Throughout 2007, we have closely examined one of the most interesting and collector-friendly sub-lines of the entire modern Star Wars toy era. The McQuarrie Signature Series brought us some real grand slams such as Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker, and the droids, but it also came with some surprising disappointments (Darth Vader immediately springs to mind). Regardless, this was a bold leap for Hasbro, and the line as a whole was quite a hit with collectors.

But alas, all things come to an end, and today Yodasnews brings you the final review of the McQuarrie Signature Series: the Rebel Trooper.

Star Wars Celebration Japan to Mark 30th Anniversary of the Star Wars Saga!

Three-Day Event at Makuhari-Messe Convention Center Near Tokyo July 19 to 21 Will Be Filled with Entertainment, Celebrities, Exhibits, Immersive Events, Costumes and Much More

Celebrating the Japanese 30th anniversary of Star Wars, Lucasfilm Ltd. and The Lewis Daniel Group will present the first-ever Star Wars Celebration event in the Asia-Pacific region from July 19 to 21 at the Makuhari-Messe Convention Center near Tokyo.

Expected to be one of the largest events ever for fans of the Star Wars Saga, Star Wars Celebration Japan will begin a little more than 30 years after the movie premiered in Japan on June 24, 1978.

The three-day event will be filled with live entertainment, celebrities, special presentations, unique Star Wars exhibits, exclusive merchandise, pop-culture tributes, immersive events, costume contests, and many additional activities.

Star Wars Celebration Japan will take place from Saturday, July 19, through Monday, July 21, which is Ocean Day, a national holiday. Moreover, the three-day weekend marks the start of the summer school holiday for children throughout the country, making Star Wars Celebration Japan the perfect way for multiple generations of fans to enjoy this unprecedented experience together.

The Makuhari-Messe is a world-class, modern convention and exhibition center located conveniently in Chiba prefecture on the main rail line between downtown Tokyo and Narita Airport. There are several major hotels within a few minutes' walk of the center.

"Star Wars has enjoyed incredible popularity in Japan for three decades, and we are honored to show our appreciation to Japanese audiences on this milestone anniversary of the movie's opening there," said Steve Sansweet, Director of Content Management and Head of Fan Relations for Lucasfilm.

Fans and collectors will find new lines of collectibles from Museum Replicas and their new licensing division Windlass Studios in 2008; it was announced today by Museum Replicas. Lucas Licensing’s STAR WARS replica clothing and armor licensee will assume the design and production of the high-end, collectible ensembles and full sets of the iconic armor including stormtrooper and bounty hunter armor.

Museum Replica’s line will debut in the spring and continues the remarkable popularity of high-end collectibles for discerning STAR WARS enthusiasts. The line will feature replica clothing and armor of such unforgettable characters as Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Maul, Padmé Amidala, Anakin Skywalker, Boba Fett, Han Solo and Princess Leia.

Newly formed Windlass Studios will develop, manufacture and distribute collectible, limited-edition replicas of full-sized and wearable ensembles. They expect the first ensembles to be available for pre-order in the spring while the armor is set to be unveiled for the first time at San Diego Comic-Con International in July.

Hank Steinbrenner isn't happy the Boston Red Sox are World Series champions and the New York Yankees are chasing.

"We'd rather be Darth Vader. Let them be the underdog," the Yankees' senior vice-president said Wednesday during his team's first full-squad workout of the year. New York had won nine consecutive AL East titles before the Red Sox finished first last season. Boston then won its second World Series title in four years.

Alex Rodriguez, who joined the Yankees in 2004, likes not being the favourite.

"This is the first year since I've been here in five years that we're not the team to beat and I think it's a good position to be in," A-Rod said.

Before the workout, new manager Joe Girardi spoke to his entire team for the first time. Not since Buck Showalter in 1995 had a manager other than Joe Torre given the opening address.

"He's actually got a little different walk when he comes in. Mr. T had that sort of little slow movement coming in," Yankees captain Derek Jeter said. "It sunk in. You realize that Mr. T's moved on and Joe's here."

Then, in 1999 she began her work on the Jedi Apprentice series, chronicling the adventures of Qui-Gon Jinn and his young Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi. This segued into the Jedi Quest series, featuring Obi-Wan and young Anakin Skywalker, which was then followed by the Last of the Jedi series.

