
other piece of furniture or decoration and will automatically set the
structure as a landing zone.

From
Star Wars to Car Wars!
|
|
|
|
Posted at Stuff.co.nz:
Actor Temuera Morrison, who starred as Jake "The Muss" Heke
in Once Were Warriors, is taking to the track for a new motorsport
series. The New Zealand V8 Ute Racing Series is to kick off
in Timaru on April 4, with five rounds to follow, including Taupo and
Feilding.
Others who will be getting into the drivers' seats include rugby
match streaker Lisa Lewis and former world superbike champion Aaron
Slight. Morrison, 46, said race organisers had called him
when they were looking for someone else's number, but he grabbed
the opportunity.
Now he saw a chance to join a grand tradition of Hollywood actors
who took to motorsport. "I see myself as the Paul Newman
of New Zealand," he
joked, citing Steve McQueen and Cary Grant as other famous faces
who got behind
the wheel.
He has not been a lifelong car fanatic, but picked up the habit
in the United States. "We didn't have a lot of money in my upbringing
in Rotorua. We only had the Vauxhall Velox.
"But then I got into it when I was going to Hollywood and
LA and seeing all the cars over there." His carbon footprint
was no problem though - after owning a rare 5.7-litre Holden V8 ute
about 10 years ago, he had cut back these days.
"It's all gone. I've got no cars now, I'm driving nothing."
The biggest appeals of the track were the "speed, handling,
noise - all the brmm brmm stuff". Footing it with skilled
drivers would be a challenge, especially with little time left for
training. "I'll
be trying not to come last."
And despite having new (and confidential) acting deals on the table,
a career switch was always an option for the Ford rookie. "I
might get picked up to go race in Australia, you never know. What's
the money like?"
Race spokesman Jamie Kett said it was exciting to have Morrison
involved. "I
knew Tem personally and what a great personality he is. "Plus
he has had previous motorsport experience, and it can't hurt being
a Star Wars fighter pilot."

Review:
Darth Sidious – Senate Duel (Sideshow Exclusive)
|
|
|
|
The duel with Mace Windu was a shatterpoint for the fabric of the
Old Republic-era Star Wars universe. In those moments, everything changed.
Order 66 was issued, condemning the vast majority of the Jedi to immediate
execution. Anakin Skywalker fell from grace, and Darth Vader was born.
The duplicitous “mask” of Palpatine melted away in a torrent
of Sith lightning, revealing the twisted deformed face of Darth Sidious,
Dark Lord of the Sith and tyrannical ruler of the Galactic Empire.
That same demonic visage can be found on the subject of this review.
Today, we conclude our examination of Sideshow Collectibles’ first
1/6th scale two-pack with an in-depth look at Darth Sidious as he appeared
during his all-too-brief duel with Yoda in the Senate Rotunda.
True to the nature of the character itself, the quality of the portrait
sculpt is deceptive. It appears flat, dull, and lifeless when viewed
in full light. It looks boring and far from menacing. That, readers,
is an illusion. The strength of this sculpt is not found in the paint
applications (save for the Sith eyes). Instead, it is found in the
finely crafted nuances of the folds and crevices of the portrait. Those
seemingly-innocuous details make phenomenal use of the interplay between
shadows and light when under natural and controlled lighting situations.
By both reflecting light off the pale flesh paint and purging entire
regions into shadow, the true menace of the portrait emerges. Every
shift of the light brings out entirely different perceptions of Darth
Sidious. It is so effective that the facial expression itself seems
to change each time. Perhaps most surprising of all, certain lighting
conditions even make this face look very much like the leaner, more
emaciated Palpatine of Episode VI—a welcome bonus for owners.
Furthermore, it looks as though sculptor Oluf Hartvigson took a very
realistic approach to fashioning the Sidious portrait. Comparing the
shape of the face and its expressions strongly indicate that the Palpatine
portrait was the foundation with Sidious’ deformities sculpted
on top of that base portrait (or sculpted directly into the Palpatine
base). If true, then this approach is a novel yet practical way to
simulate the real-life prosthetics worn by McDiarmid.

