Hyperspace Launches Comics.

Beginning October 4, Hyperspace members will have access to not one, but four exclusive comic strip serials.  Two - The Bounty Hunter of Ord Mantell and Gambler's World - are reprints from the 1970's/1980's, and the other two, Reversal of Fortune and A Hunter's Fate: Greedo's Tale are original works.  New installments will appear every weekday.  Check out the synopses of these comic strips at Starwars.com.

Revenge of the Sith: Could it be PG-13?

USA Today posts a great article on Episode III's potential rating in an article from Monday's edition. Here's an excerpt from the article. Hopefully we'll know more soon!

A move to that rating for Sith isn't likely to hurt attendance. Those with children ages 10 and 11 might think twice, says Paul Dergarabedian of box office tracking firm Exhibitor Relations, "but their kids probably already have video games at home that are PG-13 in violence levels."

A PG-13 would bring Star Wars in line with such blockbusters as the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Want-to-see for the episode, which will complete the saga, is high. The first five Star Wars films rank among the top-grossing U.S. movies ever. Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope is No. 2 ($461 million) and Episode I: The Phantom Menace No. 5 ($431 million). The three others are in the top 25. And interest in the franchise remains strong, as consumers spent $115 million worldwide last Tuesday when The Star Wars Trilogy DVD box set and Star Wars Battlefront video game went on sale. Video Business magazine estimates 2 million DVDs were sold.

Ewok Adventures DVDs Coming Soon!

After the cinematic adventures of the original Star Wars trilogy ended in 1983, audiences were still eager to visit the far-away galaxy. They got their chance through a pair of made-for-television movies starring the furry heroes from the forest moon of Endor, the Ewoks. Caravan of Courage and The Battle for Endor tell the story of young Cindel Towani (Aubree Miller), whose family has crash-landed on Endor. She is protected by the brave Ewoks from the dangers that lurk in the forests. The first film, directed by John Korty, has Cindel and her brother Mace (Eric Walker) looking for their parents, who have been captured by the giant Gorax. The second film, directed by Jim and Ken Wheat, unleashes the fearsome Marauders against the Ewoks, as Cindel meets a helpful forest hermit named Noa (Wilford Brimley). Both films star Warwick Davis as Wicket the Ewok, and feature award-winning visual effects by Industrial Light & Magic. The DVD double-feature containing both films is scheduled for release on November 23, 2004.

The article features images of some of the cards in the series as well as some of the sketch cards drawn by the various artists. Already, ILM veterans Dennis Muren and Lorne Peterson have set aside time from their busy schedules to chat with fans. This Friday, Paul Huston logs on to chat with Fan Club members. Huston worked on the very first Star Wars film as a storyboard artist and modelmaker. Since then, he has also done work as a cameraman and visual effects art director. He has worked extensively with the ILM matte department throughout his career, and was on the forefront of the transition from traditional matte painting to digital matte painting.

AP Interview with Lucas!

With the US release of the DVDs less than a week away, George Lucas is again the center of attention. One Of his most recent interviews with the AP (located here) had the snippet below about the future of Star Wars after Episode III:

 

 

 

AP: After "Episode III," will you ever revisit "Star Wars"?

 

Lucas: Ultimately, I'm going to probably move it into television and let other people take it. I'm sort of preserving the feature film part for what has happened and never go there again, but I can go off into various offshoots and things. You know, I've got offshoot novels, I've got offshoot comics. So it's very easy to say, "Well, OK, that's that genre, and I'll find a really talented person to take it and create it." Just like the comic books and the novels are somebody else's way of doing it. I don't mind that. Some of it might turn out to be pretty good. If I get the right people involved, it could be interesting.

"When Star Wars Ruled the World" will premiere on VH1 next weekend at 10pm, chronicling the making of the classic trilogy. Complete with interviews from a large list of Star Wars cast, creators and fans, this hour-long documentary will take viewers back to the days when whole world wanted to wield a light saber. Also, don't forget that A&E will have an encore presentation of the Star Wars special Empire of Dreams this Sunday night September 19th at 12:00 pm.
