On August 15, Star Wars returns to theaters
as it's never been seen before, in the first-ever animated
adventure set in a galaxy far, far away: Star Wars: The Clone
Wars from Lucasfilm Animation. TV Guide magazine is celebrating
the excitement with four collectible covers and a multi-media
CD-ROM which is presented exclusively by Toys "R" Us.
The disc will be affixed to four collectible covers of
the August 11 special double issue on newsstands Thursday,
August 7. The covers will feature favorite Star Wars characters
as well as new additions to the galaxy: Anakin Skywalker
and his Padawan learner Ashoka Tano, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Asajj
Ventress, Yoda and Count Dooku, and R2-D2 and C-3PO.
The special edition of TV Guide commemorates not only
the first Star Wars animated theatrical release, but also
the fall premiere of the weekly Star Wars: The Clone Wars
animated television series on Cartoon Network.
The special CD-ROM created by TV Guide and Lucasfilm Ltd.
features never-before-seen material, including:

Spotlight #20: OOAK ARTIST DOLL SET BY CREES & COE
Today's auction comes in from Brad in NJ:
The auction I am sending in is for a trio of rare star
wars wax dolls. According to the auction they were made
in 1997 by Paul Crees and Peter Coe. Pretty cool looking,
but too expensive for my taste.
Thanks Brad, they do look cool. I wonder how the wax would
hold up in shipping if you live in a hot climate. Might be
something to talk to the seller about if drop down the $7500
for these!

Star
Wars Action News Update
Still out in San Diego, the Star Wars Action News team brings
you up to speed on everything San Diego. The new toys and
collectibles from Hasbro, Sideshow, eFX, Gentle Giant, Acme,
Museum Replicas, Diamond, and more! With every company using
Comic Con International 08 as an opportunity to make you
drool over the upcoming releases, we tell you what is and
isn't actually drool-worthy.
But colliding with ComicCon was, of course, Midnight Madness
across the globe as the new Clone Wars toys went on sale.
We have reports from the UK and the US describing their own
Midnight Madness experiences, as well as any Saturday Sadness
that may have occurred.
We also have an interview with Karen Traviss talking about
writing her new Clone Wars novelization, and she gives us
the scoop on new Star Wars books she will be writing in the
near future! Plus we have a special interview with the man
of your dreams...
All this and more on this week's super-packed edition of
Star Wars Action News!
Just because I’m not Britney Spears,
it doesn’t mean that I’m a recluse.” Sitting
in his headquarters at Skywalker Ranch, George Lucas is engaged
in a bout of myth-busting. Given the rarefied nature of a
Lucas interview, the creator of Star Wars is often cast as
something of a loner, a professional Han Solo, dismissing
the outside world while sitting astride his empire, Lucasfilm,
which is buried in the heart of Lucas Valley, in northern
California. (The locale, inciden-tally, boasted the name
long before the film-maker arrived.) “Honestly, everyone
feels you have to talk about yourself all the time,” he
says. “They say I’m introverted because I don’t
give many interviews. But I don’t give many interviews
because I don’t make many films.”
Lucas concedes that he can find interviews uncomfortable. “They’re
hard work,” he says, “but this is part of the
film-making process. It’s hard for you, I realise that,
but it’s hard for us, too.” Truth be told, much
of the mystery that surrounds him stems from the fact that
journalists often treat him with extreme deference. While
his film-making peers, from Spielberg to Scorsese, have all
attained iconic status, Lucas is set apart in the pantheon:
he created Star Wars and, for many, that elevates him to
a different plane. In consequence, interviewers rarely inquire
into his private life, his 1983 divorce from Marcia (his
wife of 14 years and a close professional collaborator) and
the fact that he went on to raise three children as a single
parent. Yet surely these events must have had a profound
effect on his work?
I was able to order some SDCC Exclusives
from hasbrotoyshop.com today. In-stock and shipping next
day.
Commander Gree Mugg: Item # 87926

It wouldn't be Comic Con without Star Wars.
With the in mind, LucasFilm Animation and Warner Bros. were
sure to get something up for Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Those attending Comic Con got watch an extended, four-minute
clip for Star Wars: The Clone Wars that showcases these 'epic
battles' that the featurettes have been telling us about.
If you couldn't make the even this year don't sweat, as the
footage is now available online.
Spike TV has just released four great new
promos for Star Wars – which they'll be airing throughout
the summer. The clips feature everyone's favorite characters
in everyday situations.
You may have seen "Darth Vader Plays Golf" or "Don't
Mess With The Ewoks" to promote the Star Wars saga on
Spike TV, but they created two more promos that many people
never got to see. Check out "Tusken Raiders At The Office" and "Don't
Make Fun Of Boba Fett"
One of the biggest criticisms leveled
at The Clone Wars Collection in our pre-release reviews is
that the transition to the CGI animation style inexplicably
meant sacrificing articulation and tougher plastic in favor
of statuesque figures made from softer materials. After the
high quality juggernaut that was The 30th Anniversary Collection,
this sudden shift was very disappointing and unwelcome. But
as the Yarna review showed, not all hope is lost because
The Legacy Collection appears to have eschewed the diminished
quality of The Clone Wars Collection in favor of continuing
the Anniversary trend.
Moving beyond the first wave, today’s review looks
at General Saesee Tiin from the second Legacy Collection
assortment—the “realistic” Clone Wars assortment.
Was Yarna a fluke in a new era of mediocrity, or is The Legacy
Collection going to keep living up to the standards set in
2007?