Minatures
Preview: Canderous Ordo!
|
|
|
|
Posted at StarWars.com:
The galaxy is a tough place, especially 4,000 years before the events
of A New Hope. That was an era where the Republic, the Jedi, the Sith,
and the Mandalorians frequently got into scraps with whole planets
laid waste as collateral damage. One of the toughest customers from
this tough era is Canderous Ordo, a big bruiser of a Mandalorian bounty
hunter and merc. Gamers who've played Star Wars: Knights of the Old
Republic can attest that he's not all talk -- he's got the firepower
to back up anything he says.
Now gamers who play the table-top Star Wars: Miniatures game from Wizards
of the Coast have the opportunity to throw Canderous Ordo into the
mix, as he's one of the 60 pre-painted miniatures randomly packed into
their Star Wars: Legacy of the Force expansion set. The Legacy of the
Force set picks from the entire Star Wars saga, including heroes and
villains from the Legacy era, set more than a century after the events
of A New Hope. As is evident with Canderous, it also goes into the
distant past of the saga as well.
Here's a preview of Canderous' miniature, plus his character card
which details his game-play statistics. Star Wars: Miniatures is a
standalone game for playing table-top battles, or it can be used to
enhance your Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game experiences. Or, if you
just like looking at bookshelves teeming with plastic armies, they
make great collectibles as well. For more information about this and
other products from Wizards of the Coast, visit their website here.

Utapau
Shadow Trooper Mini Helmet Update!
|
|
|
|
Plese read below for a major update to the ordering process for the
Utapau Shadow Trooper Mini Helmet from Mike at RazorsEdgeCollectibles.com:
Hi Everyone,
As all of you know, the sale of our Utapau Shadowtrooper Mini Helmet
Exclusive kicked off today, which we have been planning for the last
2 months. We had a plan in place to be sure these got into the hands
of the collector.
Fortunately, the demand was high, unfortunately we ended up crashing
our server, and
several other servers in our hosting company. Due to today’s
problems, we can not continue doing the sales at the specified days
and times listed.
As our customers know, we sell hundreds of items other than this helmet.
We can not have our website be taken down several hours per day for
one single product. So we came up with a solution. We realize this
may not be suitable for everyone, but unfortunately at this time, this
is the only way we can approach this.
In the next few hours, we will be checking and processing all orders
which were received
today. Any order which was successfully placed in our system is guaranteed.
(You can check your account history to see if your order was placed).
We will also be cross referencing all orders with credit cards and
Paypal payments and adjusting when necessary (this covers credits and
debits). As well as, those orders which
contained more than 2 helmets by accident. These orders will be reduced
to 2 and you will be credited back.
For those of you who had 2 helmets in your cart and were only able
to checkout and purchase 1, this was due to the limited stock which
was available at the time of checkout.
There were some orders which were successfully placed but your credit
card and/or Paypal payment did not complete properly. Your order will
be honored and you will receive an email directly from us with instructions
on how to complete it.
The remaining allocation of helmets (approximately 360 pieces) will
be put up for sale directly on Ebay on Tuesday, March 11th at 2 PM

