I met up with Mark (Grobo) today at
the Chicago Comic Con and now that it is over we are both wondering why
neither of us had ever attended a con like this before. We were just
amazed at all the people who dressed up in costumes and the countless
number of vendors that sold comic books, toys and all the collectibles we
love. (I think Grobo is trying to get me into the Gentle Giant busts!)
This was the first time I was able to see any GG busts or even any
Sideshow products and I have to say that they all look simply amazing. The
detail is dead on incredible and I may just have to add a few of these to
the collection.
We had the pleasure of meeting both Ray Park (Darth Maul) and Daniel Logan
(Boba Fett). Both Ray and Daniel were very eager to sit down with us and
answer a few questions. They are a couple of great guys and were there to
support a great cause. The Star Wars actors support a charity that helps
in the awareness of organ and tissue donation and both Ray and Daniel have
made great strides in their cause. Keep up the great work guys!
The vendor showing in Chicago was not all that great. As we all may know,
the San Diego con most likely had everything to do with this. We did not
get to see many new products in the Star Wars universe but we did score a
few comic-related freebies along the way and had a blast the entire day. A
lot of the vendors and attendees that noticed our mean green yodasnews
T-shirts commented that they have heard of the site before and have
visited us in the past. That is always nice to hear.
We were able to see a huge showing of the 501st Legion today. Many were
there to celebrate a special day for Doug Wangler. He was inducted into
the 501st Legion as an honorary member. Doug is the model actor used in
the creation and design of comic book legend Quinlan Vos. He was awarded
an official plaque for his newfound membership while being surrounded by
countless Stormtroopers, Snowtroopers, a couple of Darth Vaders, a few
Boba Fetts and even a Gammorean Guard. A very cool spectacle and a great
photo opportunity for all the spectators.
At the end of the day Grobo and I both agreed that we'd see each other at
the next Chicago Comic Con in 2007. We had a great time and would
definitely go back again for another adventure. Thanks for reading.