Review:
Yarna d’al’ Gargan (Legacy Collection)
It’s no secret that Hasbro gets
heavily scrutinized in these reviews. Despite the fact that
these are only toys, Hasbro gets held to a higher standard
because they have released many items that betray their true
potential, which makes it all the more irritating and disappointing
when they churn out figures that show a lack of imagination
and creativity. Even more irritating is that, after more
than a decade into the modern era, they still have not mastered
the concept of consistency, a shortcoming pointed out in
several reviews.
But there is one thing that Hasbro has become consistently
good at.
Listening to the wants of their customers.
Hasbro wasn’t always good at it, but the past several
years have seen the toy manufacturer releasing items that
aren’t exactly sure-fire commercial hits. Massive and
costly vehicles such as the AT-TE and a more accurately scaled
Millennium Falcon are excellent examples of Hasbro’s
willingness to take risks in order to satisfy consumer wants.
Of course, people want them, but the question remains if
they can afford them in these difficult financial times.
As for the figure line, Hasbro has pushed the boundaries
with releases like “Crispy” Anakin—not
exactly the kind of figure one expects to see in the kids’ toy
aisle of their local Wal-Mart.
Today’s review centers on another figure that many
never expected to see the light of day: Jabba’s six-breasted
dancer, Yarna d’al’ Gargan. While this will undoubtedly
be very popular with collectors regardless, is it a quality
figure or a haphazardly produced figure? Read on to find
out.

Review: Obi-Wan
Kenobi (Star Wars: The Clone Wars)
Consistency
has never really been Hasbro’s strong point—especially
between products in the same figure assortment. Typically,
the largest inconsistencies are found in articulation and
paint applications, and they aren’t always strong or deficient
together. For example, Commander Gree (version 2)
sets the standard for how a clonetrooper figure should
be articulated. However, his articulation is not
the template for other clones. A background character
can have one of the best factory paint decos, but a hero
figure in the same wave may look like the portrait was
smashed in a bar room brawl. There is little consistency
in quality.
The
Clone Wars Collection thus
far is no different. Over the past week, both the
best and worst of the assortment have been examined. Today’s
review treads the middle ground where Hasbro’s talents
shine through in some areas but others will leave collectors
scratching their hands in confusion, puzzled over why
particular choices were made.
While
it is certainly not the worst figure, the CGI Clone
Wars version of Obi-Wan Kenobi is not the figure many
expected. Read on to discover just what this means.

Adult
Swim Announces Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II
Adult Swim's Robot Chicken travels back to
a galaxy far, far away to create a second, all-new Star Wars-themed
special. Premiering November 16 at 11:30 p.m. (ET/PT), Robot
Chicken: Star Wars Episode II combines the satirical sensibilities
of Seth Green and Matthew Senreich's (Stoopid Monkey Productions)
Emmy-winning Robot Chicken with the unforgettable moments
and favorite characters of the Star Wars universe. The special,
to be directed by Green, is a follow-up to last year's Robot
Chicken: Star Wars, which was nominated for an Emmy last
week. Both specials and the Robot Chicken series are created
in conjunction with ShadowMachine Films' Alex Bulkley and
Corey Campononico.
"We're thrilled to get to make 'Episode II;' it doesn't
even seem real--getting to make Star Wars twice! We're so
excited and bursting with joy," says co-creator Seth
Green.
"With this second special, we knew we had to do something
a bit different, something more," says co-creator Matt
Senreich. "With that in mind, we decided to focus on
the bounty hunters a bit and explore their stories. It's
a geek-fest for us all."
Robot Chicken: Star wars Episode II gives Star Wars an
entirely different attitude as it transforms the galaxy into
the stop-motion animated world that is the hallmark of Robot
Chicken. The special will feature original Star Wars lead
actress Carrie Fisher reprising her role as Princess Leia
and Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian. From the first
special, Green and Senreich have secured Ahmed Best to return
as Jar Jar Binks, Seth MacFarlane as Emperor Palpatine, Breckin
Meyer as Admiral Ackbar and Boba Fett, Conan O'Brien as Zuckuss
and Donald Faison. Green won this year's Annie Award for
directing the first special and will voice numerous characters,
including Ponda Baba in Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode
II. Andy Richter also joins the voice talent cast.

You may have already noticed that the price for Hasbro prices
has increased where you shop, both on-line and in store, below
is a good read from Bloomberg.com about
it:
July 21 (Bloomberg) -- Hasbro Inc., the maker of Monopoly
and Transformers, fell 1.7 percent in New York trading after
the toymaker said it will raise prices for a second time
this year to counter higher costs to make action figures.
Second-quarter profit jumped almost eightfold following
costs a year earlier to end part of a contract with ``Star
Wars'' director George Lucas, Hasbro said today. The world's
second-largest toymaker said a ``mid-single-digit'' price
increase on a percentage basis will go into effect Sept.
1.
Sales exceeded analysts' estimates as consumers bought
toys tied to May's ``Indiana Jones'' movie and next month's
animated ``Star Wars'' film. Both Hasbro and Mattel Inc.,
which makes Batman products, may need a superhero-driven
surge at the box office and price increases to help combat
higher plastic and shipping costs in the midst of a consumer-spending
slowdown.
``Some investors are a little spooked by the acknowledgement
that cost pressures are affecting them,'' Chris White, an
analyst at Wedbush Morgan Securities in Los Angeles, said
in a telephone interview. ``It may get worse before it gets
better.'' He recommends holding the shares and doesn't own
any.
Hasbro, which rose 49 percent this year before today, dropped
64 cents to $37.35 at 4:01 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange
composite trading.
Robot Chicken: Star Wars comes out today
on DVD! Various Stores will have it as low as $8.99 for a limited
time so be sure to head out and pick this up today. Some of
the bonus features will include On-Air Bumps, Trailers, Behind-the-Scenes
Featurette, Deleted Scenes, Episode Commentary and more!
And if you missed it the first time around, click
here to read the Yodasnews.com Interview with Seth Green
and Matt Senreich, executive producers of the "Robot
Chicken: Star Wars" where they took the time out of
their busy schedules to talk with us about creating this
special before it aired, how they got hooked up with George
to do the special and where Seth's soul is currently residing...
Chances are if you attended Celebration Japan, you got
to climb onto the full-size dewback created by Japanese Garrison
member Goro Inoue and his dedicated crew which include Kayo
Saeki, Ruriko Tsutsumi, Yayoi Negishi, Otoe Takahashi, Jun
Agata, Daisuke Togami, Takatoshi Makiuchi, Masaaki Fukada,
Kakuyuki Yamazaki, Hiroshi Shounai, Keisuke Aiso, and Masaru
Sato; with special thanks to Mish’al Samman, Takefumi
Tenshima, Toshio Fujisawa, Toshiki and Kaori Komiya, Art
Andrews, Kazuhisa Kawahara, Takeshi Ogawa, Mary Frankin,
Steve Sansweet, the Dented Helmet, the 501st Legion and Lucasfilm
Ltd.
Walking past the dewback, I spied everyone from little
kids and their parents, to fans dressed as Princess Leia
and Obi-Wan Kenobi, among others. The dewback always had
a long of people eager to get the photo op of a lifetime.