THE
FORCE IS STRONG AT WIZARD WORLD L.A!
|
|
|
|
The Force will be strong at this year’s Wizard World Los Angeles,
the 3-day family friendly pop culture and comic convention being held
at the L.A. Convention Center March 14-16. Prequel stars Ray Park (Darth
Maul) and Daniel Logan (Young Boba Fett) will be attending the convention
to sign autographs and talk to fans about their characters’ places
in the franchise. The duo appears courtesy of Galactic Productions.
Additionally, Zachariah Jensen, who portrayed Jedi Master Kit Fisto,
will be on hand to keep the Sith in their place while greeting fans
as well. Also, Lucasfilm will be represented by its Director of Fan
Relations, Steve Sansweet, who is hosting panels on Saturday and Sunday.
Members of the famed Star Wars fan club The 501st Vader’s Fist
will be available for photos and The New York and LA Jedi will be performing
lightsaber demonstrations throughout the weekend.
Sansweet’s panels on March 15 at 1:30 p.m. and March 16 at 11
a.m. will showcase the exciting year that's coming for fans of the
beloved Star Wars saga. He is bringing a sneak peek for Wizard World
attendees of the eagerly awaited animated television series, “Star
Wars: The Clone Wars.” He will be sharing insights into the project
from those closest to the creative process and the series development.
Additionally, Sansweet will provide a glimpse of the game play from “Star
Wars: The Force Unleashed,” the ground-breaking new game from
LucasArts that promises to make players feel like they are inside the
next chapter of the Star Wars Saga.
Finally, with the release of the upcoming “Indiana Jones and
the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” on May 22, the panels would
not be complete without at least a few exclusive tidbits from the highly
anticipated next chapter of the Indy story.
“What can be said that has not already been said about fan love
for all things Star Wars,” said Wizard Entertainment Senior Vice
President of Operations Joe Yanarella. “We are thrilled to be
able to bring this panel to our attendees for a look at the next chapter
of the Star Wars Saga. It is a great addition to our programming lineup.”

Star
Wars Action News Update
|
|
|
|
This week on Star Wars Action News we have musician Richard Cheese.
Perhaps most famous for his version of "Get Down With The Sickness" which
plays in the movie Dawn of the Dead, Richard has long been a Star Wars
fan. On his latest album, Dick at Night, he has even included a version
of the Imperial March! We talk to Richard about how he swank-ifies
all the classic hits on his albums, as well as his affinity for Star
Wars. Listen to the interview, and then head over to www.richardcheese.com
to buy the album!
Also this week, Marjorie and Arnie discuss their latest toy finds
and how a recent figure may just help Star Trek customizers with their
collections, and we also look at the Hallmark Star Wars Valentines
Day music cards. Scott From Tulsa gives us a store report, and The
Ginger Prince gives us an update on his collecting efforts in the UK.
Finally, Nathan P. Butler returns to give us a rundown on all the
recent and upcoming EU happenings, as well as another Expanded Universe
character focus, this time focusing on a very recent Comic 2-pack!
With an e-bay item of the week that has to be seen to believed, you'll
find it all on this week's Star Wars Action News.
And next week, Star Wars Action News will be hosting panels and a
booth at the Dallas All-Con, as well as having a Star Wars Action News
dinner on Saturday night. If interested, come by our forums and find

Review:
Supreme Chancellor Palpatine (Sideshow Exclusive)
|
|
|
|
He was the kindly uncle, and he was the sinister stranger. He
was the reluctant leader, and he was the manipulative mastermind. He
was the saint and the serpent. He would lead the Republic to
glorious victory and then obliterate its existence with the institution
of the Galactic Empire. He would do all these things by being
a master of duplicity, by being both Supreme Chancellor Palpatine and
Darth Sidious.
While the Skywalker family gets the most attention in the Star Wars
universe, this diabolical Dark Lord of the Sith is arguably the most
dynamic and intriguing character in the cinematic saga, and much
of the credit for that achievement must go to Ian McDiarmid’s stellar
performance.
His portrayal of the Sith Lord and his “benign” alter
ego lulled characters and audiences alike into a false sense of trust
and security before revealing the depths of the character’s darkness.
So it seems appropriate that Sideshow Collectibles selected this
two-in-one character as the first genuine two-pack entry in the
1/6th scale figure
collection (the Endor Soldier trio were simply three figures mailed
together).
At a price of $120, some collectors cried foul and insisted the
price should be lower since they were selling two of the same
character. One
look at these figures, however, shows that they are very much different
and could easily have been two separate releases at a reasonable $60
each.
In the first half of this product review, we will examine Supreme
Chancellor Palpatine as he appeared the fateful night the Jedi
Order was all but
eradicated.