The Washington DC Metro Area Star Wars Collecting Club (DCSWCC) held its 5th annual Winter Social on February 9th, 2008 in Laurel, MD.

St. Mary of the Mills reception hall was the location for this annual gathering of DCSWCC members, families, and guests. In addition to the requisite potluck feast fit for a Hutt, activities included a trivia contest, children's games, collectibles raffle, and the traditional White Wampa gift exchange.

The highlight of the afternoon, however, was a very special visit from VIP guest John Morton, who played Luke's snowspeeder tailgunner Dack Ralter in The Empire Strikes Back. Not only did Mr. Morton take on the whole raffle by himself, he also regaled the group and answered questions about his days on the sets of classic films including Star Wars Episode V, Flash Gordon, and Superman II.

DCSWCC is one of the largest and most active collecting clubs in America, with over 75 members. The club meets monthly and holds special events such as socials and "Roadshow" appraisal events throughout the year. In the coming years you can expect DCSWCC to continue its rich history of high-quality exclusive merchandise and charity fundraisers.

Check out our Gallery of the Funko Star Wars items that were on display on Sunday. The Star Wars line will continue with a lot of great additions this year (including some with vehicles) but the Blue Harvest/Family Guy Star Wars will only include the 3 shown here, there are no plans to continue the line beyond the three. So if you were waiting for a Obi, Han or Leia, as of this posting there are no plans to extend the line beyond the three shown.

Cartamundi broke into the Star Wars world in 2007 with several playing card sets as well as the very cool Light Up Poker Chip set we reviewed here. In 2008 they have some great plans in store which include "The Ladies of Star Wars" Card set as well as a "Famous Quotes" set (which will also double as a mini-trivia game) that will be in stores in a few weeks!

They also have a  new Heroes and Villains Vehicle 2-pack which has some amazing custom artwork on the cards! They are also looking to put out the very popular Death Star Metal Dealer Button as well as the chips in smaller sets, more news on this as we get it, click below to see the box designs for the new sets.

They are also doing some great new items for Indiana Jones (which will cover the new and the old films) as well as 007!

Kotobukiya again had some amazing items for us to see this year. The big news is that they did get the rights to the new Clone Wars Animated series and we can look to see the first wave of the "Semi-Animated" Clone Wars figures this fall. There were none on hand for us to see but the reps at Koto said we should see some in the next few months and the first in the line should be out around the time of SDCC.

On display were the new Indy Items as well as the IG-88 and Zuckuss but they asked that we did not shoot them, but they look great. They also have a new Vader as well as a new Indy 3-D on tap that we will feature later this week. Click below to see what Koto has on display in New York.

The first stop today was the Hasbro booth. Arnie and Marjorie got samplings of the concurrent lines of figures including animated style Clone Wars figures and the realistic style of The Legacy Collection. Many vehicles, mutlipacks, and other products await us. If 2007 was the year of the ewoke, 2008 is Year of the Droid at Hasbro. Our collecting duo also swung by the Lego booth to see all the great sets coming out with tie ins to both The Force Unleashed and The Clone Wars.

Also, some news I'm not overjoyed about, but it's all part of the world we live in, the manufacturing/material prices went up on us for '08, so we need to bump the price of the keys to $35. It's already a low-margin item for us, so we can't afford not to adjust the price when we incur an increase for manufacture/material. Sorry about that, not what we want to do, but it's an necessary step!

Three years after the last "Star Wars" installment showed us the downfall of Anakin Skywalker, George Lucas himself has finally gone over to the Dark Side: TV.

Lucasfilm announced on Tuesday (February 12) that "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," a computer-animated adventure that takes place between Episodes II and III — "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith," respectively — will be released theatrically August 15. The stories will continue as an animated series, first on Cartoon Network and then on TNT.

"I felt there were a lot more 'Star Wars' stories left to tell," Lucas said in a statement. "I was eager to start telling some of them through animation and, at the same time, push the art of animation forward."

The stories take place almost immediately before the events of "Revenge of the Sith," during the so-called "Clone Wars," a galaxywide battle fought by the Republic, led by Jedis, and the Separatists, led by General Grievous and controlled by the Sith.