Review:
Captain Rex (Star Wars: The Clone Wars)
Soldiers have always been a major component of the Star
Wars universe. To many, they are even popular than the Jedi
or Sith. Without them, the wars would have been very short
and far less epic or interesting. The arrival of the Prequel
Trilogy greatly expanded the armored ranks of the universe’s
various factions, bombarding the public with a diverse array
of biological and mechanical soldiers. For collectors of
Hasbro’s 3.75 scale brand, the Prequels heralded a
golden age for army builders. Whereas figures of Force-users
and politicians typically warm store pegs, the “army
builder” clone figures are consistently hot items with
only the most basic soldiers joining the peg-warming crowd.
On July 26th, the Clone Wars Collection is going to flood
stores with an event previously reserved for the three cinematic
entries of the Prequel Trilogy. As this site’s initial
two reviews have demonstrated, the line is going to get off
to a shaky start with two major characters falling below
expectations. While not yet reviewed on this site, Anakin
Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi have a good share of flaws as
well. For example, neither have any articulation below the
hips, and Anakin’s stability is extremely poor. Yes,
Artoo is a bright spot in this first assortment, but how
many people are going to be interested in another variation
of the iconic droid?
With the Jedi and Grievous coming up short, the success
of the initial wave is now on the shoulders of the military
figures, but will they deliver?
Today, Yodasnews proudly presents the fourth in our pre-release
Clone Wars Collection reviews: Clone Commander 7567 aka Captain “Rex”.

When LucasArts releases "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed" on
Sept. 16, the video game will serve as George Lucas' official
medium between 2005's "Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge
of the Sith" and 1977's "Star Wars: Episode IV — A
New Hope."
In the game, players become Darth Vader's secret apprentice
and use The Force to hunt the remaining Jedi.
"Force Unleashed" allows gamers to use supercharged
Force powers to bust through objects, wield a lightsaber,
blast lighting bolts and fling around foes.
The game will also change the way fans view "Episode
IV" through "Episode VI — Return of the Jedi," LucasArts
project lead Haden Blackman told The Associated Press at
the E3 Business and Media Summit.

In 1978, Star Wars opened in Japan a year after it had
made its debut Stateside, continuing its journey around the
globe to become a worldwide phenomenon. That movie introduced
Mark Hamill to Japan, but Japan had already been introduced
to Hamill, as he explained to huge crowd assembled at the
digital stage at Celebration Japan today.
“I went to high school in Yokosuka,” said Hamill. ”My
father was in the Navy, so we moved around every few years.
But we never stayed longer than about three years in any
place. And we were living in Virginia, and he was working
in Washington D.C. and he got transferred to Yokosuka. Where
is Yokosuka? Well, it’s in Japan. Japan? Do they have
the Beatles in Japan? That was one of my first questions.”
You may have already noticed that we have a new logo and
website! This past week on July 15th, we launched the new Andrew's
Toyz website v.7.0. The website sports a new look and
interface with new features. One of the first things you
will notice is the new design which is very user-friendly.
One of our favorite new additions to navigation is the quick
links bar at the top of our policy and shipping pages. Product
detail pages have an entire new look as well.
There is a great new feature called SMS Account Update,
which will send text messages to your phone, updating you
on the status of your orders and account. This is a great
way to know when your order is shipping and if you need to
update your payment information. Click here for more details!
I am very excited about the launch of our new logo and website,
and would like to offer all of you $10 off your next purchase
at Andrew's Toyz. During checkout, please enter coupon code
NEWSITE and you will receive $10 off your purchase of $75
or more of in stock merchandise. This offer is only valid
towards new in stock purchases. Pre-Order items are excluded
from this offer. This offer will expire on July 28, 2008.
It's official. Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight (Warner
Bros), easily the most buzzed-about movie of 2008, has laid
to waste the midnight opening record of Star Wars: Episode
III - Revenge of the Sith (Fox) with a staggering $18.4M
overnight.
Star Wars Celebration Japan has begun! It’s Saturday
morning in Japan right now, and at the Makuhari Messe convention
center, crowds gathered early despite the oppressively humid
heat, filling the hall outside the doors before Steve Sansweet,
Head of Fan Relations, arrived in a dapper Rebel-sigil-printed
robe to begin the ceremonies.
You can now register at www.ebayliveauctions.com for both
absentee bidding and live internet bidding up to or during
the live auction event for all Premier
Collectible Auctions.
If you are unable to attend the live auction, you can
still follow the action live for up-to-the second bidding
and final auction prices.