'Trek'
vs. 'Wars': The space battle heats up!
|
|
|
|
Posted at DeseretNews.com
Thanks to Hollywood, there will be yet another round in the continuing
Trekkers vs. Star Warriors battle.
For those who don't recognize the terms, the former are devotees
of the "Star Trek" television series and films. The latter are
aficionados of George Lucas' "Star Wars" trilogies. And there's
been a long-running feud between the sets of fans as to which science-fiction
property is actually better.
Perhaps two upcoming movies will finally settle the score. Lucasfilm
is involved in yet another series of "prequel" projects.
A digitally animated "Star Wars: Clone Wars" feature will
be released theatrically Aug. 15.
The film will be released in the 3-D format and is meant to be
the lead-in for a "Clone Wars" series on Cartoon Network
(as well as repeat airings on TNT).
"Clone Wars" fits between the second and third movie
prequels and features Anakin Skywalker as one of the characters.
Anthony Daniels
will reprise his role as the voice of android C-3PO, but no other voice
cast members have been announced.

Portman
shocked by Prince Charles' Star Wars question!
|
|
|
|
Posted at Sify.com:
Star Wars actress Natalie Portman, who met Prince Charles at the London
premiere of the first Star Wars prequel, was shocked when he asked
if she had starred in the original movies.
She said: "I met Prince Charles at the royal premiere of the
first Star Wars prequel. He asked me, 'Were you in the original films?'"
Portman is 26-years-old and wasn't even born when the first two original
movies Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back were released in 1977
and 1980. She was two when The Return of the Jedi was released, contactmusic.com
reports.

Hayden
Has No Qualms With Vader!
|
|
|
|
In a recent article posted at WSBTV.com there
was a quote at the end we thought the readers here would like where
Hayden claims he is proud
to have his Star Wars life follow him wherever he goes. That should
put to bed rumors that Hayden was trying to shake the fact that he
is and will forever be known for playing Anakin/Vader:
"Obviously, 'Star Wars' was a huge opportunity for me and
opened a lot of doors, but just on a basic cool level, I got to play
Darth
Vader," Christensen enthused. "It's not often where you get
to work on a film and run around everyday with a lightsaber ... I really
have no qualms about that character following me for the rest of my
life." - Hayden Christensen

Tanya
Donelly: On Fables and Star Wars!
|
|
|
|
Posted at StarWars.com by Bonnie Burton:
Singer (and former member of Throwing Muses, The Breeders and Belly)
Tanya Donelly understands how to spin a tale through lyrics. So when
we chatted with the Grammy-nominated songwriter about the fables and
myths that Star Wars represented we were all ears. Of course, her story
about running from cars intrigued us as well.
What was your first introduction to Star Wars?
My brother Christopher saw Star Wars before me, and came home glassy-eyed
and blown away. I went the next day, and came home the same way. Christopher
and I used to play Star Wars in the street until well after dusk, and
we would run from headlights, pretending the cars were Imperial destroyers!
Which Star Wars film made you become a fan?
The first film -- A New Hope -- made me a fan. It was just so visually
amazing, especially for the time. I'd never seen anything like it.
And the characters were great -- funny, strong, fallible, sometimes
brave, and sometimes selfish.
Which Star Wars film scene is your favorite?
I wouldn't say this is my favorite scene, but one that stood out for
me was Leia watching her planet explode. I remember being very shocked
by that as a kid.

Lucas
at Hip-Hop Awards!
|
|
|
|
Posted at NyDailyNews.com:
Amid all the rappers hanging at Capitale Monday night was one seemingly
out-of-place bearded film icon: George Lucas. The "Star Wars" director
turned up at the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network awards dinner with his
girlfriend, honoree Mellody Hobson.
Hobson, who is the president of Ariel Capital Management, an investment
firm managing more than $14 billion in assets, shared the awards stage
with Snoop Dogg, Ciara, Doug E. Fresh, rapper Jim Jones and 50 Cent's
manager, Chris Lighty. Hip-hop and R&B stars waxed philosophical
as they were given awards not for their beats, but their feats for
the good of others.