But while a lot of the action and characters will be familiar to most fans of the series, a majority of the voices won't. Lucas has decided to move forward without many of his most recognizable stars behind the mic.

"That'd be great for me, I would love to," Samuel L. Jackson, who played Jedi Mace Windu, enthused. "Yeah, [there's interest]."

Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin in "Sith" and "Clones," told MTV News that he hasn't been called to participate in the project, but expressed his interest to do so all the same.

" I'd be happy to do the voice," he said. "That'd be a neat thing for me to do. So tell them to ask me about that."

For fans of the movie trilogies, the "Clone Wars" series seems to be a minefield of potential continuity errors. Of major note is the appearance of Ahsoka Tano, a young Togruta, who becomes Anakin's Padawan apprentice. Not only is there no mention of Ahsoka in any other installment, hard-core "Star Wars" fans could tell you that, as he's not a full-fledged Jedi master, Anakin shouldn't even have an apprentice at all.

A new era of Star Wars entertainment begins in 2008 when Star Wars: The Clone Wars, from creator George Lucas, premieres as an all-new feature film in August, followed by the television series debut in the fall, in a partnership announced today between Lucasfilm Ltd., Warner Bros. Pictures and Turner Broadcasting System Inc.

Produced by Lucasfilm Animation, Star Wars: The Clone Wars takes audiences on incredible new Star Wars adventures, combining the legendary storytelling of Lucasfilm with an eye-popping, signature animation style. Star Wars: The Clone Wars will open in North American theaters Friday, August 15. International release dates will be announced soon.

The theatrical debut of Star Wars: The Clone Wars is only the beginning of all-new Star Wars adventures that continue in the fall when the long-awaited television series premieres on Cartoon Network, followed by airings on TNT. Details regarding international broadcasts will be announced shortly. You’ve got to admire any actor who essentially told George Lucas he’d be happy to do anything in a “Star Wars” movie. And not only that, but Samuel L. Jackson is sounding like he’s still up for being a part of the franchise in whatever form it takes.

As we all know the “Star Wars” saga is far from over with not one but two television series in development. The live action series is set to take place after the events of Episode III meaning a Mace Windu appearance ain’t looking so likely BUT there’s always the new CGI animated Clone Wars series.

And Sam Jackson sounds game to return.”Yeah, absolutely,” Jackson told MTV News today when asked if he’s interested in voicing the Mace Windu character in the new series. “I would love to,” Jackson said when asked if he’s ready to be the ill-fated Jedi warrior once again. Most exciting of all? Jackson confirmed that Lucas and company have expressed interest. “I have talked to them about it,” he said.”A lot of people love that character,” Jackson continued, pondering the continuing adventures of the only Jedi on record to wield a purple lightsaber.

BioWare is apparently not involved, while LucasArts' MMO will run alongside the Star Wars TV series...

Rumor has it that a new Star Wars MMO is in development at LucasArts, and is scheduled to launch alongside the live-action Star Wars TV series towards the end of 2009. The MMO's plot will supposedly follow the same storylines as the TV series.

The rumors also suggest that this MMO will not be developed by BioWare or Sony Online Entertainment.

BioWare does currently have an untitled MMO in development, as well as an apparently unrelated project with LucasArts (details of which are sparse to say the least).

Previous rumors have suggested that the untitled BioWare MMO might be a Star Wars game, or even based on the Knights of the Old Republic universe.

If there is any substance behind the latest rumors, then this sheds significant doubt on BioWare's involvement in any type of MMO Star Wars game. BioWare's MMO may not be related to LucasArts' whatsoever, while the Canadian developer's LucasArts project may not even be an MMO.

Few specific details have been released about the first live-action Star Wars TV series since its announcement in 2005. However, it will set between the end of the new trilogy, and the start of the old trilogy featuring characters from the expanded Star Wars universe.

This rumored Star Wars MMO game by LucasArts will supposedly be released on PC and consoles. It was also pointing out that LucasArts has another MMO in development that is not based on the Star Wars universe.