Review:
R2-D2 (Star Wars: The Clone Wars)
The Clone Wars marked the beginning of an era eclipsed by
darkness and rebellious turmoil. Previously enjoying an age
of peace and progress, the Republic and Jedi Order both became
too complacent and self-assured of their advanced sense of
enlightenment. As our own history has shown us time and again,
that is usually the point where mistakes are made. ones that
can spiral into cataclysm if left unchecked.
Interestingly enough, the inaugural wave of The Clone Wars
Collection seems to mirror that rise and fall for Hasbro.
After enjoying a renaissance of sorts with the 30th Anniversary
Collection, the toy goliath appears to have become careless
with the quality of their Star Wars brand. The first two
reviews for this line (Yoda and General Grievous) demonstrated
a lack of foresight in the design process and a drop in production
quality. Despite this being its inception, the Clone Wars
line is already teetering on the edge between success and
failure.
Not all of the initial figures are disappointments though.
There are some bright stars in the void, figures that could
herald a saving grace for this collection if future waves
contain items of their caliber.
Today’s review deals with one of those stars: R2-D2.

Our
SDCC Preview Page is Up!

coverage of San
Diego Comic Con with images and news from preview night.
We have started to get our pages ready for your viewing pleasure
and are ready to kick them off today. For now, you can check
out images of ALL the exclusives that will help empty your
pockets this year from Star Wars and all other lines (well
over 100 this year and we still have more to add).
A big thanks to our SDCC team who will be covering

site and it looks fantastic!

and be sure to check back as the pages will start to fill up
with great images and stories as the con kicks off next week!
OK, well, we've been keeping a little quiet about this
up until now, but the time seems right. Here's the deal:
Everyone who goes to the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con and
purchases a character key (any property) will receive a
ticket. You'll get one ticket for every key you buy. And,
yes, if you pre-ordered a Yoda and/or Kenobi, you will
get your tickets when you pick up your keys (non-attendees
will not be eligible for the contest...sorry, but there
has to be some privilege/benefit involved with actually
attending the convention!). At the end of the convention,
we will draw a ticket and post that winning number on our
website and on our blog at forums, etc. The person with
that ticket will then send it to us at Acme for verification
and to claim the prize...it's one worth playing for...
The winner will receive an entire set of the original
Clone Wars character keys. We have pulled from different
sources and have gathered all 16 of them, so the numbers
won't match, a few keys will be proofs (one an unnumbered
proof), but they are all authentic keys!
Good luck to everyone!

BRINGING
COMICS BACK TO COMIC-CON!
As San Diego Comic-Con International (July 23rd- 27th, 2008)
grows each year, your favorite comic book creators can be
harder and harder to find. In an effort to reach out to their
fans, several groups of top comics artists and writers, including
fan favorite Tommy Lee Edwards and Eisner Award winners Jill
Thompson and Darwyn Cooke, have all dug into their own pockets
for premium booth space in prime locations this year, right
in the heart of the main exhibit hall.
For the fourth year in a row, theBLVD studio (booth #2707,
across from Dark Horse Comics) will set up their own shop
to meet fans on the main show floor. Tommy Lee Edwards (1985,
BULLET POINTS), along with Sean Chen (SALVATION RUN, IRON
MAN), Trevor Goring (WATERLOO SUNSET, WHAT IF? FALLEN SON),
John Paul Leon (WINTERMEN, EARTH X), and Bernard Chang (WONDER
WOMAN, THE GAME), will be signing autographs and providing
portfolio critiques for aspiring artists, as well as selling
original comic book art pages, new art prints, commissioned
sketches, and limited copies of their acclaimed sketchbooks
(including volume 3.0, featuring artwork by legendary artist
Walter Simonson).
For the first time, the group of Jill Thompson (SANDMAN,
SCARY GODMOTHER), Brian Wood (DMZ, NORTHLANDERS), and Cliff
Chiang (GREEN ARROW & BLACK CANARY, DOCTOR 13) will have
their own booth (booth #1322, next to First Second Books).
Nestled between the popular publisher and retailer pavilions,
their booth provides exceptional convenience and the unique
opportunity for attendees to shop at nearby booksellers and
have those items signed by the creators. Jill, Brian, and
Cliff will also have graphic novels (including rare and out-of-print
editions), art prints, original comic art, paintings, framed
canvas pieces, tattoo flash and a number of commissioned
sketches for sale at their booth. Check out their wares,
chit chat and see what's new!
Here is a quick update

floating play area complete with a water-firing blaster
and two built-in slides. There are also inflatable ride-on
vehicles, deluxe ride-ons with water guns, inflatable battle
orbs, and even an inflatable R2-D2 floating drink station.

TIE Fighter Advanced! Kites are 2' to 3' long each!
This 1:6 scale vnyl figure of everyone's favorite Ewok

Starwars.Hasbro.com
Face Lift and Downloads!
As promised last week, yesterday Hasbro has added TWO great
downloadable documents that will orient folks to what will
be available on 7/26 and select highlights for waves and
products through October.
The "Hasbro Clone Wars Handbook" details almost everything
that will be available over the course of the Fall for Clone
Wars, with images of all basic figures, vehicles, exclusives,
and more. It will also be handed out in printed form at our
booth at Comic Con for fans in attendance to commemorate
the 7/26 launch.
As the Handbook focuses on Clone Wars, and does not have
actual anticipated on-shelf date breakdowns of figures by
wave, we have crafted a second companion spreadsheet titled
the "Hasbro Star Wars Fall 2008 Release Guide." This Excel
spreadsheet details Clone War and Legacy Collection information,
along with availability dates and wave breakdowns, so all
collectors will know what to focus on when.
Review:
General Grievous (Star Wars: The Clone Wars)
Yodasnews’ advance coverage of the initial Clone Wars
action figure line continues with the major villain of the
first wave: General Grievous.
Sorely under-used and suffering a ridiculous diminishment
of his ferocity in Revenge of the Sith, his previous action
figure incarnations have endured similar minimizations as
well with a grossly under-scaled height relative to other
figures and weak stability and articulation. Fortunately,
in terms of theatrical appearances, it looks as though Grievous
will once again be portrayed as a methodical and relentless
killer in Clone Wars. It would be almost symmetrical if the
first good action figure version of the General should come
from the Clone Wars figure line. It sure seems promising
since this is also the first accurately scaled version and
the first with interchangeable arms. And he doesn’t
have an action feature either!!
With all of these deviations from past attempts at this
character, is this latest version a significant improvement
or another missed opportunity? Read on and discover for yourself.

Clone
Wars Target Scores!
Forum member Samsin from Houston, TX reports in with his latest
score:
I picked these up this evening using the DCPI numbers.
The trick was going to customer service first and having
them check availability. Of course they were in the stock
room and the lady had no problem going to the back and checking
for me and coming out about 5 minutes with both loaded on
a cart. After scanning to see if they could be sold, they
both rang up with no problem and I was on my way. They did
have a few other things but I did not want to press my luck.
Good luck and happy hunting!
Thanks Samsin!

Star
Wars Action News Update
This week's episode of Star Wars Action News is like Herman
Melville's classic Moby Dick. Only instead of Ahab it's Arnie.
And instead of being really really long it's only about an
hour. And instead of a great white whale it's an even bigger
treasure: white carded figures that have slipped out before
release date. Marjorie and Arnie take you on a tour of stores
trying to find employees who blithely disregard street dates
in the name of efficiency. And we play voicemails from at
least one listener who DID capture his great white toy. Where
did he get it, and how did he get out without the dreaded
sign of "Sale Not Allowed"? Listen to find out!
Also this week, we have a hands-on review of the very high-end
collectible Yoshitoku Vader, initially offered up for order
at Celebration Japan. This is an item few will own, but listen
to our podcast to find out what makes this such an incredible
piece.
With Scott from Tulsa and Nathan from the EU, its another
great episode of Star Wars Action News as we ramp up for
ComicCon!
Yodasnews regular Sam from Houston, TX (AKA Samsin) reports
in:
Here are a few pictures from the Clone Wars NASA Exhibit.
It was small but nice. It kicked off July 4th and will run
all summer long!

Knight movies. We also have the Batman and Joker Statues
scheduled to be available this week. Stop by Urban
Collector and check out our great selection. Featured
Pre-Orders
After a lackluster first half of 2008 with slow and uneven
distribution and only a small handful of figure waves, Hasbro’s
Star Wars brand is poised to hit its stride with an entrance
expected to rival any of the previous three films’ Midnight
Madness events. On July 26th, the floodgates will open on
two very distinct figure lines: The Legacy Collection and
The Clone Wars. As icing on the cake, both the massive new
Millennium Falcon (BMF) and the equally massive and impressive
AT-TE will make their grand simultaneous debuts on store
shelves.
As a special treat for our loyal readers, we present the
first review of the Clone Wars action figure line—nearly
two full weeks ahead of street date. After all, the Rebels
weren’t the only ones with covert Bothan spies aiding
them. July 26th is gearing up to be a very expensive night
for many Star Wars collectors, so it would be helpful to
know what kind of product to expect—especially if a
good chunk of your budget is going toward the AT-TE, the
BMF, or both.
And now Yodasnews is proud to present an in-depth review
of our namesake, Jedi Master Yoda.

Clone Wars Finds!
From Yodasnews.com reader Eclusion:
Eclusion here from days past. I just got back from a round
the city toy run and discovered that the Reno Target had
both Clone Wars figures and Legacy Collection figures. I
did not buy them all but I saw everything from those waves.
Not every figure came with a "1st Day of Issue" sticker
as you can see. My favorite thing about the Legacy Collection
is the droid factory parts. My favorite thing about the Clone
Wars is not having to go stand in line at Toys R Us next
week. Good Hunting!

Today's auction comes in from Matthew George in PA:
I found this auction tonight for a Lifesize Darth Vader
Statue from Michael Burnett Studios. This had a LE of only
500 and don't come up that much on ebay as most collectors
hold on to them, and it's over 7 feet tall! Check it out!
Thanks Matthew, this would look great in any collection