Yodasnews was very sorry to hear that John Alvin died suddenly yesterday of a heart attack. For those that had the chance to meet John at C4 they know he was amazingly gracious and kind.He always took the time to meet all his fans and really was terrific to be around. He will be greatly missed in the community. You can read the announcement of his passing here and his family has set up a memorial area for him on the website which you can visit here. May he rest in peace.

Obi-Wan Kenobi in Clone Trooper Armor Mini Bust has a total edition size of 5000 pieces and stands 6.5 inches tall and 7.5inches tall with lightsaber.

There will be multiple options collectors will be able to acquire Obi-Wan for their collections.

The first option is through Gentle Giant Ltd. directly. Since this piece is a companion piece to the statue, 2500 pieces will be allocated for this purpose. Both Anakin and Han Solo get sized and measured over at Sideshow Collectibles. Okay well they get sized at least. The Regular Edition Premium Format Anakin Skywalker is limited to just 1000 pieces while the 1/6th scale Han Solo Smuggler regular edition is limited to 3000 pieces.
Going round and round with Luke and Emperor Palpatine is just what the doctor ordered to satiate our collector lust. The 360 QTVR for the 1/6th scale ANH Luke can be seen here and the 360 QTVR for the 1:1 bust of Emperor Palpatine can be viewed here.

Keith Dixon, 40, from West Sussex, is to launch the Lounger, an armchair that floats on magnets, next month and says he has already had inquiries about it from all over the world.

“Sitting on it is an incredible sensation,” he said. “You are defying gravity.”

The chair comprises a base and a see-through acrylic seat. Magnets attached to the base and the seat repel each other, forcing the seat to float at a height of up to 14in. A pair of connecting rods stops the seat shooting off sideways but allows it to move up and down.

The Lounger has taken Dixon four years to design and develop at a cost of tens of thousands of pounds. It is due to go on sale on March 14 at £5,875. He plans a limited initial run of 2,000 through his company, Hoverit.

He was inspired by the Landspeeder vehicles that hover over the ground in the Star Wars films. “I remember clearly watching Star Wars as a small boy and being absolutely fascinated by the sand vehicle . . . I really wanted to levitate and I just knew I could make it happen,” he said. He joined forces with Steven Wild, a computer-design expert from Cambridge, who said: “It was a real Dragon’s Den deal.”

On Sunday, we announced our first few prizes for our Anniversay Celebration. We recieved a lot of questions from readers, most of them asking what they could send in if they were not fans of the SuperBowl or did not watch it. Since we don't want to leave anyone out, we have made a few updates.

If you already sent in your pictures, you are fine, there is no need to re-submit them. But if you did not because you didnt have time or did not watch the game, you are in luck. You can now send in a picture of you enjoying anything you might like to do that is relaxing to you and you will be entered to win our first Prize, (the MR Yoda FX Saber) all you need to do is send an e-mail to yodasnewsanniversary@gmail.com and attach a picture as described above (and the Super Bowl Picture is still valid as well).

Hey folks, Harry here... According to the highly reliable folks at Action-Figure.Com it seems that in the UK, at least, the first 3 episodes of Lucasfilm's animated CLONE WARS - will get theatrical distribution of the 90 minute film. Will the U.S. get the same treatment? God, I hope so. That'd rule! I could imagine Lucas doing this for Digital Theaters only - plus earning some extra coin. Thanks goes to Tolomey for this awesome Super Bowl day rumor!

Longtime fan. Regarding the animated Star Wars feature..... my buddy works for a company that has the license to this property. Word is the feature is actually gonna be 4 episodes and will be released sometime in spring (around the time of Indy).

However, according to a report at Rebelscum.com which can be read here, there has been no Lucasfilm decision regarding this and there certainly has been no date set for anything and that was direct from Lucasfilm so for now, we will have to chalk this up to rumor until we hear more!

With a seemingly-endless string of powerhouse pieces, Hot Toys has quickly become a major power in the 1/6 scale realm. They have developed a reputation as a company who fearlessly takes on the projects from which others have shied: the Aliens Power Loader, ED-209, and a myriad of hyper-realistic human portraits from properties such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Rocky. So it should come as little surprise that the on-line collecting community buzzed with more electricity than Darth Sidious when they announced the acquisition of a Star Wars license.