I just thought I'd pass on to you all a bit of a SWNZ milestone...SWNZ's
is celebrating its fifth birthday - for five years we've
been delivering New Zealand Star Wars news to Kiwis, and
have been celebrating the involvement of NZers and NZ -exclusive
collectibles in the wider Star Wars universe.
Today's SWNZ news also includes the scoop on the upcoming
Hasbro Clone Wars toy launch events across New Zealand -
it's going to continue to be an interesting year for Star
Wars fans!
With the "Star Wars" franchise coming to the
small screen this fall, television critics got a sneak peek
Friday morning at an entire episode of "Star Wars: The
Clone Wars," though they were asked not to reveal too
many details.
The animated episode will air on Cartoon Network and TNT
at an undetermined date this fall, along with 21 others in
a series that further broadens the reach of the formidable
and lucrative "Star Wars" story.
The television series will come out after the Aug. 15 premiere
of an animated movie of the same name. Both will fill in
gaps between "Episode II: Attack of the Clones" and "Episode
III: Revenge of the Sith," with stories of Anakin, Padme
Amidala, Count Dooku and other second-trilogy characters.
The episode screened Friday was built around Jedi master
Yoda and introduced a new villain, the gothic Ventress, an
apprentice of Count Dooku. The series' supervising director,
David Filoni, described her as "a bit sensuous" and "serpent-like."
Asked whether this series would appeal to children who
haven't grown up watching the "Star Wars" films,
Filoni replied: "Every time I go to Toys R Us, I see
kids picking up light sabers and imagining they're in a galaxy
far, far away. I hope those fans will watch and enjoy this.
And maybe listen to Yoda."
Okay, this isn't a game as such, but it's still one of
the coolest iPhone apps to make it to the App Store for launch.
It's called PhoneSaber, and it does one simple thing - turns
your iPhone into a Star Wars lightsaber.
By which I mean it displays a glowing lightsaber on-screen,
and as you swing your iPhone around, it emits proper lightsabery
noises, before letting you put it away. Oh, and you can change
the colour to suit your preferences. A small detail, but
crucial.
PhoneSaber is a free download, so there's really no excuse
not to stick it on your iPhone as soon as the 2.0 firmware
comes out later on. Geektastic.
Fellow Star Wars Fans, The battle to save Fanboys
is over! AND WE WON!
The Weinstein Company has decided to listen to the outcry
from Star Wars fans around the globe! They have restored
the original plotline and have given the movie back to the
Star Wars fans who made it!
YN: July 26th is coming up fast. Is there a check list
of items that will be available on July 26th that can help
collectors plan ahead and prioritize?
H: Yes! We will be making available on 7/16 (next Wednesday)
at starwars.hasbro.com TWO great downloadable documents
that will orient folks to what will be available on 7/26
and select highlights for waves and products through October.
1. The "Hasbro Clone Wars Handbook" details almost everything
that will be available over the course of the Fall for
Clone Wars, with images of all basic figures, vehicles,
exclusives, and more. It will also be handed out in printed
form at our booth at Comic Con for fans in attendance to
commemorate the 7/26 launch. 2. As the Handbook focuses
on Clone Wars, and does not have actual anticipated on-shelf
date breakdowns of figures by wave, we have crafted a second
companion spreadsheet titled the "Hasbro Star Wars Fall
2008 Release Guide." This Excel spreadsheet details Clone
War and Legacy Collection information, along with availability
dates and wave breakdowns, so all collectors will know
what to focus on when. Please spread the word that these
will be available 7/16 for download at starwars.hasbro.com.
Thanks!
YN: Images have popped up online of a Wal-Mart Exclusive
Clone WarsGunship, can you provide any more info on this?
Is this a re-paint or a new mold?
H: There will be a redeco of the existing Republic Gunship,
featuring new Twi'Lek nose art debuted in the Clone Wars.
YN: Some readers are curious why you suddenly decided
to make and release two massive and expensive vehicles
back-to-back after years of stating that high-ticket vehicles
were not profitable enough to pursue.
H: We think the time is right for both of these items,
and are convinced that they will find separate markets.
The Millennium Falcon has been designed to appeal to fans
of all ages, especially older fans, while the AT-TE is
set to delight the kids who will experience Star Wars for
the first time with the Clone Wars. We think that both
of these superb vehicles will find their way into most
fans' collections somehow, even if that means one or the
other purchase needs to be deferred. They should both be
available over the course of the Fall, in any case.

Review:
eFX Episode IV Stormtrooper Helmet
With hundreds of collectibles companies operating in the
worldwide market today, it should come as little surprise
that the end of Master Replicas’ Star Wars prop replica
license would not leave a permanent void in that particular
niche. eFX Collectibles, the newest kid on the block, stepped
forward to claim that license, armed with a bold new agenda
for the future of Star Wars prop replicas. Much to their
credit, their first order of business was to tie up loose
ends from the Master Replicas era. Because their production
end date was fast approaching, MR had to prematurely cut
production, resulting in cancelled orders. Therefore, those
short-changed collectors had first crack at purchasing the
eFX version.
Now without further ado, today’s review will examine
an Artist Proof of the eFX Episode IV Stormtrooper helmet.

Clone
Wars to Debut at the Egyptian Theatre!
LOS ANGELES (AP) — George Lucas is revisiting familiar
space in the heart of Hollywood to unveil his new "Star
Wars" adventure.
The animated tale "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" will
have its world premiere at the Egyptian Theatre along Hollywood
Boulevard on Aug. 10, five days before it opens in theaters.
Lucasfilm announced the premiere Wednesday.
Proceeds from the premiere will benefit the American Cinematheque,
a film organization based at the Egyptian, which opened in
1922. The Egyptian was one of two Los Angeles theaters where
the first "Star Wars" sequel, "The Empire
Strikes Back," played during its extended run in 1980.
Tickets for the 4 p.m. premiere will be on sale exclusively
to American Cinematheque until July 23 and will then be available
to the general public.
"Few cinemas have had the opportunity to host a premiere
of a `Star Wars' movie, and we are tremendously excited that
the historic Egyptian will soon be one of them," said
Barbara Smith, director of the American Cinematheque.
"The Clone Wars" will be followed by an animated
TV series of the same name debuting this fall on the Cartoon
Network and TNT.
The movie and TV show are set between the action of the
second and third chapters of Lucas' prequel trilogy, "Attack
of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith."
The film centers on a galactic civil war, with Jedi knight
Anakin Skywalker — the future villain Darth Vader — embarking
on a mission that pits him and his apprentice against crime
boss Jabba the Hutt.
The voice cast includes some veteran "Star Wars" performers,
including Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu, Christopher Lee
as Count Dooku and Anthony Daniels as C-3PO.
Among other key voice cast members are Matt Lander as Anakin,
Ashley Eckstein as his apprentice Ahsoka Tano and James Arnold
Taylor as Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Lucas served as executive producer on "The Clone Wars" movie,
which was directed by Dave Filoni.

Star Tours has been a major longtime component of the Magic Kingdom’s
affiliation with Star Wars, so it was only a matter of time before
Indiana Jones was brought into the mix. However, rather than creating
a whole new action figure line like Star Tours, Disney chose to commemorate
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull by releasing a PVC figurine of Mickey
Mouse dressed in the costume of Indiana Jones. While a quick first
glance may suggest nothing more than a simple trinket meant to cash
in on the timely popularity of the Indy franchise, there are several
surprises lurking inside the blister card.
Tuesday July 8th marks a new era for Star Wars collectibles as 500
Star Wars fans will be able to purchase the first product from eFX
Collectibles-the retouched version of Master Replicas' Stormtrooper
Helmet. The mold is the same, the grill is a little cleaned up, and
the base is totally different. Star Wars Action News has a hands on
review of this product so you can make your final decision to whip
out that credit card.
Plus have you ever wished to have a vintage mint-on-card collection?
If you've ever looked on eBay or at your local convention for vintage
carded figures every so often you are faced with the question-is that
a fake? Our vintage expert Kevin takes a look at professionally recarded
vintage figures to give you the lowdown on this niche, sometimes mistakenly
bought, collectible.

Review:
Imperial Jumptrooper (The Force Unleashed)
Originally slated for release in 2007, the Imperial Jumptrooper
is one of the two army builder figures from the wave based
on the forthcoming next-generation console game Star Wars:
The Force Unleashed. Taking its cue from previous Expanded
Universe material, the Jumptrooper is one of the many new
challenges awaiting gamers in September.
As such, information is hard to find on this breed of soldier
as is visual source material, making any in-depth comparisons
impossible for the time being. Therefore, as it has been
done in some other reviews, the figure will be judged primarily
on its own aesthetic and functional merits.
Without further ado, here is the Yodasnews review of the
Imperial Jumptrooper.
"Hello Yodasnews, this auction is actually by one
of your sponsors and it's for a pretty rare item, first
I have seen of it so I thought it would be great to send
it. It's for a Vintage Rocket Fett Proto, here is the link"
Thanks Stephanie, this would be a holy grail in any collection,
wish we could afford it!

Baltimore has a shot of snagging a "Star
Wars" fan convention that would rank among the city's
largest gatherings, drawing as many as 35,000.
Lucasfilm Ltd., creator of the "Star Wars" series,
is eyeing Baltimore for a four-day convention to be held either
spring 2009 or spring 2010. Winning the convention would boost
Baltimore's tourism business because of its size and media
attention surrounding "Star Wars," one of the biggest
pop culture phenomenons, local tourism experts said.
"It would be a great coup for Baltimore," said Melissa "Missy" Geppi-Bowersox,
executive vice president of Geppi's Entertainment Museum. The
Camden Yards pop culture museum houses many "Star Wars" collectibles
and is expected to draw attendees from the convention. "We're
talking about generations upon generations who loved the movies," Geppi-Bowersox
said.
Baltimore is competing with Minneapolis, Chicago, Indianapolis
and Orlando, Fla., for the fan gathering to be known as Celebration
V, said Steve Sansweet, director of content management and
head of fan relations for Lucasfilm.
As with any wedding there's cake, hugs, and
even a getaway car. But when you're exchanging vows on the "darkside",
a little extra planning is more than necessary. Groom Matt Gilbert
says, "We were discussing having a
wedding at the convention, thinking it would be cheap, and
we were mistaken by that."
So how did Matt and Jessica Gilbert come to hold their
wedding at the Play On Con in full Sith fashion? "We were driving
in the car and he was talking to his brother, and he mentioned
something about the convention, and
I said something about, yeah, if you can get the emperor to
marry us I'll do it," says Jessica.
Matt Gilbert's brother Dan worked to organize Play On Con
as well as his brother's wedding and even played a vital roll
as Emperor Palpatine. "By the force that flows through
everything, I bind you to one another... until death and beyond.
Do you turn back?"
"Never. We do not."
While the ceremony meant something special for those involved,
those in the audience got a thrill out of the action. "It's
not like we're professionals here. We're just having a good
time, but i think you can expect some Jedi to die," says
Matt Gilbert. "We will not allow this to happen!
"You're too late Jedi!" (Vader)

Limited
to 1,138 Copies, this Elaborate Six-Volume Set Includes Bookplate
Signed by Star Wars Creator George Lucas, Who Also Selected
All 1,416 FRAMES
From the first view of the Death Star to an underwater city,
from a planet of molten lava to a dizzying asteroid field,
the six films of George Lucas's Star Wars Saga have been
filled with astonishing, unforgettable images.
In January 2009, Insight Editions, a division of the Palace
Publishing Group, will pay tribute to the extraordinary
visions seen in the epic, intergalactic adventure with
Star Wars: Frames
-- an unprecedented, exquisite collection of defining moments
from the revolutionary film series as seen through the
eyes of its creator.
George Lucas personally selected each of the 1,416 shots
in Star Wars: Frames, which will showcase these indelible
cinematic
moments in six hardcover, leather-bound volumes, each 11 inches
by 22 inches and printed in exceptional large format preserving
the widescreen aspect ratio and full resolution of the original
film frames. Star Wars: Frames will be strictly limited to
1,138 copies (in tribute to Lucas's first feature-length film,
THX 1138) and will be encased in a wood-inlaid box (24" long
x 13" high x 15" wide) adorned by two embossed medallions
(6.75" round) -- representing Jedi Master Yoda and Dark
Lord of the Sith Darth Vader. The box will contain two chambers
that correspond to the first and second Star Wars trilogies,
which will house the six volumes. Each of these numbered limited
editions will also contain a portfolio case with a bookplate
signed by George Lucas.
Also worth a mention, according to our friends