Could it be the armored figures that Sideshow had (and still have) not released and Medicom has produced in an off-kilter scale? Given their successes with the Aliens and Robocop lines, perhaps they were the ones who could and would manufacture a true 1/6 scale articulated General Grievous?? What could they possibly be planning to give us???

The next Yodasnews Hasbro Q&A:

YN: As you also seem willing to answer questions about your Indiana Jones line, I have a question pertaining to the Indy figures. As there aren't as many characters (as compared to Star Wars) from the films to make in action figure form is there any chance that the "Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" would be fodder for figures? I don't see many figures from the series being made myself but a few suggestions would be: 8 year old Indy in knickers, young Henry Sr., Anna Jones, Helen Seymour, 18 year old Indy in "Mexico adventure" clothing, 18 year old Indy in Belgian army uniform, and his friend Remy. Just curious if we are likely to see such figures.?

H: We are indeed looking at Young Indy, and we do like some of the concepts there. We think, though, that there is a lot of iconic film reference to go before we probably look to it. We are planning IJ for a nice long run, so we are optimistic that someday we will see something related to Young Indy.

YN: What do you think about making a tribute/maybe exclusive figure to Obi Wan Kenobi in his last stance against Vader? It can be made the same way the 2002 Toy Fare Vader was made with Obi Wan’s saber sticking out of the plastic or something close to. Make the figure with his eyes closed.. Cloaked etc.?

H: But we did just that with #16 Vader in the TAC line this year! Or did you lose the Obi-Wan figure that came in the pack? Not the flattened cloak, but the full-size spirit figure that was invisible *and* immaterial. OK, we kid….but that's an interesting suggestion for a future tribute. Thanks for the suggestion.

YN: Any chance we get a two pack of the aliens that fueled Obi wan’s fighter at the end of Episode 3?

H: There is a chance that they will come out within the next couple of years, but will most likely not be a 1-pack due to costing. Stay tuned!

We have previously announced that there would be three waves of our 30th Anniversary basic figures in Spring. That has now been changed - there will be only two. The last wave (on shelf approx. early March) will be The Force Unleashed wave. Due to some last minute delays, the previous third wave has been picked up and moved to the new Fall basic figure line. Nothing will be bumped from the Fall line....these will just be added in. Fans should not worry as all figures will be coming to the shelf, including General Obi-Wan Kenobi, General Saesee Tiin, Clone Scuba trooper, and more. More details on this assortment will be released at Toy Fair. Similarly, due to production delays, we are pushing back the debut of the next wave of comic packs (including Anakin/Durge and Asaaj/Tol Skorr) until fall as well, but all announced packs *will* be coming out.

Also, previously we announced that the new Obi-Wan and Darth Vader/Anakin figures from our Wave 1 '08 30th Anniversary Wave (now shipping to retail) would not have new articulation. In fact, they do indeed have enhanced hip articulation (ball and socket) and are great upgrades over the original. Collectors should look to these for their increased poseability.

Ready your order finger as the Sideshow Collectibles Palpatine 1:1 bust is now up for preorder and should be in collectors hands sometime during the 2nd quarter of 2008. If Emperor Palpatine in all his dental decay is not what you seek - then maybe you would be happier with the 12" Palpatine set that show the big baddie before he had way too many sweets. The 360 is not just for playing COD4 or Halo 3. The 360 at Sideshow is all about showing off the collectibles and this week the Duel of Fates Diorama get the special treatment. In 2008, Star Wars: The Clone Wars expands the Star Wars universe with plenty of surprises. This week, Lucasfilm begins offering a glimpse at some of these surprises during the annual Toy Fair events around the world. As it unveiled many of its upcoming toys and collectibles, including those from the Clone Wars TV series, among the familiar characters like Obi-Wan, Anakin and Yoda is a mysterious new Padawan named Ahsoka Tano.

This young Togruta is eager to prove herself as a worthy Padawan to her bold Master, Anakin Skywalker. Able to wield a lightsaber and pilot a spacecraft with great talent, Ahsoka promises to become a worthy Jedi.

There is much more to learn about Ahsoka and the role she plays in the epic Clone Wars adventures and the Star Wars saga. Keep checking StarWars.com as more news comes to light about the series and this intriguing new Padawan.