Hasbro
MILLENNIUM FALCON Press Release!
HASBRO LAUNCHES A NEW MILLENNIUM FALCON™ FOR THE FIRST
TIME IN 30 YEARS:
Iconic STAR WARS™ Starship Toy Undergoes Major Overhaul
Pawtucket, Rhode Island, July 1, 2008 -- Updating the fan-favorite
MILLENNIUM FALCON for the first time since its introduction
in 1979, Hasbro is launching the largest MILLENNIUM FALCON
toy to ever travel the galaxy. The new STAR WARS LEGACY COLLECTION
MILLENNIUM FALCON includes electronic lights and sounds,
and is approximately 30% percent larger than the original
version of the toy.
Over the last 30 years, ever since it was introduced
on the screen in 1977 and to toy enthusiasts two years
later,
Han Solo’s signature starship, the MILLENNIUM FALCON,
has become one of the most recognizable “characters” in
movie history and one of Hasbro’s most popular STAR
WARS toys. Last year, the toy’s steel production mold – which
was used to create hundreds of thousands of MILLENNIUM FALCON
toys – suffered a crack that rendered the tool damaged
beyond repair.
When creating a new mold, Hasbro used the opportunity
to improve its toy’s play value by increasing the ship’s
size (which now accommodates 18 action figures, sold separately)
and adding authentic lights and sounds, making this the most
exciting Corellian freighter in the galaxy.
“We’ve always wanted to make a bigger MILLENNIUM
FALCON. When we literally “broke the mold” we
seized the opportunity to fulfill ours wishes as well as
the fans. Legions of young STAR WARS fans have grown up playing
with the original MILLENNIUM FALCON toy,” said Derryl
D. DePriest, director of marketing for STAR WARS at Hasbro. “In
designing the new MILLENNIUM FALCON for a new generation
of fans, Hasbro’s design team succeeded in adding new
features that will both excite kids and thrill our devoted
collectors.”
The new STAR WARS LEGACY COLLECTION MILLENNIUM FALCON will
soar onto retail shelves on July 26 with an appropriate retail
price of $149.99. Fans attending San Diego Comic-Con (7/23-7/28)
will have a chance to see it first hand a few days before
the toy arrives in stores.
The rumors (and guesses) have been flying
around about Mimoco launching their 3rd series of Star Wars
Mimobots,
and we’re excited to have the exclusive to show you the
first of this new series! So, here is Darth Sidious! How crazy
are his hands?
It’s nearly the 4th of July, and that’s reason
enough to celebrate at Sideshow! Collectors can take
advantage of a $15.00 coupon code on the In Stock Military-themed
items from now through July
4th, 2008! Some of the qualifying products include Star
Wars, R. Lee Ermey, The Dead and proprietary military figures!!
To take advantage of this offer, you must use the coupon
code 'FOURTH2008' during the checkout process.

D's Clone Wars Toys Update!
There have been rumors running for months
that McDonalds will be doing the fast food promotion for
the
new
Clone Wars
Movie this summer and some sites have
even confirmed a list of products. Today, a New York Times article
confirms it, click
here to read the story, highlights are below.
One downside
for collectors is that Burger King would allow for a toy purchase
without the meal. McDonalds will not be selling them without
the purchase of a Kid's Meal so if collectors want to get the
toys, they either need to turn to ebay or start eating Kid's
Meals for 4 weeks this summer!.
*McDonald’s is getting involved, with its
first ever Happy Meal promotion for a “Star Wars” movie.
*Neither Pepsi, Burger King nor Kellogg’s
have any connection to the new movie, whereas all had made
major investments in the previous three movies in the form
of product tie-ins and promotions.
*For the first time in the history of the “Star
Wars” franchise, McDonald’s is coming along for
the ride. Starting Aug. 15, the fast food chain will be offering
Clone Wars Happy Meals. Each will come with a specially designed
box and one of 18 exclusive toys. Collectors will have to be
diligent however, as the promotion lasts only four weeks, and
the toys will be available only with purchase of a Happy Meal.
We are happy to announce that after 2 weeks
off on holidays Mousedroid.com has returned to celebrate
our 5th Birthday of covering Star Wars downunder. The All
Australian Star Wars News and Forums site has also had a
major makeover with a very Clone Wars colour theme and style
being rolled out across the site.
Finally, check back soon for more information on the Hasbro
Australia and Mousedroid.com Captain Rex promotion. Stay
tuned as we announce more birthday celebration events but
for now, join Captain Rex and the gang on the fresh face
of Star Wars News in Australia!
Your first look at the Uno can be confusing. With
Ben J. Poss Gulak, its 19-year-old inventor, crouched on it
like a jockey, you might think "sportbike." But
where are the wheels?
The Uno's custom hoops aren't front and
rear like a motorcycle's, but side by side and inches apart
under the rider, rising and
falling independently over the road as he leans the gyroscope-stabilized
machine through effortless turns.
This is not your father's
Segway. If Dean Kamen's sophisticated personal transporter
seems like some benign module from a George
Jetson cartoon, Gulak's prototype
looks aggressive, maybe a little dangerous, like a "Star
Wars" speeder or something out of "Blade Runner."

Collections Update: Collection Videos!
Yesterday we kicked off a new feature asking for collection
videos and we have had a great response so far. Today we
feature Sam, a member of the DC Star Wars Collector's Club
(DCSWCC). This was an episode of "Star Wars Cribs",
filmed and edited by StarWarsDaddy, highlighting her personal
collection of Star Wars goodies (or, at least, what is out
of the closet!)
Girls rule on this week's episode of Star Wars Action News!
In Star Wars collecting women's voices are not often heard
but this week sistas are doin' it for themselves in this
all-female episode of Star Wars Action News. Marjorie and
Andrea chat about the new Star Wars build-a-droid packs at
Wal Mart, as well as some of their favorite collectibles,
and Marjorie also talks to some women Star Wars fans and
collectors about what they collect, why they collect, and
what makes a Star Wars chick just so dang cool.
A Lego employee helps to break a record for
the largest assembly of Lego Star Wars figures. A total of
35,310 stormtroopers from the new Star Wars: The Clone Wars
movie were used to set the record, which forms part of Lego’s
50th anniversary celebrations. All proceeds from the attempt
went to the National Autistic Society.
